Either you hate the game or you don't

3GenGames4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

More like you're either tired of the rehashes or are still a sheep. :)

GrieverSoul4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

People are more worried about bashing Call of Duty than all the other AAA titles releasing in the same month.

Its simple has this:
CoD needs improvments? Yes it does!
Will Activision make them?! No! They probably wont.
Will the game be any good nonetheless? It probably will! The winning formula is still there, it all depends on how much of it you had.

Hating CoD is a little bit stupid if you ask me. Fifa, Pes, Assassins Creed, Need for Speed, and many others titles that flow with the year release dont get as much hate as CoD. Why now?

Im looking foward to MW3! I skipped the multiplayer from WaW and Black Ops but the MW 1 and 2 multiplayer does it for me. I havent had a "NEW" CoD fix in almost 2 years since MW2 came out.

All in all, people should be glad they have so much choices. If you dont like the stale state COD has been, move on! Battlefield, Resisntance, Halo anniversary are coming out in that same period. Lots of FPS flavor variety to go around. To each its own.

Perjoss4644d ago

To be fair the single player parts in modern warfare games have always been pretty good, nothing amazing but above average and worth a play through. It's just a shame that they have such popular multiplayer so the price never seems to drop until the next installation arrives.

Zechs344644d ago

@Griever. Yeah. I totally agree with this comment. The only problem I have with CoD is sometimes people actually do buy only one game a year and they wait till november for CoD, and it unfortunately takes away sales from other games in the process. But for fast paced online TD, CoD is where its at. I've tried to quit. Believe me lol.

jeseth4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

I'm going to get both BF and MW. Both are great games. I don't understand why people love to hate COD so much either . . .probably because its on top.

I wonder if BF was as popular as COD if people would hate on it and talk about how BF hasn't had a lot of drastic improvements since Bad Company except for "graphical" improvements.

COD perhaps caters too much to its fans feedback. Some improvements are good (costmizing, game modes, etc.) and some come off ass unbalanced. But they do at least put in an effort to make their product more to what the community is talking about.

COD and BF are good games but I'm not naive enough to seriously think BF3 has any shot of outselling MW3. The 360 version of MW3 alone will outsell all platforms of BF3 combined. If Black Ops sells 25 million, MW3 will probably sell close to 30 million. The MW branch pf COD is the most popular franchise in gaming, more powerfull than Halo, Gears, Uncharted, GOW, Mario, Zelda, etc. BF can't touch it.

Moragami4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

@ jeseth

"I wonder if BF was as popular as COD if people would hate on it and talk about how BF hasn't had a lot of drastic improvements since Bad Company except for "graphical" improvements."

Uh, well they would be idiots, because DICE has rebuilt the Frostbite engine and BF3 is a major step forward in gaming, at least from a technological standpoint.

Most of the gripes about CoD are well earned: they have failed to innovate, they charge too much for too long (including DLC), and they don't support their games very well (hackers and exploits galore).

Sarcasmology4644d ago

@GS

"The winning formula is still there, it all depends on how much of it you had."

What...a Charlie Sheen 'Winning' formula?

vickers5004644d ago

"they have failed to innovate"

Where's the innovation in Battlefield 3? All I've seen so far from BF3 is Bad Company 2 with prettier graphics, bigger maps, a few more vehicles and better destructability. No drastic or innovative changes.

Face it, they're both not that different from their predecessors. BF3 may be more different than the previous iteration, but not by any large amount.

Heartnet4643d ago

@Morgami

So what if they upgraded their engine that dont make BF3 a major step forward in gaming..

Thats like sayiung ME2 on ps3 is a MAJOR step forward from the Me2 on Xbox cause it uses an Improved engine when in fact its still the same game..

CoD and BF series are the same.. same games better graphics smoother animations more of this and more of that... sure one is better than the other in certain aspects but their the same nonetheless

DtotheRoc4641d ago

@grieversoul i will agree with a couple of the names you mentioned but how can you say assassin's creed is just a rehash? from 1-2 is an entirely different experience and brotherhood added MP after that and gave you full control to experiment with the main character desmond where as you had control of him for 5 minutes in 2 and never did anything with him in 1 other than walk from his room to the animus lol. anyway those are games that are NOT fps and therefore not in a naturally stale genre AND they as far as assassin's creed goes the story is grade A material with lots of surprises not a predictable block buster shooter like cod always is. that said i still have a blast with the campaigns of the games. Need for speed on the otehrhand is a truely milked franchise so i'll definately give you that one and i'm not big into sports games myself i only own mlb the show 09 cuz it's the BEST baseball game ever made.

dark-hollow4644d ago

So much interest from people who "hate" the game.

If you hate cod, ignore it.
But writing hate articles and trolling every cod article is very insecure.

3GenGames4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

If you just ignore it, they don't hear the outcry of disappointment from people. This series has the chance to kill most the rest by doing major improvement and being a step ahead and actually trying new and exciting stuff with a improved game engine, but every game is about to do that exact thing to COD now. The hate is from everyone being stabbed in the back because they believed it'd actually stay ahead and be the best, but all the loyal fans have been let down.

dark-hollow4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

Yeah, trolling few articles on the interwebz will make activi$ion re-think their ways of cod games?? Uhh... No.

Vote with your wallet.
Your whinings on the internet won't change anything while 20+ million gamer buy cod every year!

Don't get me wrong. I dislike how activation rehash cod every year with little to no improvements.

But what can we do?? maybe will come a day when it formula gets old and the fans leave it or it get outdone by another fps.

jeseth4644d ago

Agreed dark-hollow. The people on this site are the vast MINORITY of gamers.

I tell people gaming news and they ask "where I read that" . . . "I say N4G" ... they say "never heard of it".

COD : MW is a cultural gaming icon. Its now more powerful than Mario, Link, Cheif, Kratos, Marcus or Drake. BF3 would be a wild success if it sells half of what MW3 sells.

miDnIghtEr4644d ago

Here is one of the weak articles 5 reasons.

"It's cool to hate on the successful"

Really? That's the reason?

antz11044644d ago

@ 3Gen

Lmao, how have you been stabbed in the back? Did they promise one thing and give you another? No, they said "here's CoD", and people bought it, there was no ruse there. A lot of people like it because it's the same thing, and a lot of them are what you would term loyal fans.

Heartnet4643d ago

Your comments make this sentence hypocritical when urself have just hated on this game

TBM4644d ago

Im not gonna outright ignore it im just not gonna worry about it when it releases with the other games I want to play first and foremost. I'll play MW3 sometime in Dec-Jan when I've gone through the others I want to play.

chriski3334644d ago

I just don't like the fact that it looks exactly like modern warfare 2 I really wish they could bring something new to the table

miDnIghtEr4644d ago

Uncharted 3 looks just like Uncharted 2.. people aren't complaining. KZ 3 looks just like KZ 2... Madden 12 looks like Madden 11. Assassins Creed number whatever now looks just like the last one.. Mass Effect 3 looks like 2.. etc...

The haters are all out this year about COD. I understand though... It's like hating the Lakers.

Silencer-144644d ago

On the brightside it looks better then black ops. With that said it would be nice if they improved the graphics a lil more and and try to fix the game when it gets hacked.

I'll be picking up mw3 along with bf3 and r3, so I'll be all set when it comes fps.

Heartnet4643d ago

Dude if u buy ur games based on if they have improved their graphics over the last one.. ur gonna have a sorry collection of games tbh

You buy a game if you like the series and if you enjoy playing it :) Not Oh the graphics havent changed so im gonna pass... Realistic Graphics arnt everything lol

Amaterasu54644d ago

either way you're still stupid if you buy it :D

Heartnet4643d ago

Meh you will probz end up buying it :) along with everyone else in this article :D

Amaterasu54643d ago

hahahaha yea right, how many cod games are out there? how many i bought? zero....how many FPS games i've bought? zero.. :D

chidori6664644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

really funny the disagree and agree here in this topic...

It is ridiculous how CoD fanboys constantly disagree opinions here in N4G. If the game is so good why are you here police in opinions idiots??

zeddy4644d ago

i reckon the reviews will be around 6/7 out of 10, dont matter though still gonna get it.

snipes1014644d ago

Reason number four, while utterly idiotic (and used in a very tongue in cheek manner here I believe), is so true it's sad. People just love to hate on something when it gets popular.

DeleteThisxx4643d ago

I'm sorry but Activision IS the worst this gen in terms of milking. They're only excuse for a yearly CoD is the "story" but people but CoD for the multiplayer. Why don't they go the way of Counter Strike and just update the multiplayer? Easy, effective, cheaper..

Oh, but that's right, Kotick is a money hungry bitch.

slaton244643d ago

this is a counter arguement against the article that stated 5 reasons why MW3 will b the best choice over all games this fall

Bladesfist4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

I will buy a cod game when they update the engine or add something significantly new. Until then I will hope they listen to us and change something.

MAJ0R4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

these next months will determine what's next for COD, if BF3 outdoes MW3 then they make think about coming up with a new engine and ideas

if it doesn't then they will just laugh because they are already doing well so whats the point of making a new engine or doing anything new

dark-hollow4644d ago

For me I prefer bf3 all the way but I doubt that it will beat mw3 (in sales).

As for quality am sure that dice will deliver.

Bladesfist4644d ago

@MAJ0R The sad thing is mods have changed cod 4 more than cod 4 has changed to mw3. Also IWnet the hacked mw2 multiplayer offers more variety and change than mw3 does :/

@dark-hollow MW3 is not even on game.co.uk sale chart for pc. Its also not top on any platform while bf3 is top on pc and higher than mw3 on ps3.

StayStatic4644d ago

Just to chime in on this ... lol

Currently on http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/...

PC BF3 : 2nd

PC MW3 : 29th

I know its not the sole source of pre-orders but i still think it says a lot.

jeseth4644d ago

And the Xbox 360 version of MW3 is #1, the PS3 version of MW3 #3.

Way to fail. The console versions of MW3 will more than double the sales of all versions of BF3.

When will the BF fanboys stop? Don't you know you are fighting a losing battle? COD is a cultural icon. People that don't play video games see a military shooter and say "are you playing Call of Duty?" . . . there is so much power in that its not even funny.

COD is like Mario now. Its a powerhouse that won't be stopped. MW3 will destroy everything. Any "gamer" that knows anything about the gaming industry knows this. Stop fooling youselves about BF3. Its kind of sad to see you all trying so hard.

Fishy Fingers4644d ago

Love it or hate it, it's clear you cant ignore it (see any COD thread), if anything, those that "hate" it, seem practically incapable of avoiding anything COD related. Which is bizarre.

Hicken4644d ago

I hate spiders. I most certainly DO NOT ignore a spider when it's nearby.

I hate people who change lanes/turn without a turn signal. I'd be an idiot to ignore them.

Simco8764644d ago

This is not real life Hicken, this is a game.

You can easily ignore this game and move on with your life playing BF3, or some other game you fancy.

I don't see a problem with the people that want CoD, they like the game so let them play it.

vortis4644d ago

You can't ignore the clones of CoD though.

This boils down to industry influence and CoD has the most influence, which IS NOT A GOOD THING.

Crysis 2 tried mimicking CoD with its single and multiplayer...going from an open-world, massive, evolutionary gameplay style in Crysis 1 to a more multi-linear setup in the second game. And then they added all those fake perks and killstreaks....geesh. Everyone is trying to mimic CoD to cash in on the popularity even at the expense of moving forward or trying new things.

DtotheRoc4641d ago

@vortis has sad it all. everyone is trying to copy the cod formula losing their own identity in teh process and pissing off the fans that got them where they are in teh industry today. look at socom 4's huge and criminal changes to their winning socom 2 experience? the fans are pissed but they still bought it cuz it's all there is left now...the gaming industry is fucked thanks to COD and it's irresponsible console kiddies who eat it up.

Alos884644d ago

Given the ridiculous amount of advertising it will get I doubt it will be possible to ignore it outright. Still, I'll rent it as I do with all the COD's.

NuclearDuke4644d ago

"There are lots of other games coming out"
- Is that, a reason?

"Too many idiot online players"
- Everygame has too many idiot online players.

"The game will be hacked and full of cheaters within days"
- Name me one successfull FPS without cheats @ the first week.

Really, what the hell.

EditorAtGNG4644d ago

1. Of course it is a reason. Why would you give your money to play yet another bland, uninspired, aged shooter when you can play an innovative, refreshing and interesting new titles?

2. COD has one of the worst playerbase out there. The fact that there are couple of million players that are mostly bellow 15 just proves that point.

3. Prove me wrong but, weren't there hundreds of different posts on this very website about new exploitations / cheats on every major COD release in the past few years? And Activision's / Treyarach's / Infinity Ward's continuous ignorance towards repairing the damage?

What the hell indeed.

NuclearDuke4644d ago

1. You didn't explain how it can be a reason. How is Battlefield any refreshing from BF:BC2? It's the same game with renewed graphics and veichular combat. Obviously, if two CoD games can become #1 and #2 most sold games two years in a row, people like what it has to offer. Prove me wrong.

2. CoD's playerbase is definately not the "worst". Check League of Legends, Check Heroes of Newerth, check Counter-Strike and you are up there and beyond by miles.

3. You cannot stop hacking, simply. Counter-Strike has thousands of hackers playing daily, VAC cannot detect it. Battlefield has thousands of hackers playing daily, Punkbuster cannot detect it. Prove me that CoD has more hackers than any other successfull shooter.

I'm buying both BF3 & MW3, the games are different enough to allow me to purchase and enjoy both in each aspeect. Stop being a fanboy.

4644d ago
vortis4644d ago

Why do idiots keep saying BF3 is like BFBC2? Really are people that daft that they know nothing about why there is legit hype behind BF3?

You don't know about 64+ players with fully destructible environments, physics-based weapons with bullet drop and wall breakage? You don't know about the enhanced AI mechanics and reactionary animation setup for a much more realistic experience?
Multi-area destructible vehicles and advanced physics for vehicular combat? Photo-realistic graphics that actually AFFECT THE GAMEPLAY?

I mean do you guys go out of your way to ignore all the things DICE has mentioned has been upgraded, added and innovated in Frostbite 2.0 or do you hope that by spreading ignorance other games will ignore these changes and assume that annual reskins is the way the industry should go?

ilikegam3s4644d ago

What you talking about is different. People only say that BF3 is the same as BF3 is because most people are talking about consoles NOT PC.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac17d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-2315d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher31d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris31d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera31d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii31d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts31d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX30d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.
