PC Shooter Hard Reset 'Too Heavy To Run On Five-Year-Old Consoles' - Dev

Hard Rest is an old-school cyberpunk PC shooter, which generates some impressive visuals thanks to Fying Wild Hog's brand new engine - but you won't be seeing a console port down the line.

This actually looks really cool. I have never heard of Flying Wild Hog before, but the game looks promising, almost like a New Unreal Tournament.

Will definately look for this and more gameplay, especially with the promise of not even considering console mechanics and graphics limitation.

Here is the video, if people cannot be bothered using "Flowplaer Free Version" which NowGamer uses.

Flying Wild Hog was formed from members of People Can Fly (Painkiller), CD Projekt RED (The Witcher 2), and City Interactive (Sniper: Ghost Warrior).

NuclearDuke4650d ago

I can't say I am a huge fan of The Witcher 2, but thanks for the info!

Perjoss4650d ago

@NuclearDuke

I heard about you but thought it was just a myth, you're the guy that does not like Witcher 2.

evrfighter4650d ago

Hey now that looks impressive. I need to see some more footage

Christopher4649d ago

Game looks stellar, but the gameplay looks fairly generic so far :(

@Perjoss - I liked Witcher 2, but find that I liked the first one a lot more for some reason.

NuclearDuke4649d ago

The gameplay being fairly "generic" is a keypoint. Unreal Tournament is generic, Quake is generic. Being a plain and simple Sci-Fi shooter is a positive thing in my book.

Yea yea and watch it still be a average shooter like most now of days...pc only will just cut ur projects worth in half...Piracy FTL!

fluffydelusions4650d ago

Piracy is definitely an issue but it's also an issue for consoles too.

vickers5004649d ago

Not really. Handhelds maybe, but it's not a very big issue for consoles, as the amount of people who hack their consoles to play games for free isn't very big.

Letros4650d ago (Edited 4650d ago )

They're an indie dev with a passion, they'll likely make enough to keep doing what they are passionate about, making games...

bumnut4649d ago

COD, Battlefield, Farcry & Crysis started out on PC and they did ok.

Micro_Sony4650d ago

Stuff like this really makes you think how far back in technology we console owners are.

Games like Uncharted 3 and Gears 3 lool good but thats as far as they go GRAPHICS.

Uncharted enviorment should have free to explore maps because the art and ladscape is so breath taken.

Gears multiplayer should at least 10 vs 10 with distructable enviorment.

Infamous should have graphics and a living world that surpass GTA4

All of the games above should be running in 1080p

death2smoochie4650d ago (Edited 4650d ago )

The Xbox360 and PS3 cannot render those type of effects with graphics like Uncharted 3 or Gears 3.
There has to be trade offs...
Either great graphics and linear game play with little to no interaction with the games surroundings OR Interactive environmental damage and larger maps with average graphics.
Consoles at this stage cannot have it all.
1080p gaming with those features is especially not possible.

@jdoki

"However looking at the way new IP perform (on any platform), and looking at sales on PC in general, it's a risky strategy for a dev (especially a new one) to stick to one platform. I hope they don't go under after one title."

Or they can follow the same format as DICE.
Make the PC the lead platform and develop the game with all the bells and whistles these consoles do not have and then stream line it for the consoles.
So it becomes multi-platform but the PC is the LEAD system that will take full advantage of its hardware without having it ported to the PC

fluffydelusions4650d ago

A higher player count doesn't make a game better. Other factors at play.

r214649d ago

and thats what the ps4 and xbox 3 will do ;D

Resistance4649d ago

yeah but when the next generation of consoles comes out they will be around $600 or more. It took a while for the PS3 to drop down in price.

Christopher4649d ago

***Stuff like this really makes you think how far back in technology we console owners are. ***

Not really. I'm completely happy with the technology on my old consoles and on my PC. What I'm finding more and more is that this generation of consoles reached the point where I can honestly say that almost every other element of the game is much more important than putting out the best graphics.

vickers5004649d ago

Agreed. A game with average graphics but great art style is MUCH more important than a game with no artistic creativity with super high res textures.

I watched the trailer, there's way to much happening on screen. The devs are right. To have that game run on console there would have to be strips made.

WOW Hard Reset!!!? Remembering playing this game years ago on my PC never finish it thou, cause it was very buggy still lots of particle effects and pretty looking I hope that gets intact.

update: some particles effects are missing still game the looks freaking awesome, with correct price definitely will get this :D

LifeInNZ3116d ago

Gameplay definitely looks dated but priced right as a PSN title it could provide a brief distraction.

GribbleGrunger3116d ago

Going around killing stuff in first person ... There's a novelty.

Shadow Warrior was an unexpected treat last year for PC gamers. I may go ahead and get it for PS4 anyway just to support these guys.

Activemessiah3716d ago

Flying wild hog are amazing devs with great consumer attitude... pretty much the exact opposite of EA then.

thezeldadoth3716d ago

Shadow Warrior was hands down the best shooter last year. If you don't have a PC that can run it and have a ps4 or xbox one, buy this game. Support the devs and enjoy an amazing shooter with a surprisingly interesting story

JsonHenry3716d ago (Edited 3716d ago )

This was such a good remake. I picked it up on a steam sale for less than $20. I didn't expect to like it nearly as much as I did. I would suggest you play this game. Its fun, funny, and full of Wang! I also suggest you check out Hard Reset. It was really good too.

Volkama3716d ago

Also bought it cheap because I appreciated the topical jabs at cod and bf in the trailer.

It's a fun game, but I doubt even the devs would say it was "one of the best looking games in 2013".

JsonHenry3716d ago

It looked good without a doubt. But no, not the best looking. Who said it was the best looking anyway?

SteamFirst: Hard Reset Review

SteamFirst: Hard Reset is a sci-fi FPS developed by indie studio Flying Wild Hog. Not only has this developer managed to pack this game full of beautiful textures and effects, but it is also a ton of fun. Hard Reset aims to bring you back to 1993 when the classic game Doom won the hearts of millions of gamers. The game is a wonderful mix of modern technology and classic FPS style gameplay found in other modern games such as Serious Sam. Hard Reset is an easy game to recommend and only faults in its poor story telling and long loading times.
