There is no reason why EVE Online shouldn't fit on your phone, according to the MMO's lead designer Kristoffer Touborg.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com about whether cross-platform gaming is the next logical step for MMOs, Touborg said:
"I can't for the life of me figure out why this hasn't happened yet.
CCP Games has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for their sci-fi MMO EVE Online in 2024, headlined by the massive Equinox expansion set to launch on June 11th.
Alex from The Nerd Stash: "CCP Games' latest expansion for EVE Online, Havoc, is off to a flying start following its release earlier this month, the developer has confirmed."
Some thoughts from the developers on various aspects of the new EVE Online Havoc expansion and more.
Hopefully, one day they can convince Microsoft to let it happen for the XBOX 360.
Can you imagine the CONSOLE WARS we could all have on DUST 514?
It would be EPIC.
lol
Order & Chaos Online is a pretty decent (probably the best) mobile MMORPG, especially for WoW-heads.
Why not? People check/make spreadsheets on their iphones all of the time.
lol
I can "figure it out" for you, Kristoffer.
Phones with decently high rez screens have only been available since about 2009, and only commonplace since 2010, and phones with a decent amount of RAM are the same.
Also, The EVE Online interface is freaking tiny, as-is. Fitting it on a phone would be a nightmare.
On top of that, Java (Android) and Objective-C (iOS) only run about half as fast as C/C++, even with the latest compilation techniques, and iOS and Android apps require that any app be able to shut down immediately, at any time. That's going to require a lot of forethought, in making a mobile EVE client, I'd think. Even native C/C++ compilation requires a lot of app reworking, and then becomes tied to specific hardware.
If you dont' go native, then you have a LOT of reauthoring to do, because Objective-C and Java are only superficially similar to C/C++, really, especially if you're writing a performance app.
There you have it, the reasons why, and I don't even work for CCP. WoW will make it to a phone before EVE -- the auction house and guild chat already have.
I had to write this, because I despise how the engineering-ignorant trivialize the work of the engineer. Dang aristocrats! =)
Isn't Dust 514 on the Vita as well. Don't know if it will be the full version but i saw it on a list of games announced for it.
