PSN users left in ‘Limbo’ over pricing

July 21st 2010 saw the ‘Xbox Live Arcade’ release of ‘Play dead Software’s’ Critically acclaimed ‘Limbo’ it was released at a price of 1200 Microsoft Points (MP) One year on and the game has been bundled with ‘Trials HD’ and ‘Splosion Man’ and released as ‘Xbox Live: Hits Collection’ for as Little as £6.98!

Yeah I had a God of War level in Lbp aswell. Didn't bother with God of War 3 after that.

Also to the people below saying it ain't worth 15, no linear game less that 10 hours is worth full price...like ugh, how about ugh God of war 3? No replay value. Doesn't mean the quality is bad. If you want to get it then do. Tis a good game for a puzzle platformer(ish) with good gameplay and a unique style and freeky world

With all respect, your analogy is crap as Limbo level in LBP has more similarities than the GoW level in LBP to GOW the game.

The LBP Limbo level is not a viable substitute for the real thing. It's fun and looks cool, but it's still not really Limbo and doesn't have the feel.

Let's stop pretending that "tribute" levels in LBP (or any other build-your-own level game) are anything more than fun curiosities.

Clones of Limbo in LBP are not Limbo. If they were good enough, people shouldn't be complaining about the price, because they wouldn't even need the game to begin with.

Plus, it's not a year old on PS3. Age doesn't make it any less of a game than it was a year ago on 360 where it's still $15 on XBL. If someone thinks a better deal can be found elsewhere, they should buy that. But the only "deal" out there for people who want Limbo on PS3, is the three game pack on disc for 360 which runs for $20.

To me, it seems rather ridiculous that people would find the differences between platforms important enough to justify waiting a year for the version they want, then act like platform is irrelevant when it comes to release date and determining pricing, and simultaneously expect it to be CHEAPER than the other version.

It's hypocrisy two times over.

If you don't want to pay $15 for it, cool, but don't act like it isn't a fair price.

I played the demo and it was cool, but not 14.99 cool... hell I paid less for the Tomb Raider: Guardian Of Light PSN game and that game is three times more awesome then LIMBO..

In-fact if you didn't get that I recommend that one over limbo any day of the week..

It's a nice game, but for me it wouldn't have been worth 1200 MSP. 600/800 points is more than enough for a short single-player puzzle-platformer with very little replay-value.

There hasn't even been a price cut on the 360. There have been sales, sure, and even a bundle, but the actual game of Limbo is still 1200 M$ points.

The prices on download-only titles do not drop anywhere near the rate that the retail prices do. Because, they honestly don't have to. They don't really have competition.

1200 MS points is $15. So I'm not sure what all the complaining is about. It's the exact same price as it was when it was on the 360 last year.

I spent a lot of time with the game last year and it's an absolute blast. One of the best arcade titles ever. You could complain about the price or decide not to buy a Big Mac for a day and buy one of the best puzzle/platform games of the last decade.

I can see why it was priced like that, who the heck would know what MS is doing with their prices in advance. Only the creator of Limbo is likely to know it....

I agree with you.... bottom line is that it is a new game on PSN. There are development and marketing costs that go into the production and release of a new game, whether it appears on another platform or not. People didn't gripe (too much) when Mass Effect 2 was released on the PS3 for the full $60 price.

I bought it (with my PS+ discount) yesterday and I played through it in about 3 hours and loved it. It was challenging and different. LBP recreations are great, but they don't do justice to the originals. I played the LBP Limbo level and it is not the same.

That being said, it is the same price as a movie (actually, a movie is more money) and a movie is only 2 hours long. So, the value per hour is better with Limbo!

And, if you want to wait for a price drop... go for it! No one is stopping you... but why rain on the developer's parade. The most purchases of a game are made upon release. By the time the price drops, it will be off most people's radar. Not to mention the costs they have to pay Sony to put it on the PSN (or MS to put it on XBLA) The developer is entitled to make money on their game.

Agree with your point that a ported game has its own development costs, etc. However, it also matters that's it's a year old since it was first released. Mass Effect 2 is actually a great example since it sold 2.5M on 360 but only .5M on PS3 a year later.

I'm going to wait another 6 hours to play the game when it's dark. It's going to be awesome, and you can't put a price on that.

That's what I heard. The argument that "But it's only $$ on the 360!" Yeah, plus the price of a 360 if you don't have a 360. Ridiculous argument. Obviously if you have a 360 you're going to buy it cheaper on the 360 - same with Mass Effect 2. But if you don't you're going to buy it on the console you own.

I heard plenty of reviewers talk seriously about Limbo as game of the year last year. I remember one saying "As much as I loved and played Halo Reach for the year, I'll remember and be thinking about that little, glowing eyed kid when I'm on my deathbed."

Your right about that, but it is important for people to realise that it is still selling for 15$ on 360 too.

It was on sale for half off($7.50) on live a while ago, and there is a cheap version on a disk with 2 other games, but the digital copy on LIVE arcade is still selling for $15 even though its a year old.

Good example of ME2 you bring up. I bought it on 360 when it first came out for $60. I thought it was funny that people were mad about that price on PS3 considering it was a new game on PS3(and other games that arrived later on that were also $60, did people complain when Oblivion was $60 on PS3) and it came with a bunch of DLC. I paid $60 for my copy with no DLC.

Are there going ot be 360 owners who think the withcer 2 should be $40 when it comes out because its old on PC? I would laugh.

I raged at the $60 price tag for ME2 PS3...but..

I also bought Limbo on my 360 and again for my PS3 for $15.

$60 was a pretty hefty price for a game that's over a year old. Hell...it's still $60. Even games that came out a few months after ME2 PS3 have had significant price drops like Bulletstorm, Killzone, Dead Space...and even LA Noire had a price drop. The 360's version was $40 a few months after it released. By the time GoTY 2010 votes started rolling in, it was $20. That's a huge disservice to PS3 gamers interested in the PS3's version.

Limbo has what content to justify a price that is way less on other system that's the question that I counter your ME2 argument with.

People don't rage on ME2 because of two things one is that unlike Limbo which I doubt will add anything that significant to justify the price ME2 had all the big DLC to begin with. Second for ME2 people aren't in on the fact that if one does the math they still get screwed out of at least $4 (ME2 on 360 was $20 when PS3 released and with all paid dlc except Arrival if bought on 360 it would have totaled to $56) so it was $4 more for a full game so that was excusable in the eyes of many.

Limbo is a DL game and it's quite normal for people to be feeling a sense of outrage.

All in all if people are complaining about the price I'd just tell them to wait for a price drop or a bundle similar to the one on 360 or just skip it. Skipping it may seem harsh but if they can't wait some more than they already did and they still want to complain I'd just ask them to move on.

I bought it last night and played it for a few hours. I don't regret my purchase at all. So far it is an original, neat little game. With PS+ it was only $11 and that's not going to break my bank even if I ended up not liking it. Hell, I payed $16 to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 3D IMAX and that was only a 3 hour long movie. $15 seems like a fair price for this game if you've never played it before, to me at least.

You know, I bought Limbo when it was on sale for 800 M$ points ($10) because I'm a cheapo. After playing it, though, it really is super special and one of a kind. It's worth the $15.

Also, Limbo is still 1200 M$ points on the XBL Marketplace. It's literally still $15. So, why should PSN get a discount when it's brand new on there when it's still full priced on Xbox 360? ? ?

I don't see the problem, its a new game for PS users so its priced at that level, Castle Crashers was full priced and that came a lot later than Limbo and the same dumb complaints surfaced.

They had to redo the game to work on PS3 and it a masterpiece and you're complaining they want to earn money off their work just because its on sale for X360?

Its $12 for PS+ people, should the X360 people complain that when it originally launched they didn't get the 3 dollar discount like plus people are getting?

Limbo is fantastic. I got about 16 hours out of it after getting all the eggs and going for the "No Point in Dying" achievement. Even though it SHOULD be $10, I fully think everyone should still buy this game.

I bought this, trials HD, and 'Splosion man for $10 on a disc from best buy this week. I never bought Limbo for $15 on XBLA and I wouldn't have bought it for $15 on PSN either. Do I think the price is unfair? Not at all. Different people value things differently. For me, this game was never a value at any price less than $3.33 (which is basically what i paid for it on that disc). For other people this might be a $15 game. Bitching about it like a little girl isn't going to make them drop the price. I mean, when has that ever worked before?

Borderlands is overpriced too. They have the regular version for $15 and the discounted version with DLC for $15. Come on if you're gonna sell both launch and DLC versions you should price and discount accordingly.

I never buy anything in a quick manner on PSN. There's always an error or a better deal somewhere else or a rip-off.
