I'm not so sure it is, as the Wii U hardly seems leaps and bounds ahead of the other two...

It doesn't offer many benefits, if any, over the PSVita + PS3 combo either.

MasterCornholio4675d ago (Edited 4675d ago )

I agree with you. From what i have seen of the WiiU and from the Specs it doesn't seem leaps and bounds over the 360 and PS3. I believe that when the PS4 and the 720 come out they will be a lot better tech wise than the WiiU. Which is one of the reasons why i am not going to pick up Nintendo's console. Also the WiiU Controller freaks the hell out of me.

NewMonday4675d ago

comfortably running the Samaritan Unreal tech demo should be the minimum recruitment of the next gen XBox or PS4. any less will be disappointing.

MasterCornholio4675d ago

@DarkCharizard_

The only hardcore fanboy here is you. We all know that your deeply in love with Nintendo so your opinion means squat.

Next time dont even bother replying me.

@newmonday

I agree with you. Next gen consoles should be capable of at least that. problem is that it took a ton of high end GPUs to run it. So releasing a next gen system that can do that now would be 2 expensive. Which is why i believe that in a couple of years the 720 and PS4 will come out.

Thank you for your reply.

Voxelman4675d ago

While the Samaritan demo took 3 GTX580s to run that was on a PC with an unoptimised build (Epic said they could get it to run on one optimised) with all the OS and API overheads PC games have to deal with. And it was running at a rock solid 60fps @ 1080p.

An optimised build on console @ 30fps (most games this gen are) you won't need close to that level of hardware. Also given the next Sony/MS consoles won't be out until 2013 at the soonest we are looking at 2 generations of GPU tech advancement to be going into next gen consoles meaning they should be able to match a single GTX580 and we may even see games with that level graphics at 60fps:)

No one but Nintendo and a select few publishers know how powerful the Wii U hardware will be. I believe its too early to write off the Wii U and pretend it won't be influential to the next gen plans of Sony and Microsoft. Personally, I hope the Wii U is a success, as I want the PS4 and Xbox 720 to come out sooner rather than later.

The PSVita + PS3 combo will be exciting if more than a few games actually use it. The fact that PSVita has a capacitive touch screen already makes it superior to the Wii U resistive screen tech, however a controller is bundled with every Wii U. Also, considering the fact that Sony is invested in Move and implementing that tech into its current (and future) crop of games, how many games will actually use PSVita? Its a fair question.

slaton244675d ago

there is nothing wrong with ps3 and 360 right now its stupid to want something new just because ur bored of the system(s) u have now....it could take another 10 years for all i care i am still enjoyin the ps3 and 360 that i have...gamers arent like the used to be

JellyJelly4675d ago

I'll wait with my judgement until I've seen it in action. For now we can only speculate, which imo is pretty pointless.

VampiricDragon4675d ago

the vita and ps3 cant do what a single controller can do. Maybe the streaming part ( we dont even know if it can handle it) let alone the other features that the vita does not have

kneon4675d ago (Edited 4675d ago )

The Vita is far more capable than the Wii U controller so I see no reason why it can't do everything the Wii U controller can do and more.

But I doubt we'll see it used in this way in many, if any, games. By shipping this new controller they are ensuring that every Wii U owner has one, the same will certainly not be true for the PS3+Vita.

Motion control succeeded on the Wii because everyone had it, not because it was particularly good or innovative, because it certainly wasn't. I expect they are trying the same thing with this new Wii U controller, but in my opinion they've already blown it by only supporting one such controller per console.

VampiricDragon4675d ago

oh boy your wrong on so many points where to start

1) the wii u is still in development . All they said is it only supports one wii u controller RIGHT NOW.

2) The vita is not more capable than the wii u controller. We dont know how fast the wireless stream speed would be, it doesnt have the same feature set, and the controller is just a controller

ATiElite4675d ago

NOPE!
Microsoft launching the Xbox 720 in 2012 will force Sony to launch the PS4 early. The WiiU is not even in the equation.

The WiiU will have a AMD HD 4870 making it more than capable of 1080p gaming and graphics that would crush the 360 and PS3 BUT the WIIU lacks the social network like PSN and XBL so it will wow many gamers but not pull many away from PS4 or xbox 720.

Also with NO solid price information the WiiU has lost ALL it's E3 buzz meanwhile the PS Vita is still making noise because we know the price! The PS4 and 720 have the edge by waiting to see how the public reacts to the WiiU Price. For the record $499 or higher and the public is not gonna like it.

JsonHenry4675d ago

Could someone please link me to official specs? People keep talking about them but I have yet to see anything confirmed by Nintendo.

DeadlyFire4675d ago (Edited 4675d ago )

The only thing officially said is IBM CPU and AMD GPU by Nintendo and the respective parties. IBM has revealed WiiU has CPU based off their IBM Watson CPU on the new Power7 tech specs I personally believe. Since Watson is powered by Power7 cores. They have said nothing else.

Although its very much so rumored that WiiU has triple core CPU and ATI/AMD 4800 line GPU. Even so that is enough for 1080, large graphics bump, and higher fps.

Its CPU if true = a 12 threaded CPU. Why well Power7 supports quad threaded CPU cores. So it would make sense. Roughly twice as many threads as last gen powerhouses. Doesn't exactly tell you how much faster/better the CPU could/will be though. I expect this to be the worst case scenario specs for the Wii U. So either way its not bad. Games will be on level with Battlefield 3/Crysis2/RAGE, or better I believe.

DeadlyFire4675d ago (Edited 4675d ago )

A side note to that is IBM Watson uses 8 core IBM Power7 CPUs so. 8 times 4 SMT treads per core = 32 threads. Never know.

DrFUD4675d ago (Edited 4675d ago )

Thats where you dudes are wrong.
This article might as well say Microsoft will be next and soon.
MS knows the importance of a lead and they can't afford to give Nintendo too large of one.
Not only that but WiiU has a larger disc like the PS3 and that is going to make PS3/WiiU games easy for 3rd parties, while the 360's DVD presents a problem.
Basically MS nextbox is coming soon.
It will have a larger capacity format and will give cusomters something else to choose from when they want a new system (and I'm talking actually "new" because the 360 and PS3 hardwares can change shapes and colors all they want but at the end of the day they are old systems and everybody in the store knows that) and when you walk into a store and think "gee should I buy a 6 year old xbox or the brand spankin new WiiU and have the satisfaction of be the first on the block with it, well as a consumer the new product is going to win out.

WII U is not that powerful that competition should launch new consoles. Just get creative ubisoft and don't depend on graphics.

Malice-Flare4675d ago

if true, they're risking burning bridges to MS and Sony, because both of them would probably want no speculation that affects current sales...

beast242tru4675d ago

i doubt this i dnt think sony neither microsoft is in rush for another console its just nintendo playing catch up. alot of money was invested into the ps3 and 360 the company gonna ride these consoles till they are squeezed 2 max

Artpulse review for PlayStation 4 - Demon Gaming

Karl writes: - You’re placed in an out-of-this-world environment (there’s a small selection to choose from) and after a quick tutorial of which buttons do what, you’re free to play! Using the motion controllers to combine a variety of shapes and colors (and a bit of freehand painting) you’ll produce beats, synths and…other musical sounds (I’m not an EDM expert so you’ll have to forgive my ignorance on the subject) which will create and elevate the chosen track (again not a huge selection but enough to showcase ArtPulse).

Himno review for PlayStation 4 - Demon Gaming

Josh writes: - I am going to cut through all the formalities I normally give my reviews with Himno. Normally I try to go into ever Indie title I play with an open mind, and that was no different with Himno. The game boasts “a non-violent, no death platformer.” That may be true that you do not fight off zombies or orcs. However, the bit about not dying is a load of crap as you will constantly fall into the water as you have no clue where you are going half the time.

The animation is nice and it looks like it controls well but they seem to have forgotten to make it a game.

Mekabolt review for PlayStation 4 - Demon Gaming

Lyam writes: - Mekabolt is very simple in concept. Your gun itself is the mekabolt and shooting enemies allows you to manipulate them in a way to continue on in the stage. For instance, one enemy walks on a platform and by shooting it, you can use it to access higher heights. Another is a flying one that when shot, it falls to the ground briefly, letting the player have a moment to jump atop of it and ride upwards. Figuring out the patterns of the enemies and what their benefits are is the key to success in finishing stages. There’s not much difficulty since each time a new concept such as a new enemy appears, the next few stages are simplified to learn the benefits of that enemy.
