CCP explains how Dust 514 will work on PS3 | GRTV

GR-UK: "Dust 514's PS3 exclusivity and cross-plaform play was one of the big surprises at Sony's E3 conference. But how is the persistent shooter going to work? PSN downloads, micro-transactions and more: producer Thomas Farrer tells us all."

I am definitely interested in this game. Seems like it could be fantastic but it is really going to be on the developers to strike that balance of console style play vs persistant MMO type dedication play.

I had to laugh a little when they were talking about pricing. There will be a "cover charge" then free to play with microtransactions. I will be curious to see what the "cover" charge turns out to be. I would love to see it in the $20 range but am guessing it will be $40-50 and be just short of full priced.

Drekken4689d ago

Price of the game is the cover charge.

OC_MurphysLaw4689d ago

@Drekken, no I get that. I just found the termonology funny. I have never heard someone call the price of the game a "cover charge". It's a term I pretty much associate with going out to a bar not playing a game.

Either way, I am curious to know what they are going to charge for the game.

ClimateKaren4688d ago

@Dlacy13g
It is peculiar. My guess is that players will be required to enter a one-use code to access the game. Perhaps one that they can sell on the PSN to someone renting. Just a guess.

coryok4689d ago

at e3 someone from ccp was saying they were looking into a $5-10 download price

OC_MurphysLaw4689d ago

I would definitely buy just to take a chance if that was the case.

KwietStorm_BLM4689d ago

You mean for the full game?

coryok4689d ago (Edited 4689d ago )

@kweitstorm ya, ill try and find a link to the video that i saw later, but ya, they were saying you get the full game, no time limits or other limitations for the $5-10

they were also saying that ps+ members were gonna get access to the game before other people (like a beta test deal? im not sure they were confusing on this point), and that they were in talks with sony to give it out to + members for free

ATiElite4689d ago (Edited 4689d ago )

Cover Charge?
What's next a two drink minimum and a dress code?

just hurry up and make the PC version as that may bring me back to the Eve universe although i may be too busy with Black Prophecy and Firefall.

For those who do not know CCP just creates the game world and it's up to the Gamers to decide how things will operate which is one great thing about Eve.

High Security area = NPC controlled, an area for Newbies to learn the game fight other Newbies and get your equipment, ISK, and skill level up

Low Security area = Nobody is gonna hold your hand anymore and it's time to man up and prepare to get raped. If you got mad skills then a Corporation will pay for your gear as you continue to kick ass.

Ravenor4689d ago

Just like MAG this will do more then any other console shooter this generation, yet because it doesn't "look" as good as KZ3 or CoD it will be hated on for that. Though the game is more then the same arena style, linear path following boredom.

Doesn't matter what the cost is, I'm more then excited to shoot down some stupid ship in Orbit.

coryok4689d ago

looking awesome, pretty interesting that theyre going to incorporate the security levels in the game. i wonder if youre gonna have to get a ride with people playing eve to get to the planets in nulsec lol

they might just teleport you there, the travel time takes quite a bit of time sometimes lol

anyways, ya, im really looking forward to this. im glad sony has such an open stance towards letting people make games. he said next summer for release right? about a year away... mmm...

i cant wait to see how this turns out, am really interested in this

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3007d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3007d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3007d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3007d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3007d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3007d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3007d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
