Star Wars Galaxies shuts down December 15th

On December 15th, Star Wars Galaxies will become one with the force and service will be discontinued. To be honest I would have bet it would have happened sooner what with the NGE scaring off many people. Somehow though, it stayed alive and I am sad to hear many a Star Wars and MMO fan will be homeless on this date. One has to wonder if this has something to do with Star Wars: The Old Republic coming out this year. Perhaps all the SWG players will migrate, which could be good and bad. Good, because it will be an entire player base coming over. Bad, because these people might be expecting more SWG.

I was hoping for Galaxies 2 to be announced to be released in 5 years to run along side this SWTOR MMO. Doing it right though. :) Still possible. So we will see. I personally don't expect SWTOR to live up to expectations.

such fond memories of the early days of SWG. walking out and planting a house right next to town with all my friends, people running around with 3 pet rancors, LOVING the awesome character creation tools that allowed me to make a very fat bothan. sadly i never even made it to the NGE patch. not really sure what that even did to piss so many off. i quit after i couldnt get online for a while and all my stuff decayed ><

I agree. I have very fond memories of swg pre nge. I quit when I went away to college in 2007 but for those first few years it was great. Some of my greatest gaming memories are from SWG.

And with Everquest Next mentioned around the web now a bit. Its possible Everquest 3 is right around the corner. Well for MMOs that could be revealed next year or 5 years from now.
