Kotaku: New Rainbow 6 Might Be the Most Innovative Shooter in Years

Kotaku's Brian Crecente writes, "I love my shooters, but the notion of finally adding to them the very real human cost of gunplay, of decisions that impact not just a country's safety, but a person's, is vastly intriguing to me."

LOGICWINS4702d ago

Wait, so its confirmed!! This is actually gunna happen?!

Nitrowolf24702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

I hope so. Man i have both Rainbow six 1 and 2 for PS3. I have a few past titles as well. These games are perhaps the best games for team play IMO.

Aloren4701d ago (Edited 4701d ago )

You want it to be kinect free ? then don't use kinect... Would you even get it on 360 ?

Blaze9294701d ago

You must have missed the part at E3 where they said ever Tom Clancy game will use Kinect from now on.

DeadlyFire4701d ago

All I see is Rainbow Six Vegas 3 or New York if you wanna call it that.

chaos-lockheart4701d ago

yea i hope so too, have it for the pc though, so im going to get it for the pc

IcarusOne4701d ago

Huge fan of this franchise. Many fond memories of terrorist hunts with friends on xbl. Can't wait to dive into this. I hope they implement the morality engine because it sounds pretty rad. Whether it works or not, I already applaud Ubisoft for thinking about going there. It's nice to see devs moving outside the box.

Yeah, I was just at Gamechamp and I was looking to get Vanquish or RB6: Vegas 2, but they were sold out, so I just picked COD4 for 12 bux.

8bit_Nes_Rambo4702d ago

Yeah, Vanquish is pretty sweet, bro. Good taste.

JellyJelly4702d ago

I own both and I'd recommend Vanquish. Not that RB6: Vegas 2 is a bad game, but with todays standards it feels very very old. Too old.

Vanquish is imo the best TPS money can buy.

BattleAxe4702d ago

RSV1 and 2 are both still fantastic games. The co-op modes never get old.

joydestroy4702d ago

omg i had no idea they were even working on a new RSV! very happy about this news. while i liked the updates to RSV:2 over the first, they were very minor. i'd like some updates to graphics this time around.

terrorist hunt on high density realistic FTW dude!

Washington-Capitals4701d ago

lets give credit where credit is due, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 on the PS3 was a very solid launch title and had really good MP at the time. I really enjoyed it. Never played RSV2 but if the developers are trying to innovate why not support them and have hope? All i see is people bashing cod etc for not innovating call a spade a spade. LETS HOPE this game will be something FRESH.

EVILDEAD3604701d ago

Rainbow Six 1 on the 360 which ended up being a timed-exclusive (6 months later on the PS3), was by ar one of the biggest suprises this gen.

The shootouts in and out of the casinos were simply phenominal at the time.

Where people don't give credit to Rainbox six is the co-op snd Terrorist Hunt..which is absolute CRACK and was out way before we got Horde mode type multi in most games these days.

The launch of 360s Ghost Recon and Rainbox Six Vegas were two of the biggest reasons I became huge fans of Ubisoft.

Never saw an announcement but best believe Ubisot can take my money now for another shot at this fantastic series.

TheIneffableBob4701d ago

R6V was timed-exclusive for the 360 for like a month. The PC version came out a month later.

RedDead4702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

Vegas rocked, despite the glitches, Vegas 2, I dunno why but I wasn't feeling it. Em, Hope a new one will do something great. Really great for Team play anyway, Calypso casino and Attack and defend where perfect for each other.

Nitrowolf24702d ago

That because Vegas 2 was more of a giant DLC packet with barely any improvements.

LOGICWINS4702d ago

^^Yeah, pretty much, but it was 14 bux when my store last had it..so even if it is DLC, thats a damn good deal.

T-K47x4702d ago

RSV1 is one of my favourite games on the PS3 to date, every map was amazing. RSV2 wasn't as good imo I thought the maps weren't as strong but it was still a great game. I can't wait for a new RS title and even with the amount of shooters out atm it will still be amazing.

CleanUP-CharliE4701d ago

LVU Campus FTW :)

Good memories.

AAACE54701d ago

I spent many hours playing Vegas 1. Vegas 2 ended up breaking apart a large group of gamers I used to play with!

Hopefully the new one brings back the fun! I do know that not having Retrieval in the multiplayer of Vegas 2 also hurt it!

subtenko4701d ago

I'd like playstation move support like my other shooters, but NOT kinect support. I do not wanna play the game using kinect. I want a controller with motion so I can sit down if I feel like it as well.

hades074701d ago

This is why I have enjoyed Ubisoft so much this generation, they are not happy with their series getting stagnant and continue to try and improve them unlike some companies *cough* Activision.

otherZinc4701d ago

Forget all the Talk: Is it going to be "CO-OP" like the other Rainbow Six games?

Emilio_Estevez4702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

I really dig this idea.

LOGICWINS4702d ago

This makes me so happy. RB6: Vegas was the first PS3 game I ever owned and introduced me to online gaming. I used to be a beast in that game. I'm buying this one Day 1 for sure.

ShoryukenII4702d ago

This looks so cool. Even if it doesn't have multiplayer (I doubt that), it still looks like it'd be worth $60.

Tony P4702d ago

Ok, that's nice... But why the are they talking about it like it's a new feature in gaming?

It sounds like the same thing RPGs have done for about a decade now.

ForTheFallen4702d ago

Didn't MGS4 do this to an extent too? Hell it even pointed out the lack of morality in video games didn't it?

Cenobia4701d ago

After reading the article it sounds like it is a matter of perspective. You get to be the poor guy that is strapped to a bomb and holding a dead man trigger, and experience what I'm sure must be in the top 10 most horrible experiences.

Then you get to take the role of a person on the other side of the incident and make a decision to kill the person who you just were, or try and save him and risk numerous other lives.

It sounds like those COD4 cut scenes taken up a notch. It could be a great idea, but I hope they aren't just throw away moments.

To give it real emotional impact they should do something similar to Heavy Rain, where you control this guy in his house, walking past family photos, starting to make breakfast when shit goes crazy. Then, after seeing all that you might have to throw his ass off a bridge.

That could be awesome.

candystop4702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

Just get rid of 3rd person view and I'm happy.

edit below:
Oh gosh no! That's what I hated and the main reason I stopped playing. The cover system turned me off because and I to God it's not there again. I want a FPS from beginning to end with no top view or 3rd person anything.

Nitrowolf24702d ago

Why?
I mean if your talking about like 3rd person view the whole game then yeah, but in the past 2 rainbow six its always been a cheat code for third person view. The cover system in third person view is absolutely the whole reason why i continue to play this game

jivah4701d ago

thats what cod is for. rainbow has its own identity and thats partially due to the third person cover mode.

now with that said. im happy another rainbow is in development.. i just wish it has the old system where i can send my guys to take the route i want em to take.. that was pretty fun

candystop4701d ago (Edited 4701d ago )

"thats what cod is for. rainbow has its own identity and thats partially due to the third person cover mode."

This was never a part of RB6 until Vegas and had nothing to do with it identity. Maybe the identity of Vegas byt future games don't need that feature. Gears and UC are 3rd person so go play those.

"i just wish it has the old system where i can send my guys to take the route i want em to take.. that was pretty fun"

I guess I could say the same thing and say it's not part of there identity smart azz. Anybody that's played rB6 before Vegas should know it was a better game back then. Man how I hope they don't listen to Vegas fans this time around.

IcarusOne4701d ago

I hope you're wrong candy. That 3rd person cover is one of the best features of the RB6 line now, and to remove it would seriously undermine the game.

jivah4701d ago (Edited 4701d ago )

um..well this is the present n not the past. everybody i talk to about rainbow mentions the third person cover and how they like that gameplay element over cod.. soo now.. its part of their identity. similar to how killzone 1 didnt have the first person cover but now it does.. its become part of its identity that sets it apart from other shooters

and as far as UC and Gears. well those arent primarily first person shooters with a third person cover system right? yea u fail

n so much for keeping things mature catd1ckk . i never said the second part was part of rainbows identity .. maybe you need to read it again. im clearly mentioning my own wantings for the new game. i been playing rainbow since it came out on dreamcast. and i remember the old system of having to create routes to tell em where to go. n i hope its part of the new one.. soo much for having a brain smart4ss smh

Venjense4701d ago

R6 Vegas had the best cover system to date. My only regret is that it didn't become standard in most other shooters.

The mix of 1st and 3rd views made it work perfectly and avoided that disorienting first person cover view.
