Current shooters not “funny” enough – American McGee

BeefJack: "Modern shooters “take themselves too seriously," American McGee believes, and the current trend for “grumpy space aliens” has “screwed up the fun” to be found in blasting gibs off your opponent in classic games such as Quake.

Bulletstorm is exactly what he needs. Looks cool, is fun and cannot be taken seriously.

Shadows of the damned is a pretty funny third person shooter. That game's dead pan straight forward straight faced delivery of its crass and immature humor is amazing simply because the voice actors deliver each line with such passion and sincerity.

im sorry i didnt know games had to be funny

Undeadwolfy4710d ago

I think its pretty funny how bad Call of Duty has become.

Bad company 1 is funny and Bad company 2 is almost as funny as BC1. Bulletstorm I though had poor humor so I did not laugh.

I can't wait for the same people who like to chirp about how immature and crass Bulletstorm was to start gushing over how awesome Shadows of the Damned is, just because it's Japanese.

When Japanese developers resort to dick jokes, gore, T&A, cheap laughs, and swearing it is somehow sophisticated and ground breaking and completely different. Suddenly those who hate the childish meathead "immaturity" of western games seem to just LOVE it when THE SAMEDAMNED COMPLETE WITH AN ETHNIC STEREOTYPE THING comes from Japan.

Ishi Sato ? Not funny! Not funny at all! Not cool! Bad Clifford!

Garcia F*cking Hotspur? LOLOLOLOLOL!!1! So good! Goichi Suda is super AWESOME!

BulletStorm, Portal 2, there is some humour out there to be found in the genre, but currently, military shooters are the rage and well, humour would just be out of place.

Valve's games usually have humor.

BadCompany series has some humor as well.

Still, I'm waiting for someone to make another sequel for NoOne-Lives-Forever

He must have missed Borderlands.

PooEgg4709d ago

I was thinking the same thing, I love Borderlands!

wallis4710d ago

I think a little bit of humour goes a long way. Stalker had some cute jokes in it despite being a very intense game, and even fear 2 had a couple of little funny audio tapes and emails to read. I will say though that sometimes if done wrongly attempts at humor can be crippling. Anyone remember that fuck wit norton mapes from fear? Eurgh.

LightofDarkness4710d ago

Yeah. I've never wanted to kill a game character so much in my life.

Valvatorez4710d ago

Yeah,he was annoying! I kinda hoped Alma would do me a favour and splatter that idiot.
