Arrested LulzSec Member Officially Charged by Police

The UK teen who was arrested yesterday morning for allegedly hacking several targets, including possibly Sony, has been charged by police.

they are saying that to try and make it look like he didnt play a major role and this doesnt affect them. when the truth probably is that he is a big time player and it is hurting them. they couldnt tweet 'oh fuck! they just arrested our leader and he will get jailtime'

No doubt they were keeping an eye on him after the details were leaked. It's a common technique used to gather evidence, find more charges and if you're lucky, can lead you to other hackers.

It's just that, if it weren't for the hackers themselves painting a red arrow above him, he probably wouldn't have been caught.
Does that mean that these agencies are just fishing in the dark or can they actually catch something big without outside help?

Someone needs to get Dr.Hax on the case.

I agree that it is probably very possible that he would not have been noticed at this time were it not for other's efforts. It is also likely that eventually he would have been found any way, especially given the gloating nature of Lulzsec.

You raise an interesting point regrading the competence of these agencies, something which I think they will struggle with from a public opinion perspective. What does help them however, is the general public's unintentional ignorance of such matters.
