I was going to get it at Christmas anyway so I'm not too bothered.

Dart894707d ago

Wow the same day as Twisted Metal.

Legionaire20054707d ago

and Dark Souls WOW!!! 3 games i reserve coming on the same day thats too crazy.

Focker4204707d ago

Twisted Metal and Dark Souls for me, Rage can wait. The other two I've gotta have day one.

Killzone3Helghast4707d ago

@Focker420

Agreed. Just another shooter so /meh

EVILDEAD3604707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

Gears 3 would have eaten that title ALIVE. Fall is packed as it is, but staying clear of a game like Gears is simply give the game a chance to thrive.

Twisted is different enough and although From Software and Dark Souls will excite the hardcore fans but is still niche, Rage is a big enough title to do well in that slot.

Therealspy034707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

I agree, i think gears definitely played a big part. then again, battlefield 3 might be october...that could be trouble. rage looks awesome though, i'd rather not have to wait.

IaMs124707d ago

No! Battlefield 3 is getting released roughly the same time :(. All the games are being released too close together imo. Way too many in Oct and Nov. More fact its going to hurt my wallet.

No Way4707d ago

Lmao, what is up with your grudge against iD and Rage, dude?

xGet_In_There4707d ago

guys, don't forget, his Uncle works for iD and he's already played the game. He has all the inside stories.

aGameDeveloper4707d ago

I think his uncle is actually Mark Rein (or he IS Mark Rein).

Jamzluminati4707d ago

They worked and slaved my uncle for about 60 hours a week and the game still is not finished. He does not have time for his family or anything. The guy weighed about 300lbs when they started making the game now he weighs a mere 150lbs. When he was home for Christmas he was more suicidal than Kurt Gobang and his wife and kids all they do is cry now. I could understand if the game was an actually success like Metal Gear Solid 4 or GTA: IV but it is not. Another thing is John tried to expose "us" now we are going to expose him for all the frauding that he and iD are doing. Don't **** with the 666.

Guh, this kind of sucks. There's about seven or eight games in November that I want now. Really wish they would learn to spread their games out more.

MidnytRain4707d ago

When I saw the headline I thought, "Yes! It's coming next year!"

Crap... :/

If Gears 3 is the reason they delayed it, then they are retarded. October has Twisted Metal, Dark Souls, and Battlefield 3. Good luck with that.

All which will probably be better than Rage.

SweatyFlorida4707d ago

lol that was a (REALLY BAD) assumption from the guy who made the article. Probably an xbot orz :/

EVILDEAD3604707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

LMAO..the decision to move away from Gears is FAR from 'retarded'.

Battefield 3 isnt until the end of October. Twisted Metal will do well but isn't going to dominate retail and Dark Souls will outdue Demons Souls humble sales but none of those games will have the effect of Rage that Gears would have.

Evil

Son_Lee4707d ago

Why? It's bad to release a new IP when an established franchise is releasing a game in the same month. It's the business aspect of the gaming industry.

Therealspy034707d ago

not when the established franchise is a sequel to a game nobody asked for. for this entire generation i didn't see a single person say "gee, i sure do miss twisted metal." then when it was announced as a ps3 exclusive it suddenly became (just like all ps3 exclusives) the greatest game of all time. rage will outsell twisted metal...guaranteed. in fact, i'd be willing to bet it sells double.

EVILDEAD3604707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

LOL @ you contradicting your self..

First you mentions games that its going against like Twisted Metal, Dark Souls, BF3 and say 'good luck with that'

Then you ask the question why it's bad to release the game against Gears.

Let me explain it to you...

Gears of War 3 is EASILY going to do 3 million plus that first week alone..

The preorders are almost a million 3 months out. Go against a game that will have a frenzied fan fare midnight release and suck up all the media..or release 2 weeks after Gears and 3 weeks before Battlefield.

It's a simple fact that blockbusters suck up retail dollars..ESPECIALLY during non-holiday months. ID is just giving the game the best chance at being successful.and releasing against Twisted & Dark souls gives it a better chance.

Even EA knows that Battlefield wouldnt stand a chance going directly head-to-head again Modern Warfare 3 and are hoping to jump the gun and grab sales two weeks prior to MW3's release.

No matter where you releae in October through November you are up against the big dogs..it'll be intersting how it all shakes out

Evil

Edit @ Therealspy..

I'd agree about your assessment of Twisted Metal (not sure if Rage will double it) but Id has been advertising the hell out of the game..seen the commercial at least 5 times during the NBA finals.

Where as I feel like Sony dropped the ball for not letting Twisted Metal get another shot at the E3 stage.

Rage also has the critics up in a roar since last year's E3 game of the show nod..if the reviews are extremely solid the game could have that Fallout 3 effect and garner a significant fan base.

But if it goes against Gears..Rage would have look like Alan Wake going against Red Dead Redemption..and we ALL know how that turned out

Evil

jetlian4707d ago

gears is a higher threat then any of those games. BF as far as console sales doesn't even topple gears! twisted metal is a shaky series and demon/dark souls isn't that big

Jack-Dangerously4707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

I find it cute that you had to sign "Evil" twice in your below comment.

Indeed if PR of Bethesda were smart the will release the game in August since the only probably A game in that month its DEUS EX a totally different gendre from Rage.Very stupid move by Bethesda and ID.

TheLastGuardian20104707d ago

Seriously?

No respect for Id Software?

No respect for John Carmack? A gaming legend? That's like saying "bah, this Kojima, or Warren Spector game will be crap."

Have respect for the devs.

Convas4707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

This was a BAD move. They pretty much had a good chance against Resistance 3 in September.

Battlefield 3 will rule the roost in October and moving into November would be SUICIDE for a first person shooter, on top of the fact that it's packed to the brim with games.

Ducky4707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

Well, if BF3 takes off, then it would negate CoD... so it might not necessarily be suicide.

Then again, if BF3 does take off, then I don't see why someone would buy another FPS (RAGE) within a month. =/

Too many games.

Redgehammer4707d ago

Its an easy choice for me, since I do not really play the COD's and Battlefields of the world. So Rage is definitely something that I will be buying.

Urrakia344707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Battlefield 3 is releasing in November and not October. Also, RAGE looks like another run of the mill shooter. Not bad but not good; just average.

edit: Just looked up the release and it is indeed releasing in October. My apologies Clizzz.

Urmomlol4707d ago

You mean PUSHING BACK not MOVING UP.

God hire a copy editor.

GrumpyVeteran4707d ago (Edited 4707d ago )

Indeed.

I got a bit confused there.

undercovrr4707d ago

Technically if you think about it, it is Moving up (while that term is used for the opposite situation it still fits). They are moving the date UP, meaning more towards the end of the year. Pushing back should be more towards the beginning of the year. The gaming media got their terminology mixed up cuz it makes more sense the other way

DarthJay4707d ago

No, it doesn't. The move is backwards, not forward. Moving up means you are moving forward. I am pretty sure the usage of these big words was covered in first grade.

Therealspy034707d ago

when you MOVE UP in line...you get closer to where you are going. when you move up on a list...same thing. TECHNICALLY it's not moving in a direction...it's changing it's position in time. but for all intents and purposes moving up means it's coming sooner. it is used incorrectly in this article.

Peppy la Moca4707d ago

LMAO I like how he starts off with "Technically if you think about it", and then proceeds to spew out nonsense. Doesn't seem like he did much technical thinking.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141772d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1771d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1772d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1772d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1772d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1767d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
