E3 2011: Silent Hill HD Collection to be PS3 exclusive, include new voice acting

PSU: While it was announced in a maelstrom of Silent Hill information, Konami hasn't cleared up much about the Silent Hill HD Collection, until now.

Konami has confirmed that the HD collection of Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3, will be remastered on the PlayStation 3 exclusively. Of coarse, this 2-in-1 horror-fest will include the mandatory trophy support, but Konami has stated that both games will come bearing new voice-overs. The inclusion of new voice-acting comes as a surprise, albeit a welcomed one, but it's nice to see Konami try to patch up the game before its release

What about the other article saying it was multiplat? damn, gaming "journalism" these days, not like it bothers me, I'll buy it for my PS3 when it comes out :D

JsonHenry4722d ago

good. It will give me a reason to turn on my PS3 on before UC3 comes out.

malamdra4722d ago

not a choice, it's a must buy, SH2 is a masterpiece, SH3 is close behind

now bring the FFX, X-2 and FFXII collection

I am somewhat concerned. Who is handling the HD remastering anyways? Is it Vatra or Konami? I will lol if this collection sells way better than Silent Hill Downpour.

Weird that, if this is exclusive yet ZOE and MGS collections aren't.

Whitefox7894722d ago

Kojima isn't a fan of exclusive games, I mean look at the FOX engine he's making its going to be multiplatform. Which is actually good for him instead of him making engines from the ground up for one specific console, he can reuse the engine thus making his releases a lot sooner.

Who4722d ago

Love these HD collections. I've never owned a PS2 or Xbox so I'm thrilled to catch up on these great games. My remastered collection started with God of War and then Tomb Raider. This year I'll be getting my hands on Splinter Cell HD, MGS HD, and now this! Awesome!

PirateThom4722d ago

If you like platformers, I would definitely recommend the Sly collection as well.

P_Bomb4722d ago

Even if you like stealth. If you're into the Splinter Cell/MGS HD remakes, Sly is a no brainer. It's basically a stealth platformer with action. Lotsa sneaking past guards, avoiding or losing alerts, gadgets, silent takedowns and even disguises.

CGI-Quality4722d ago (Edited 4722d ago )

It's exclusive.

OT: Since this is my favorite gaming franchise of all time, it was a buy before any announcement!

godsinhisheaven4722d ago

Still don't understand why they would bother finding new voices for the games.

Knushwood Butt4722d ago

Yeah, I'm hyped for this, but if the original voice acting is not there as an option, I'm not buying this.

I have Silent Hill 2 and 3 for PS2, ready to play on my 60GB PS3 with upscaling. I'll stick with that.

jc485734722d ago

seriously, voice acting wasn't really all that terrible for 2 and 3.

godsinhisheaven4722d ago

To have 2 sets of voice acting in the collection is a brilliant idea but KONAMI probably won't do that.

Knushwood Butt4722d ago

Yeah, I can't see any reason at all to re-do the voice acting. I could understand it if there was a problem with the originals, but there isn't.

Just off the top of my head I can't think of a single one in either of the two games that was poor.

Silent Hill 2 - not that many speaking parts, and all I can think of were excellent.

Silent Hill 3 - again, not many characters. I guess if I had to change one it would be the detective guy (sorry, can't remember his name right now), but even so I don't think there was a problem really.

I mostly disagree with Downpour's position. Yeah, the game is not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but is much better than the HD Collection and Homecoming. The main issue is the performance, but that was mitigated by the patches, especially on the PS3. Personally, I put it a little behind Origins and The Room.

Having Restless Dreams as a different entry from Silent Hill 2 is also a choice.

bfrye26201d ago

Normally, we would not consider it a different game (Restless Dreams), but since it had a very different critical reception and had new content, it was allowed. As for Downpour, I would agree, but since that one is subjective, we let him make his case for the placement.

gold_drake201d ago

silent hill 2 is definitely the best one out of those.

for me personally, the whole ritual/cult stuff was always so weird to me in all the other games.

CrimsonWing69200d ago

No disrespect but I put SH2 over 1. 1 is fantastic, but 2 took it all up a level.

bfrye26200d ago

We agree, that is why the writer put it in top place!

100% agree! SH2 is undoubtedly a stone cold classic.

gold_drake363d ago

i played a couple of months ago for the first time.

i agree that its a great survival game, but i think the minute u realise you can "kill" them, its takes alot of the initial fear out of it.
the same thing happened to me in Siren Blood Curse.

but its definitely one of the best games, when you start looking into the lore and the symbolism

1nsomniac363d ago

Never played it. I had moved on from PlayStation since then. So looking forward to the remake. Hope it’s not too cheesy tho.

P_Bomb363d ago

Pyramid Head or Red Pyramid. Which do you guys call him?

Pickledpepper363d ago

I've just brought the silent hill collection for the ps2 and absolutely loving it

Knushwood Butt363d ago

Nice.

I have the games, just no PS2.

Pickledpepper362d ago

I have a ps2 for sale and a n64 lol

how is it after the patches? Aren't there also more to come?

Amplitude749d ago (Edited 749d ago )

Did people not like the Mafia 2 remake? I got so into it. Thought it was amazing. Never played the original.

Some of these are fitting but I can't help but feel like the author just has nostalgia for the original Mafia 2 here. Dmc Collection on PS4 is fiiiiine its just a collection of PS2 games and the PS3 performance was not amazing. The point is to just have the PS2 games for a new gen of people. Crysis Remastered is also totally fine and has been patched and updated to death since launch. The original version essentially ran on one CPU core and they couldn't fix it let alone get that running on console/switch so they had good reason to do what they did to boost interest in Crysis before the Crysis 4 announcement

Lots of way worse remasters out there lol GTA, THPS HD, that Mario 3D All Stars trash, etc

jeenyus749d ago

That's the issue, you haven't played the original.
The new one is slightly better looking but it's bugged af by comparison.

So in essence ... 2020 the year of bad remasters

Army_of_Darkness749d ago

Sounds like a case of quick cash grabs during the pandemic.
