Square 'would be interested' in Final Fantasy VII-2, needs to be 'big budget'

No, sakaguchi was just the producer. Kitase was the man in charge of the creative side of the game. A producer is just that, producer. Sakaguchi hasnt made a FF since FFV.

Sakaguchi is not. He is either a designer, or a producer or a writer. In FFVII he was producer and writer. A producer is a commercial manager, takes care of licensing, contracts, publicity etc etc.

Kitase has been in charge since FFVI to FFVIII. Ito directed FFIX, Then Kitase co-directed FFX with toriyama and nakazato. Ito returned to replace Matsuno in XII.

I like the way ff7(game&movie) was left at , another story means that it could probably go down hill and leave many fans angry @ SE. I say this b/c I don't trust SE to do a good job after seeing ff13 and 14 not to mention the crap they claim about towns and etc during the pass years. To me it seems SE is getting some lazy compare to their old days.

A remake of FF7 would be good long as they don't try to pull a 13 on us.

A remake though? It'd be nice to have events take place after that whole ordeal with Sephiroth. There's plenty of creative room here.. to create an even more immersive story. Well, it would obviously be set after Dirge of Cerebus as that is the latest entry (chronologically) in the Final Fantasy VII storyline.

It had a secret ending featuring Genesis, one of the main characters of Crisis Core. So it would be interesting to see how Genesis' return would effect the world of Final Fantasy VII considering he is strictly not a villain but something else.

Sephiroth's return would be a bit disappointing since he's already returned once before and that was in Advent Children. To be honest, I'm not too sure what the story in a Final Fantasy VII-2 would be about. Both Jenova and Sephiroth are gone, those Sephiroth remnants are gone, Geostigma is gone, the Shinra dissidents from Dirge are gone. There's only Genesis. And technically he isn't supposed to be a bad guy.

So I'm absolutely clueless here.

Eh, why not, but I'd rather see a VII remake first. It's only logical. If they can create a brand new game then a remake would only be easier as they already have the plot figured out, the characters fleshed out and the game's map drawn.

How about a sequel where they take that crazy theory rumor about Rinoa being Ultimecia and the SeeD try to find a way to stop it from happening or how about a prequel where you explore Lagunas past a bit more and the game is set around the time of the sorceress war which ends with Laguna becoming the president of Esthar.

It does not need to be big budget.

They should remake FFVII for the 3DS and PSN: simply replace the 3dmodels with high-resolution 2D sprites (like Disgaea 4) or HD 3d models, and redo the backgrounds. No need to do voice work or any jazz like that.

Then simply release VII-2 in the same style.

Invest the minimal amount to reap the maximum profits: that way everyone is happy.

Besides, does anyone who isn't a 13-year old girl want to see VII in the vein of DoC or Advent Children?

I said that most people like it because it was their first because I've asked fans of FF in other forums (i.e The Escapist) why it is so and I've seen polls and its mostly from nostalgia.

If they are going to remake a FF game they should remake the BEST one. I don't think people would say FFVII is their FAVOURITE without thinking its the BEST one.

The reason why there's more pressure on a FF7 remake then any other game is because it is currently the most popular in the entire fanbase.

It's also my favourite entry in the series however I would love a 3DS remake for Final Fantasy VI too.

As for Final Fantasy IX, I think it was almost perfect the way it was and isn't in need of a remake.
For FFVI, huge amounts of dialogues and script was cut due to space. So a remake is justified.
For FFVII, the graphics and PS1 hardware didn't do complete justice to the huge scale of its story and universe as well as the fact Advent Children gave every FFVII a fangasm.

I was mad as hell and never looked at another Final Fantasy because of that one reason.

if u think about it back then it was the disc could store less than 1GB and that was mostly prerender graphic and video that took up the space so if its realtime that will save alot of disc space and on the ps3 u have bluray so it would easily fit on the one disc

Because Sony owns the publishing rights to the game in the west - it won't happen on Sony's dime. Because SE doesn't want to produce the game for one platform - it won't happen on SE's dime. I think there needs to be some sort of middle ground met here between Sony and SE splitting the profits.
