Heavenly Sword was a good game I will admit(mainly because it was a PS3 exclusive) but DMC is another mans invention. Only that man and his team shall touch it. Almost like Team Ninja but at least Itagaki's members are still there(some of them) and the head of the team is/was his protege. I am going to skip this DMC. Hell I should have skipped four but I was itching for something to play.

I have so much respect for European developers like Media Molecule, but for Ninja Theory is now regarded as one of the most ARROGANT developers around today.They became too ARROGANT too early & it was their early downfall.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of disagrees for this, but whatever, I thought I'd give my 2 cents on this matter.

Heavenly Sword wasn't that great and was a very unresponsive game. Enslaved followed the exact same path and I couldn't bring myself to like it, despite being a huge fan of Journey to the West (which this game is partly based on).

I don't see any reason why I support them, and even less so when I see what they are doing with DMC.

They shouldn't be supported they slated ps3 gamers in a press conference blaming them for having to go multi platform. It was nothing to do with gamers as it was one of the biggest sellers of PS3's launch but still launch titles won't sell much that's a fact and these guys took a swipe at the gamers for it. That sealed there fate for ps3 as for 360 well.. Unless your MGS, FF or GTA you will never make the jump as 360 gamers dont like ex ps exclusive devs.. Sad but true..

While I disagree with some parts of the article I believe it is well written. I haven't touched enslaved yet (I will) and enjoyed Heavenly Sword.

To be honest they lost me when revealing that main character as a pseudo twilight star. Taking a risk as a studio is one thing. But I can't see any justification in recreating a character to this degree. I'd rather they took liberties with the story line or perhaps take a risk by significantly modifying game play into something innovative.

The article mentions the heavy backlash by fans upon this character change. If they refuse to acknowledge that this decision is unpopular then they have no one to blame when it doesn't appeal to many gamers and thus fails to sell well.

Decisions to cater to fans of the series seems like an easy one to make. If it fails they have no one to blame but themselves.

well, and i swear im going to get disagrees when the trolls come a trollin, its an origin story so it doesn't matter what dante looks like when he starts out, point being its an origin story, what matters most is that the end result feels like the dante we know and as a result end dante has more story to it.

after all capcom can only continue making DMC without a straightforward story on dantes character, and without a sequel to DMC2 at some point.

also this dante fits his setting something most people over look. Since people like using inFamous2 as an example, and imo a bad one, does the new cole really? fit his voice actor and setting better then old new cole? i had a friend , who actually is a free runner, tell me that after you get get use to it you can see the old new cole as a free runner himself.

But like i saw saying this dante fits his setting, and timeline seeing as this is before dmc3.

the DMC franchise is known for gameplay, like the article points out, but like i point out you can't continue a franchise like this for long without a good story, hell look at FF with its multiple stories thats lasted pretty damn long, and as the article points out NT is known for just that and capcoms there to help keep the gameplay up to DMC standards.

ironically the article has sumed up what i've been saying for awhile, on here and the capcom-unity forums, since DmC was announced.

PS wasn't there an interview with NT where they sate that as you get deeper into the story you begin to see dante resemble his now-a-days self? surprising no one ever quotes that.

When I heard today, that DmC will run at 30fps and have a cool down time on guns, I came to the conclusion that unless the game redeems itself in some other way, NT and Capcom will not receive so much as a penny from me. As far as gameplay is concerned, I don't recall it being 'glitchy.' Tricky, yes. Rewarding, most definitely. It even managed to implement six-axis controls well

HS demo was nothing but pure garbage and final release was almost exactly like the demo. Compare HS to Uncharted in terms of graphics and you tell me which one looks better. both were 2007 PS3 exclusive but one looked like a PS2 game.

HS CGI trailer was on-par with Uncharted:DF in-game graphics and that says something. To this day I'm still baffled by how you Sony loyalists think the game looks good, I mean the textures can only be compared to vomit. DMC4 a multi-platform game came out almost a year after yet it looked miles better and it played better as well.

Ninja Theory is a company that is half assed. They focus so much on graphics and story but complete forget they are making a VIDEO GAME. Heavenly Sword and Enslaved are pretty much bare bones when it comes to gameplay and technicality. This is why almost all fans for DMC lashed out as NT doesnt have the resume to make the game. The only reason they are developing it is simply because Capcom wants to cut costs. Dont believe me? Why not choose Santa Monica, Incognito, or even THQs Dark Siders team? Same for RE? Slant 6 over any other studio? Evidently this is just a money cash in. NT is one of those companies where you applaud them for their effort, but in your head you are thinking "wow that was awful".

I stopped supporting them after Heavenly Sword(wasnt that great either), and all the smack talk they were doing while making Enslaved. Talked all that trash and release a POS game. Then they turn around a mess up one of favorite series of all time in DMC. They can kiss my A$$. To get support you have to earn it, and they have fallen flat so far. Great article. I don't think Ninja Theory get the praise (and sales) that they deserve for their games - I couldn't put Enslaved down once I started playing, mainly because of its great storyline.

I think DmC will be a true test for Ninja Theory, since they aren't brilliant at gameplay yet they're brilliant at stories, whilst the DMC series has great gameplay yet less great storylines.

Their presentation is great. It's their game design that's mediocre, IMO.

HS was pretty good, but it lacked "gameplay polish" and just plain lacked gameplay content as well. The cutscenes and story were top notch.

The same thing is largely true for Enslaved, although frankly Enslaved had better/more gameplay, but somehow lost some of the theatrical polish in the process (Unreal Engine usage?)

NT is a great example of a dev who is verging on AAA greatness... but hasn't quite got it together yet. I would actually say most of the devs in the industry are in this same position. They are "A", desperately trying to understand how to turn into "AAA".

That is the core base who supported their 1st game. Instead of pissing in their mouths with Enslaved, they should've looked to improve and ADD to the core audience they had captured. But they got greedy, thought multiplat was where it was at, and made a mediocre Enslaved, which I think sold less than HS1.

Ninja Theory squandered the MOST quickly accepted female main character in gaming since Samus Aran & Lara Croft - I have ZERO sympathy for them. The core audience simply loved Nariko so much, but they insulted them by putting a FAKE Nariko in Enslaved to make matters worse.

I almost hope Heavenly Sword 2 goes to a new developer who has the common sense to know the value of the IP they possess when Ninja Theory didn't. To me, they are idiots. HS2 should have been a no brainer.

So far I have Heavenly Sword & Enslaved, but if Heavenly Sword 2 is not up to scratch, & all around better than the last, with deeper, more varied gameplay, I will give it a miss. Enslaved is an awesome game. It starts off a little slow, but once your 1hr or so into it, it becomes very addictive, fun & engrossing. The climbing mechanics are not as controllable (as free roaming feeling), & it feels a little bit on rails, but it kind of suits the fast paced gameplay not having to be frustrated with touchy platformer controls. It feels like the game flows at a nice pace & the challenges come more from figuring out how to quickly get to areas to take out machine gun toting robot guards, as well as lethal turrets. Add to that big, awesome bosses to battle, & kickass graphics, & the game is certainly not meh.

So of there new DMC offers enough & gets good (8+) reviews, then it would be a disservice as a gamer not to at least check it out, no matter whether your that much of a traditional DMC fanboy that hates change. As a gamer first & foremost, I play games for the experience of the game, not because I like a particular artstyle for characters, like DMC's Japanese style Philipino ladyboy with died platinum hair like Dante dons around like hardened action star with a penchant for manly love.
I mean I loved Max Payne & it's artsyle & the whole characters look with the lj & such, & when I saw the new look, i was like wtf, but I wouldn't write off an old game I loved being remade with a new artstyle, & by new developers as well....especially if said developers consistantly pumped out aa to aaa quality games.

If Ninja Theory keep supporting me, as they have from early in ps3's lifecycle with the aaa deserving HS, then I shall keep supporting my gaming needs, which in turn supports NT.

Although I enjoyed the story and characters in Heavenly Sword and Enslaved. I felt the combat was not as satisfying as it could be, underdeveloped combat. I am afraid Ninja Theory is about to mess up the DMC reboot, there is nothing I have read or seen that I like about it and I am a fan of the franchise, that should say alot.

Srsly. If you want to make a new protagonist, don't try to cash in by throwing a popular name on it. Have some balls. I could say this to the new Lara Croft overhaul, as well.

Make something new, since that's what you want to do, and stay away from the characters I love. I understand that maybe Enslaved scared them from doing another new IP, since it didn't do well until it dropped much too low in price.. But this is a sure way to fail and make people angry.

If Ninja Theory is so inept at it that they can not possibly make a great game unless it is only one one platform, then they should sell themselves to Sony or maybe they should bow out of this industry completely. Either way, they certainly should not be developing a new DMC.
