Why Gamers Need to Support Ninja Theory

Jake Weston from gamrFeed - "One of the most controversial moments in gaming for 2010 was the announcement of Ninja Theory's new take on the Devil May Cry series, simply titled DmC. Ninja Theory, developers behind the PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword and the multiplatform Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, drew heavy scrutiny for their drastically different take on Devil May Cry series protagonist Dante. This new Dante, seemingly designed for the Twilight crowd, was universally hated by fans, and both Ninja Theory and Capcom received heavy backlash. However, I'm here to tell you that we as gamers should have faith in Ninja Theory, and that Devil May Cry is in good hands. "

Heavenly Sword was a good game I will admit(mainly because it was a PS3 exclusive) but DMC is another mans invention. Only that man and his team shall touch it. Almost like Team Ninja but at least Itagaki's members are still there(some of them) and the head of the team is/was his protege. I am going to skip this DMC. Hell I should have skipped four but I was itching for something to play.

If they would do what Sucker Punch did with Infamous 2 and listen to the buyers they would not have so much hate. The people who are willing to buy your game day 1 are not fans of this lame emo punk Bante (I will not allow this crap guy to be called Dante). Use some common sense and get first days and once core gamers praise the game (If its good) then then rest will follow.

miyamoto4715d ago

I agree.

I have so much respect for European developers like Media Molecule, but for Ninja Theory is now regarded as one of the most ARROGANT developers around today. They became too ARROGANT too early & it was their early downfall.

And I am also very much against the westernization of Japanese franchises like DMC.

Its a definitely a "sell out" move from Capcom et al. So if this continues then we gamers are screwed.

malamdra4715d ago (Edited 4715d ago )

@axelstone

Media Molecule are from Texas

sobekflakmonkey4714d ago

I'm probably gonna get a lot of disagrees for this, but whatever, I thought I'd give my 2 cents on this matter.

First off, "This new Dante, seemingly designed for the Twilight crowd", I dont see the relation that the new Dante has with the "Twilight crowd", honestly, that statement..childish..doesn' ;t make much sense.

Secondly, @axelstone said, "And I am also very much against the westernization of Japanese franchises like DMC." and "Its a definitely a "sell out" move from Capcom et al. So if this continues then we gamers are screwed.", my single, and very simple, response to that is, Shut up Weeaboo, you don't speak for all of us, its not like "we gamers" ONLY play Japanese games anyways, and if they want a more western approach so be it, give em a chance.

Final note, I like the new Dante, he look's a lot more believable now, and no he does not look "Emo", far from it actually, quite frankly the other Dante's did look a bit silly when you think about it, it's all about the modernization of characters, same things happen with super heroes and were all still happy with them, I could go on about this forever, but I dont really feel like it, but all in all, you guys should wait to actually see the game first before you all cry about how your losing something Japanese...frikin Weeaboo's...

Louis_Guzman4714d ago

Nice, calling somebody a weaboo because they don't want their favorite Japanese franchise turned into some tepid western slop, nice argument kid.

captain-obvious4714d ago (Edited 4714d ago )

Ninja Theory make desent games
they are not the best in the worl but they are OK when it comes to making games

BUT

they got to class and no respect to fans and no dedication
THATS why they suck

Heavenly Sword wasn't that great and was a very unresponsive game. Enslaved followed the exact same path and I couldn't bring myself to like it, despite being a huge fan of Journey to the West (which this game is partly based on).

I don't see any reason why I support them, and even less so when I see what they are doing with DMC.

Thanks, but no thanks!

DeleteThisxx4715d ago

There's no way in hell anybody should support this company. Although I have nothing against the games they create (they are quite good), they have their heads shoved so far up their asses that they don't realize their shit stinks just like everyone else.

When Heavenly Sword didn't do well, they blamed the PS3 exclusivity..

When Enslaved didn't do well, who can they blame?

I'm sorry but their elitist attitude is a huge deterrent for me.

lil Titan4715d ago

i really like Heavenly Sword and i played it almost or more than 5 times but thats not really alot when the game is short. that was the only flaw to the game, and i will buy Heavenly Sword 2 even if it has the same length as the first just because i know its a good game

Jezuz4715d ago

So just cause it's a PS3 exlusive, it's a good game ? What if it's a multiplat, it would be a bad game wouldn't it ?

darkdoom30004715d ago

After what they're doing to dmc. I hope the company rots.

One of my favourite franchises...just buthchered.

Imagine if kojima handed MGS2 to a random western developer, they made MGS2 a reboot and turned snake into raiden. thats essentailly what we have here.

DMC is all about speedy stylish hack and slash action. story, graphics and other stuff take a back seat
NT's games have usually been about story and presentation. with gameplay taking a back seat.

Pollak4714d ago

If gameplay is the only thing that matters, how have they butchered it? We haven't seen any gameplay. All we have seen is a trailer and some art. Me thinks you're mad about the Dante redesign.

SonnyD4715d ago

@malamdra Nooo, they are from Britain. Try researching it helps with your intelligence. ^_^

Jack-H4714d ago

I didn't care for Heavenly Sword. But I absolutely would NEVER want them to stop making games for people that love it.

Leio4714d ago

There are many other good devs to get my support before NT

Vherostar4714d ago (Edited 4714d ago )

They shouldn't be supported they slated ps3 gamers in a press conference blaming them for having to go multi platform. It was nothing to do with gamers as it was one of the biggest sellers of PS3's launch but still launch titles won't sell much that's a fact and these guys took a swipe at the gamers for it. That sealed there fate for ps3 as for 360 well.. Unless your MGS, FF or GTA you will never make the jump as 360 gamers dont like ex ps exclusive devs.. Sad but true..

What I am trying to say is great games survive and do well. If they truly did great games they would have sold millions and wouldn't need our "support".

Pollak4714d ago

There are many great games that don't sell millions. Quality doesn't always equal good sales.

snipes1014714d ago

I gotta say...no matter how you chop it, Dante is a cornball. Who cares what he looks like?

SquareEnixFan4715d ago

I love Ninja Theory for creating Enslaved but I don't think they are the right developer for a Devil May Cry game.

Surfaced4715d ago (Edited 4715d ago )

Get them to make better PS3 versions first.

Godmars2904715d ago

Ninja Theory needs to make games worthy, to some level at least, of the hype they generate around them.

TriangleOffense4715d ago

heavenly sword 2 I will support, enslaved mehhhh, that silly DMC NO

Anderson84715d ago

i'll also support HS2.. i would have supported them more if they hadn't gone on about how crappy their HS sales were and how they made no money and it was in the end a pointless project..

why would i show blind support to a developer that doesn't support me when i buy their games

SilentNegotiator4715d ago

And other than that major meh fighting game on the original xbox, that is Ninja Theory. Heavenly Sword which they've burned their bridges with, the unimpressive in gameplay Enslaved, and DmC with a messed up main character.

Now that's an unproven theory!

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

VersusDMC8d ago

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC8d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos8d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga8d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer8d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6028d ago (Edited 8d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya8d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde8d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP8d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

fan_of_gaming17d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long17d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming17d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10116d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor17d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6917d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming17d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno17d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming17d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

Cacabunga20d ago

It is a good studio.. i really enjoyed their dmc game that i platinumed it.
I did not try hellblade, because it doesnt tell me much.. Enslaved was very mehhh
Heavenly Sword was good not great. Amazing graphics back in the day but so repetitive and not so engaging in the long run.

stoney10120d ago

I really enjoyed Enslaved and Heavenly Sword back in the day. Wish they'd return to that sort of game. Hellblade isn't really for me to be honest. Not saying it's not a good game, I just couldn't get into it.

Popsicle20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

That is fair. I enjoyed Hellblade but can definitely see how it isn’t for everyone.

Would like to see how Heavenly Sword would have turned out if developed today. It’s easy to forget that games like Heavenly Sword were unprecedented and in their infancy.

shinoff218319d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Enslaved has been their favorite game for me. Loved the atmosphere.

1nsomniac20d ago

Heavenly sword was a staggeringly good game!! One of the most memorable of the PS3 generation in my opinion.

Babadook719d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Heavenly sword was good. It had ambitious graphics and as a result the frame rate suffered and as a result the gameplay suffered. But the story was phenomenal. Great acting, especially Andy Serkis as the king.

Jingsing20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

"Microsoft" we all read between the lines. We have seen the exact same thing happen with many of their other acquisitions

InUrFoxHole19d ago

Jesus man! Try reading the article at least.

cthulhucultist20d ago

One thing that pleasantly surprised me, was the Switch port, as back then it was my only console. The graphics were amazing and the artistic design helped a lot to enhance the visuals.I took some really impressive screen shots while playing which I still revisit them from time to time to remind me what a capable developer (QLOC) can achieve with weaker hardware.
