G4TV: Call of Duty Elite Hands-On

G4: "Call of Duty Elite is Activision's newest slice of the Call of Duty pie, and you're finally about to find out what it is. Back in February, Activision announced that they were forming Beachhead Studios, a wholly-owned development studio that would work on Call of Duty products. At the time, we didn't know if that meant new games, DLC, or something else..."

Pixel_Enemy4739d ago

This would be a step in the right direction for the COD franchise if it didn't cost extra. COD has been the same game four times in a row so far and it finally receives some worth while updated features and they ruin it with greed.

Raven_Nomad4739d ago

Elite looks and sounds really cool and interesting. I think many more people are going to open up to the idea when they hear the pricing.

Since the map packs are included I could see Activision offering a subscription for $35-$45 a year. That would pay for the map packs themselves and you get everything else for free essentially.

I am glad everyone has calmed down since last night. People started seeing COD & Subscription without even reading what it was all about, and we know what happens when we ASSuME.

InFAMOUS14739d ago

by charging customers ANY amount of money to track stats is just ridiculous. Black ops has a richer than usual stat system for CoD titles.. Personally, Activision will never get any of my cash. I don't care how many or what games I miss out on. They are worse than the old EA and I never thought that possible....

EdFry4739d ago

Essentially free?
Free doesn't apply when you pay for it, no matter how much you pay or how much you get, that isn't free.

Hopefully this will bomb and they will see the error of their ways, but that is not likely.

BeastlyRig4739d ago

you would pay for stat tracking? O_o

blacktiger4739d ago

first of all, we don't know if Map Packs is included. But if it does, then I think it's well worth it for COD Fans, because say it's $5 times 12 month, it would account 60 bucks, not really worth it if you plan to use that only for black ops or MW3, but if you plan to use more than 3 games, then yes it is worth it !!!!

But I'd rather wait for EA to announce something like that and bring it for all EA GAMES, including BF3, BFBC2, and all EA SPORTS games.

"the service tracks just about every stat you can imagine in the game, and pumps it into the service in the form of charts, graphs, heat maps, and more. It's meant to be a learning tool to help you improve how you play, a way to meet new players, and a new way to compete with challenges and real-life prizes"

Bungie.net already does this AND it is FREE

Pixel_Enemy4739d ago (Edited 4739d ago )

Killzone does something similar too. We will both get disagrees though because the COD fanboys don't know it's true since they only play COD.

Killzone.com has in game clan systems for tournaments and clan wars, stat tracking and KZ2 had top down views of the maps showing where you were killed and replays of matches.

COD Elite seems like it is the same idea but with a little more involved and instead of making their game better for the sake of making it better, they are doing it for $$

KeiserSosay47884739d ago

Killzone.com has awesome stats....I only referenced Bungie though because of the heat maps...wow this is so friggin weak.

Agent_S4739d ago

We don't need you Activision, you need us! It seems you've forgotten that. We created you and collectively we have the power to destroy you. Cut the head off now.

Joe29114739d ago (Edited 4739d ago )

N4G along with any other site could not bring Acti down.

CoD bought in a new breed of 'gamers' that don't realize they are getting scammed with the same pile of sh*t. Gaming isn't what it used to be, its moved on a lot. N4G is definitely a minority in the gaming world.

Edit: But I agree with you in principle Agent!

Agent_S4739d ago

Thanks Joe. But Im reffering to Gamers as a whole, not just N4G. All the gamers who have made CoD what it is can pull the plug on Activision. All we have to do is not buy their products. Then the investers will freak out. Granted they would still have WoW, but last I heard Blizzard was good to their fans. Also I fear your right about the new breed of gamer who gladly give up their parents money.

Joe29114739d ago

Agreed, its a shame that we can't set up a global boycott of Acti products to show them we won't stand for it. But yeah, I bet it won't stop people.

iistuii4739d ago

They've made $3 billion over the series, they don't need anyone ever again....money talks and so does sales, and they've had both. Not saying they are trying it on as they probably are, but they've done what they set out to do and that's to create the biggest selling, most played console shooter of all time. Don't like it, don't buy it, simple really.

Agent_S4739d ago

Some of this is true, but its not that simple. Think about it if this trend gains popularity in the industry, it will take over all of your favorite franchises. Each year you will get less and less of a game and have to pay for the full experience. Is that something you welcome? If not its time to stab CoD and leave it to die. You don't think they "need anyone ever again" umm your sadly mistaken, Activision is a business and is protecting its investors, our money is their sustanance. There are so many people involved, its not like they're sitting there going "We made $3 billion were set for life". This is a huge step in the wrong direction for the industry and for gamers.

iistuii4739d ago

Not forced to buy it, you still play for free, it's just another idea for the addicts to keep them more interested. You can still just buy the game and play it online as usual, like I say it's optional..

Agent_S4739d ago

Dude I completely understand its optional. Im just saying as a gamer this is bad news for the future of games. Im not going to buy this, just like I did'nt buy CoDBlops. Im taking issue with Activisions arrogance and the possibility of seperate "premium services" in games becoming standard. Do you get what im saying?

blacktiger4739d ago

You know I just realize, this is just a stats, if DLC is not included. If that's the case, again ACTIVISION making money that is something free on all GAMES! Sure it looks advance but give me a break!

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5095d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905095d ago (Edited 5095d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5095d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5095d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495095d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5095d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5095d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
