Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell Movies Coming From Ubisoft

Just two weeks after announcing Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the production house has already prepped some of Ubisoft’s best properties for feature films. Variety spoke with studio head Jean-Julien Baronnet and VP of international marketing Jean de Rivieres, who said that UMP is currently looking at Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon for possible movies.

Man that would be so great, to see Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed in the theaters. Especially Assassins Creed since the story is better than Splinter Cell.

Hell if you watch the show The Borgias you pretty much got the whole cast of villians in Assassin's Creed 2 and brotherhood.

@Quagmire

They even got a few assassins on the show but they work for the Borgias.

aCasualGamer4735d ago

Will watch that show, is it any good?

theonlylolking4737d ago

Both games can be made into great movies but it might not turn out that way.

Active Reload4737d ago

We can only hope they can afford to put their movies up and beyond SyFy channel levels of production.

If it's done anything like the short movies were done for ACII, I'm sold. Seeing as though Ubisoft are making the movie themselves, at least we guaranteed it will stay true to the spirit of the games.

Well, I'm hoping anyway!

Lets get back to reality. Show me one good movie that based off of a video game IP. Lets not forget people that is was Ubisoft that gave their movie rights to Uwe Boll so don't put too much trust in them.

That's exactly why they created this division: to handle things themselves. Have you seen Lineage? For a (live-action) movie made by a game publisher and a digital FX studio alone, it's pretty well done and the player can really feel the connection with the game (e.g. You see in the last episode why the hidden blade was broken at the beginning of the game which was not explained in it).

The_Nameless_One4737d ago

I have seen Lineage and frankly I didn't think it was that good. It was ok as short vignettes for hyping AC2 but I don't think it'll be better as a full feature. Gaming companies need to stop whoring their gaming to Hollywood.

Don't forget that when making a full feature movie you can't just rely on the gamers as your main source of revenue.

When will you decommission this new one? I’m only asking so I can be happier by not buying it at full price.

The dog Chorizo from FAR CRY 6 has wheelchair legs, so is hardly a decommissioned pet. In fact very useful for digging up dirt.

Historic Eras that Video Games Need to Explore

Xfire writes "Worldbuilding is a crucial part of any story. It's not an easy task to create a believable setting with its own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations and then weave a story into the said setting. Luckily, storytellers and video game writers don't always need to create complex settings when we've got history books as thick as Big Chungus.

Historical eras make a fabulous setting for video games. They've already got the world-building nailed, complete with their own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations. Honestly, I don't think I need to justify the fact that historical eras make an amazing setting for video games. If you don't believe me, just go ahead and play the Ghost of Tsushima or any of the Assassin's Creed games."

The first crusade would be pretty sweet. I’d probably enjoy any of those on your list if they were done respectfully. Like not some dork in Portland making a Russian Revolution game.

Benin Empire, Far East, Central America. Games are pretty biased toward Europe, North America, and the Middle East. There is a very big world out there.
