L.A. Noire Optimized for Data Install, Requires Huge Amount of HDD Space

For those who are looking for a smooth experience on the Xbox 360 version of L.A. Noire, installing the game’s data is the way to go. Installing all three discs will take up to 20GB of space as each of the discs are at 6.6GB. Following the successful data installation, players can notice that the game loads faster, lessen the in-game graphics pop-up and the screen tearing.

You don't have to install all three discs either; you are not going to be playing all three discs at the same time.
Just install the one you're currently playing on and delete it later if space is an issue for you.

I have a 250GB HDD in my PS3 that I got 3-4 years ago and for £40 or less I could get a 640GB these days.

Secondly dvd discs do not have huge amounts of padding that blu ray has in order to access the data at the same rate as dvd as blu ray is slower.

Thirdly 360 owners get to install the whole game to the hard drive with reduced loading times.

Lastly PS3 games load hell of a lot slower so I rather spend 30mins installing than 3hrs of loading on the PS3.

WTF where did you get this? i got L.A Noire on ps3 and 1 gb installing it only tooke me 3 min and there is few loading that take less than 3 sec.

No. As with FF13 they scored it the same. If a multiplat game on 360 is out performed by the PS3 version, it gets scored the same. If the game performs better on 360, then they will take some points off PS3 version. That's how the video game media rolls. Hypocrites to the end. Almost any game will perform better after an install. But the key here is that it is OPTIONAL on the 360 and MANDATORY on the PS3.

And 360 owners only mock the PS3 for mandatory installs after PS3 fanboys make disc swapping out to be the biggest inconvenience possible, while you could swap discs one hundred times in the time it takes for one of the PS3's mandatory installs to run its course.

Me too-I only wish more games on PS3 would allow for a full install. I've got used to installing stuff from my PC days and if it helps performance and cuts down on disc use, console wear and tear then all the better. I've been installing everything I can for 360 for years anyway because one of mine used to scratch the odd disc too.

20 gig might seem a lot but if you have the space just allow it for now, give yourself a sarnie and a brew while it's installing and delete the file after you max the game. I don't know why everyone's got so hot under the collar as , even so, the pereformance difference is, like it always is, minimal. We've been fooled into thinking there are a lot of games with meaningful differences between the versions because of sites like LoT and DF(who rely on us assuming this to exist BTW so they're always under pressure to find a winner, bad motivation imho)and, n truth, they go over things with a microscope and the differences are only worth noting on a handful of games and even then not al of those are bad enough to warrant a change from your preferred console, not really.

I can understand a warranted complaint of say a downgrade in resolution, extreme lack of textures etc...but these differences are minor...and disc swapping isn't really that big of a deal, it takes 10 seconds...ok it's a little annoying but not enough to ruin an experience.

scroll up on the game tab and I think under game data utility you will see all the games installed on the system just hit triangle and delete whichever you dont want.

Take Yakuza 4 for example. That was pretty much a high-res PS2 looking game, yet I enjoyed it immensely. If it was a full blown PS3 graphical game, it would not have made any difference, as the gameplay is the same.

I'll be getting the PS3 version for the extra DLC, but those that wonder why some people would opt for the 360 version even if they own a PS3 as well. There are some people out there that prefer the 360 controller a lot more and adds to their enjoyment of the game.

I myself enjoy the 360 controller a little bit more, but it doesn't out-weigh the free extra content, other people are different.

Controller makes a world of difference to some.

I'll probably get disagrees, but am I the only one that doesn't notice any graphical difference between versions, like ever? Both the PS3 and 360 can handle beautiful things, and deliver them to me.

I'll install, since I install every game regardless just because I have way too large a hard drive for my cheap booty, so it makes me feel better. But, games really don't take long to install from my experience, and I've downloaded every game I've put into my new 360, so I've had a bunch of experience. 1disk x 3 won't be all that much longer. Plus, for 360 owners, you can do that install at any time. After you're done playing for the night, for instance. For PS3, the mandatory install makes you wait before the game. So, meh.

Honestly, the ONLY game I've really experienced serious framerate issues in was Fable 3.

I don't care for the differences and I don't even look for them, as I am too busy playing the game, then to look at pixels.

These 'differences' are only used for fanboy wars, but in the end, makes no difference when playing.

If Lot/FD need both versions running side by side and programs to detect tearing and FPS issues what chance of us noticing without them? These differences are just the result of trying to get the games as close as possible across two systems and are virtually never worth changing your normal choice over. It's official! The PS3 version does NOT look like the crappy screenshots people are posting around on XBox forums. The PS3 version looks very crisp and believe it or not, the XBox version is the one missing shadows in a lot of areas.

Also, the cut-scenes are identical on both. They're probably FMVs.

I dont have a HDD on my 360, so i used a 8GB thumbstick and it works super fast when loading and no in game texture loading, even the pause menue map i desplayed with no delay!
i played the entire first disc of the dvd drive, and then allot of people told i should instell only the disc i'm using on a thumbstick(no need to instell all dvd's, only the one your using)
and i did.
Before the instell even the map would take a few seconds to load, but now its super fast with the loading screens down to ten-tweny seconds insted of a minute and more, plus no pop-ins at all(from what i played).
I didnt noticed any screen tear even playing from the drive!

They're not identical. I've heard that BS from people like you and even my real life friends, who know nothing about the consoles outside the games. Sony and Microsoft didn't have the same R&D teams did they? The same designers and manufacturers? The same developers? No each machine was created in each of Sony and MS's separate visions.

The Blu-ray drive, as "slow and expensive" it might be has always given developers the freedom and never restricted their development. Whereeas, DVD9 has time & time again put developers under pressure. How is it, that the most graphically/content-intensive games have utilised Blu-ray?

Sony charges developers more royalties than Xbox? Well duhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Any new format will have a higher charge of royalties. I guess we should just stagnate our technology though and trust in good ol' DVD9 forever? -.-

As far as the 360 being easier to develop for, how is that relevant in terms of how to build a better game? If the developers had pulled their finger out earlier in this generation and started leading development on PS3, the benefits would've come sooner for both the studios and PS3 gamers.

360 developers might have more available RAM to work with, but the PS3 has the Cell processor (with its multiple SPUs) which edges out any advantage the 360 has in terms of development.

And we are only seeing this in hindsight. Does that not tell you anything?

Performance of the two consoles is actually pretty close. You can claim one is better than the other all day, but realistically we need sites like Lens of Truth to tell us which is better. Most gamers can't tell on their own.

Blu-ray has gotten much cheaper the last 5 years both in hardware and disc production costs. The only thing it does today is cost Sony a little more money on PS3 production. Disc cost is almost the same as DVD now.

Royalties are not fixed. Sony can charge more or less than Microsoft depending on their relationship to the developer/publisher and how much they want the game on their platform. This is one of the ways to buy exclusives without cutting a fat check up front.

PS3 exclusives. I get so tired of hardcore gamers beating their chest to the list of first party exclusives on the PS3. My best advise to any hardcore PS3 gamer is to buy them instead of brag about them. Nobody buys every exclusive game and contrary to popular belief they aren't given away as gifts to the most loyal users. Having more exclusives means you can have a wider audience. By catering to a greater variety of customers you can sell more consoles. If you look at software to hardware attach rates, PS3 users aren't buying games at a rate that is relative to the amount of exclusives offered. They are buying the same amount as Xbox, just spread across more titles.

Hmm.. that really don't make sense. Developing first to suprior platform might make the game too complicated to port to weaker one..

For example, let's make a game to PC, and after that let's port it to consoles, and results? Propably inferior version atleast from technical point.

I always installed my games on HDD with X0. It makes them run so much better. I installed Lost Odyssey too, which was 4 discs, and it tooked even more space, but with 120 gig hdd there really isn't need to save the space. Tought not everyone has that big hdd..

But these artcles are a bit funny, ofcourse it will take huge ammount of space to install 3 dvd game to the hdd, duh. For example Heavy Rain takes a bit over gig as mandatory installation, and over 4 gigs as savegame, totalling about 6,5 gigs, that'ssomething that I would wonder more..

Again, this is not a problem, but the thing is, you can delete the game installations, and install them back when you want, but to just keep 6,5gigs in hdd to not lose your savefile is a bit downer.

Personally, I would love to have an OPTION for PS3 to install your games to the HDD, alongside with maybe somekind of cd-key system, that the game would not need a disc to run, but install would be a good start. I would definitely install games that I play regularly online, like BFBC2 for example..

I want achievements, I want to chat with my friends while I'm playing, and I couldn't imagine using the PS3 controller, with it's terrible triggers and awkward analog stick placement, to play a game like this. I only bare through that crap when I have no other choice and the game is exclusive to the PS3, like this game was at one point.

Xbox 360 all the way for me on this one.
