L.A. Noire Optimized for Data Install, Requires Huge Amount of HDD Space

For those who are looking for a smooth experience on the Xbox 360 version of L.A. Noire, installing the game’s data is the way to go. Installing all three discs will take up to 20GB of space as each of the discs are at 6.6GB. Following the successful data installation, players can notice that the game loads faster, lessen the in-game graphics pop-up and the screen tearing.

From IGN on XBOX review page at the end
"The Xbox 360 version has a few performance issues. While both versions have occasional framerate issues, L.A. Noire on X360 has more notable problems. It's not enough to take away from the game, but if choosing between the two, PS3 has fewer technical issues. "

From Giant Bomb review
"Having spent a lot of time with both versions of L.A. Noire, the PlayStation 3 game is the clear-cut winner. Both versions of the game look fantastic, but there were a few instances of painful frame rate drops and objects drawing in too slowly on the Xbox that didn't exist on the PS3. Also, the shadows look a bit more jagged. This is splitting hairs since, both games look good enough that you should just get the one on the platform you prefer, though the PS3 also has the added benefit of being on a single disc to the Xbox's three, and includes an exclusive downloadable case"

@below no need to be extreme lol it is not such a big deal but people that have both systems should pickup ps3 version

aCasualGamer4736d ago

Seriously????

"Installing the game on Xbox 360 will result in a total size of 20GB as each of the discs contain about 6,6GB"

That is the only way to get a smoother performance that still doesn't match the PS3 version?

Why are we going backwards this gen? (atleast for the 360 owners) Who in their right mind buys the 360 version when they have both PS3/360.

*hmm let me think, install 20GB and wait ages or just get PS3 version and get better performance without install*

Talk about disappointing times for 360 owners.

If anything this is just more proof of new Microsoft hardware announcements. They have been holding this gen back too much now.

jizzyjones4736d ago

Its not that bad for 360 owners, a few years ago it was a ps3 exclusive so the fact there getting it at all is great for them.

SixTwoTwo4736d ago

And here we go again making mountains out of molehills with multiplatform games :/

Convas4736d ago

Ummm, you don't HAVE to install idiot. You can run the game immediately unlike the PS3 version which has a 1.3GB Mandatory install.

Highlife4736d ago

I completely agree with SIXTWOTWO when It comes to multiplats. You can find a thing here a pixel there. Who cares they are almost always the same. There are the limited few that are very bad ports but come on.

sack_boi4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

You don't have to install all three discs either; you are not going to be playing all three discs at the same time.
Just install the one you're currently playing on and delete it later if space is an issue for you.

EDIT:
Bla bla bla... "Lazy devs"... "only play exclusives..."

THILLREBORN4736d ago

@Clizzz
I'm interested to know how you got the game early since it doesn't come out until tomorrow...just saying your full of it. Only specific review sites got it early, most reviewers not attached to the biggest sites get there copy today. So again I ask the question how did you get the copy earlier because I think your full of it but I'm just saying what we are all thinking.

Convas4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Thillreborn: Are you stupid? Didn't you read the article that clearly outlined that the PS3 had a mandatory install?

Are you also not aware of the fact that you have the choice to run any disc on 360 straight from the box or install it fully?

Oh right, you didn't and you aren't. You decided you just simply didn't like what I had to say about your precious PS3 and spouted off like a moron.

Here you go, http://www.justpushstart.co...

I already bought this for PS3 (PSN is Convas) so this is real UNBIASED talk. Do some simple research before you end up looking like a fool son.

No Way4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Lotta people get copies early.. nothing new. Not supposed to but it happens.
But, it doesn't really change anything he said, if he has the game or doesn't.

jack_burt0n4736d ago

Clizzz its not a mandatory install, it installs in the background like most ps3 games.

the 360 version is a mess, low framerate, 3 discs, less content, just accept it and shut up.

Active Reload4736d ago

If I had a PS3, this would be the only multiplat Id get for it, lol.

aCasualGamer4736d ago

I'm sorry if my comment made it seem i was bias towards any console. That was not my intention, instead i wanted to let you guys know that it sucks for fellow 360 owners who wanted almost same quality as PS3 version but if they want that then they'll have to install 20GB of data????

That's what i'm angry about. Devs screwing gamers. What fu***ed up dev in their f****ed up little mind said "hey lets give them the option to install a... wait for it... 20GB(!) data file for smoother performance.

THAT IS UTTER BUUULL!

Now 360 gamers will have to put up with the same thing PS3 owners had to put up with for ages.

^^ THAAATS ^^ what i'm disappointed with!

Active Reload4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Dude, this isn't Crysis, lol. You said it yourself, you're butthurt over 5 years of sub-par ports. I guess you feel vindicated, but you're basically a troll and give PS3 gamers a bad look. And you try to act like you care for 360 gamers, smh, you've gotta be kiddin' me. Your first comment was fine, but your next one should've been kept to your chest. Seriously though, it's just video games, lol--relax.

aCasualGamer4736d ago

Buddy, i am no troll. If speaking my mind about how devs screws us over is trolling then i'm guilty. But don't think for a sec that i'm taking sides over which console is better or worst. I'm simply saying that 20GB of download option so we can get good performance is bull... no matter what console or version the game is on.

You are speaking the truth when you say, this is no Crysis, and i know what you mean. But still... Games should be screentearing-free and smooth, since we are 4-5 years into this gen they have no excuse as to why these consoles are hard to develop for. And it's not like L.A. Noire is graphically advanced so that the consoles are sweating. It's basically GTA with interactive cutscenes.

I can see now that my comment may unintentionally be viewed as troll comment, for that i apologize as it was not my intent.

No matter how you look at it, 20GB is bull, even if it's optional.

HolyOrangeCows4736d ago

That's just plain sad. You shouldn't have to install SIX POINT SIX freaking GB just to fix those performance issues.

And the IGN and GiantBomb reviews just go to show how ridiculous those shop'd NeoGoof "comparison" fakes were.

Threesix4735d ago (Edited 4735d ago )

You buy the 360 version over PS3 when you have more friends on XBL and can talk to them over cross game chat when they're playing a different game which is what I take into consideration when I'm faced with a cross platform purchase decision.

RedDevils4735d ago

lot of butthurt 360 fanboy here, well it good for the neutral :)

kyl2774735d ago

This is why microsoft should do a what PS3s and PCs do and let people install their own HDDs, this way a 20GB install would be no worry at all.

I have a 250GB HDD in my PS3 that I got 3-4 years ago and for £40 or less I could get a 640GB these days.

SuperSaiyan44735d ago

Firstly it was a PS3 exclusive so thats another Sony exclusive gone to the Xbox.

Secondly dvd discs do not have huge amounts of padding that blu ray has in order to access the data at the same rate as dvd as blu ray is slower.

Thirdly 360 owners get to install the whole game to the hard drive with reduced loading times.

Lastly PS3 games load hell of a lot slower so I rather spend 30mins installing than 3hrs of loading on the PS3.

anti-gamer4735d ago (Edited 4735d ago )

@ SuperSaiyan4

"Firstly it was a PS3 exclusive so thats another Sony exclusive gone to the Xbox."
and dont forgot sony got agent as exclusive for l.a noire going multi.

"Secondly dvd discs do not have huge amounts of padding that blu ray has in order to access the data at the same rate as dvd as blu ray is slower."
i kepping hiaring that since 2007 and ppl filld to prove that go play games on ps3 such as uncharted 1&2, infamus, killzone..etc.

"Thirdly 360 owners get to install the whole game to the hard drive with reduced loading times."
are you Tring to make that is good thing?

"Lastly PS3 games load hell of a lot slower so I rather spend 30mins installing than 3hrs of loading on the PS3."
WTF where did you get this? i got L.A Noire on ps3 and 1 gb installing it only tooke me 3 min and there is few loading that take less than 3 sec.

DatNJDom814735d ago

But isn't installing games bad. At least that's what I heard from the xbox camp everytime a PS3 game has to install.

On topic: installing is the way to go 360ers. If its going to make the game experience better for you guys then I don't see why installing 20 gigs into your hard drive is such a bad........ oh wait 4gig hdd...... I kid I kid. Install the damn game and enjoy the hell out of it fellaz/ladies. Very good game.

well I doubt the xbox owners will go out and buy a ps3 for a multiplat game

it is optional tho right ?

MasterCornholio4736d ago

Well looks like 360 fanboys got severly owned with the BS screenshot comparisons. I always tell fanboys to wait until the games out but will they listen? No they dont they assume it will be terrible on the PS3 because its a multiplat and looks like they were proven wrong. Anyways both versions are great but if you own both consoles the PS3 one is the one to pick up.

MariaHelFutura4735d ago

Out of curiousity, did they score the 360 version lower than the PS3 version?

DatNJDom814735d ago (Edited 4735d ago )

No. As with FF13 they scored it the same. If a multiplat game on 360 is out performed by the PS3 version, it gets scored the same. If the game performs better on 360, then they will take some points off PS3 version. That's how the video game media rolls. Hypocrites to the end. They make it hard to believe that they are not biased.

M-A-R-S-H-A-L-L4735d ago

Well, I was getting this for the PS3 anyway.

Vherostar4735d ago

The main point here is 360 needs install for better performance?? I wonder what spin the fanboys will try with this after constantly trying to rib ps3 owners about installs.

YodaCracker4735d ago (Edited 4735d ago )

Almost any game will perform better after an install. But the key here is that it is OPTIONAL on the 360 and MANDATORY on the PS3.

And 360 owners only mock the PS3 for mandatory installs after PS3 fanboys make disc swapping out to be the biggest inconvenience possible, while you could swap discs one hundred times in the time it takes for one of the PS3's mandatory installs to run its course.

NukaCola4736d ago

I always install regardless of console or game. I just think it runs smoother. Then when I max it out and am ready to move on I delete the data. Too simple.

lh_swe4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

I always install on my 360 because otherwise it makes such a racket XD

OT- Sucks, but then again if I only had a 360 I wouldn't have cared too much about this, it'll still be an awesome game irregardless.

mastiffchild4735d ago

Me too-I only wish more games on PS3 would allow for a full install. I've got used to installing stuff from my PC days and if it helps performance and cuts down on disc use, console wear and tear then all the better. I've been installing everything I can for 360 for years anyway because one of mine used to scratch the odd disc too.

20 gig might seem a lot but if you have the space just allow it for now, give yourself a sarnie and a brew while it's installing and delete the file after you max the game. I don't know why everyone's got so hot under the collar as , even so, the pereformance difference is, like it always is, minimal. We've been fooled into thinking there are a lot of games with meaningful differences between the versions because of sites like LoT and DF(who rely on us assuming this to exist BTW so they're always under pressure to find a winner, bad motivation imho)and, n truth, they go over things with a microscope and the differences are only worth noting on a handful of games and even then not al of those are bad enough to warrant a change from your preferred console, not really.

lh_swe4735d ago

@mastiffchild - Yeah, people make way too big of a deal of comparisons, I mean how important is +2 FPS? 3% less screen tear? Slightly less Jaggies?
I can understand a warranted complaint of say a downgrade in resolution, extreme lack of textures etc...but these differences are minor...and disc swapping isn't really that big of a deal, it takes 10 seconds...ok it's a little annoying but not enough to ruin an experience.

People need to stop whinning.

MGRogue20174736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

"When it comes to a multiplatform game where the PS3 is the lead platform, the counterpart is always the inferior version. With L.A. Noire coming out on the Xbox 360, expect some graphical glitches and hiccups but it can lessen via the data installation."

Trolling for hits, much?

How well each version of L.A Noire or any multi-platform title performs & looks really all depends on the developer's skill at cross platform development.

MightyMark4274736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Lol how is it trolling when it's a fact? Have you played both versions? Doubt it. JPS doesn't need to troll for hits ;)

JPS played both versions and they know what they're talking about

WetN00dle694736d ago

I doubt these guys have. Im pretty sure they only looked at other reviews instead of actually taking their time and playing both versions. Anyways im still getting the 360 version......since its too late now to change it to the Ps3 one.........lol amazon is already prepping my shipment....

InLaLaLand4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

I think installs (mandatory or optional) are worth it most of the time, it eases some of the pressure off the laser/lens.

MGRogue20174736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Quieter gaming & faster texture streaming as well

InLaLaLand4736d ago

I definitely agree, although that's not the case for Just Cause 2 and RDR for me on my 40gb PS3 which they sound loud. Just Cause 2 has a 1gb install and RDR 500mb install on the PS3.

BLAKHOODe4736d ago

Mandatory installs are KILLING my 250 GB HDD. I've had my PS3 for less than a year and I already have less than 100 GB left due mostly to various rental installs. I haven't taken the time to figure out how to delete some of them. Anybody know how?

InLaLaLand4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Try formatting the whole system (back up your save files) or delete the game files for the games that you don't play.

Ju4736d ago

Oh please. Don't say that. No need to reformat. 'Game Data', delete what you don't need. See the guy below.

ksense4736d ago

scroll up on the game tab and I think under game data utility you will see all the games installed on the system just hit triangle and delete whichever you dont want.

SuperStrokey11234735d ago

What all do you have installed... seriously to have 150 gigs of data installed is bonkers...

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

It's worth playing LA Noire is one of my favorite Rockstar games. But I would also check out pawnshops or thrift stores if you want the game dirt cheap. Someone may have been dumb enough to dump the game.

Baffles me when people have these opinions about acclaimed games 😂

RhinoGamer88132d ago

100% agree... not perfect, but an engaging/refreshing experience.

sagapo132d ago

Agree, at time of release those facial expressions were amazing! They still hold strong even today imo.
The game on its own was good. Something fresh, but sidequests were a bit meh after a while.

Nacho_Z132d ago

I picked it up on sale recently, going to play it next summer. I'll get more out of it this time, first time around I treated the open world like it was GTA and goofed about, whereas now I'll play it with more respect. RDR2 has trained me well.

I also hadn't read Raymond Chandler at the time so presumably that'll add another layer of enjoyment too.

1nsomniac132d ago (Edited 132d ago )

Absolutely stunning game. So underrated. Played through it again last year and it still stands up so well. Like many of rockstars games it’s actually a far better experience on PC. I didn’t enjoy it as much on console. Completed it at least 3 times on pc.

The rumours of a sequel are awesome news despite the fact I think Rockstar are now the shell of the company they once were.

SyntheticForm132d ago

Team Bondi made a hell of a game.
