Neowin has an in-depth article on the ups and downs of the PS3 and what Sony has done to combat the various issues it has had - "It has now been over 3 weeks since the PlayStation Network was taken down by Sony due to a hacker incursion that has made headlines worldwide. The loss of personal data, the potential leak of credit card data, the lack of security and seemingly slow response from Sony has gamers, developers and privacy experts alike all calling for blood.
There's talk of developers abandoning Sony's platform entirely due to losing a lot of revenue and retailers aren't exactly making a case for consumers to stick with the PS3 as opposed to the competition.
Factor in that the Xperia Play doesn't seem to be shifting games and things are looking pretty bad for Sony. Is this the end of the PlayStation 3? Can Sony recover from this any time soon, if at all? Well, if any company can come back from the brink, it's Sony - and history will show you why."
A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.
I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.
I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons
I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.
Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.
At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath
I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.
Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.
Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.
This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.
cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Before anyone asks, I wrote this. I genuinely think its pretty fair throughout and most people think it's a great read. However by all means, any feedback is welcome.
sony will always bounce back. they always have and always will. for every down that theyve had since the ps3 launch, they always had a positive to counter it. it will be no different this time with the whole psn issue. sony isnt the first company to be hacked and have personal data stolen from them and it definately wont be the last.
this should be a lesson to the users to be more careful next time and not put 100% responsibility in the hands of one company. there are simple security measures a user can take to make him/herself more protected.
For me the last few weeks on ng4 have been more entertaining than the 3 and a half years i owned a playstaion 3 just classic thanks guys i appreciate it.
Simply put...sony has hardcore fans. Doesn't matter what happens to the ps3, they will be there. Exclusives have failed to meet high expectations and still they boast highly of them where similar situations on the other console would be considered a failure. Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, Fable 3 would be an example of a failure since they averaged 8's. But that's not the case with games like KZ3 or GT5. Gt5 has 800 ps2 cars??? OMG TEH BEST GAME EVAR! SOCOM averaging under a 70%??? Still best tactical shooter ever! Motorstorm and DC Universe Online are other sony exclusives that have failed to deliver but they still use them to post on their "big" exclusives list. No matter how bad they are.
The best comeback Sony could do, would be to absolutely hammer out every great PSone title onto PSN (even updating some with improved HD graphics). So these steps would kick ass & make PSN waaaay better than both Live & Wii online.
1. PSone classics (riddle PSN with the masses of PS1 games)
2. PStwo classics (announce & start releasing PS2 back catalogue & also spruce up the graphics & add online play (imagine the Timesplitters series with improved HD visuals & online competative play)
3. Get more indie developers onboard with the whole P.U.B. development & publishing dead Sony had going
4. Make bigger 3rd parties more lucrative deals to put there d/l titles on PSN. It seems Live is getting a bit more quantity in regards to d/lble games & content.
5. Patch into PSN the cross game chat & custom soundtracks that everyone (mainly 360 fanboys) harps on about. Although, I must admit cross game chat would be something I'd appreciate & use.....custom soundtracks not so much.
6. Get existing games collections from Neo Geo, Sega & the like going a bit better, more consistant & often. Like keep hammering out Sega's back catalogue of hits onto PSN, & cut out the crappy ones in favor of all the greats from Master System to Dreamcast.
