Is RAGE the successor of Borderlands?

Is there any hope for Borderlands fans waiting for sequel? Yes.... RAGE.

I can see the resemblance, but honestly Rage looks like the mean cousin of Borderlands with no sense of humor.

joydestroy4739d ago

main cousin? you mean big daddy? lol

Rage looks superior in every way. oh, and i bet voice chat will work great on the PS3.
btw, is that STILL broken on the PS3 version of borderlands? rofl

BeOneWithTheGun4739d ago

As long as there is no CS I am fine. God, I hate the cartoon look.

Venoxn4g4739d ago

in "Looks" maybe.. but in gameplay - we still don't know.. need to wait untill rage will come..

TruthSeeker4739d ago

I didnt rele like Borderlands, got boring quick.

Christopher4739d ago

Yeah, similar setting and gameplay concept, but really not the same.

1. Borderlands is more of an RPG, with skill trees and different "classes"

2. Borderlands is heavily focused on group-based play.

3. Borderlands loot is also heavily based on the diablo-esque model of random loot.

4. Borderlands world is also heavily based on the diablo-esque concept of respawning opponents after loading/over time.

Both focus a lot on a variety of weapons, but Rage's seem more focused on specific types with modifications while Borderlands took a ton of baseline concepts and randomly applied other features to them and gave them to you randomly. Rage puts this sort of customization more in the hands of the gamer rather than a die roll.

Still looks awesome though.

DavidMacDougall4739d ago

Looks good but this whole trying to fit it on the 360's old DVDs make me paranoid, feel like its gonna be full of loading screens.

I don't really think they are similar. Yeah the world is similar but that's about it.

Also why do they play it up like there is no hope for a Boarderlands 2? Just because pitchford hasn't talked about it yet doesn't mean they are not making it. The game sold a crap ton it's gonna get a sequel. It's just gonna take awhile and right now they are focusing on Duke. I would bet we will hear something on a new Boarderlands soon.

Borderlands sucked Fallout was alot better

Hopefully Rage won't suck if you play it alone.

Christopher4739d ago

I've been very impressed with the last two gameplay videos. Check out the BethesdaSoftworks channel on YouTube if you haven't seen them.

I played Borderlands by myself he entire time. I occasionally played with some friends once I got the DLC packs, but for the most part I always played by myself and I loved every minute of it.

vickers5004739d ago

I played through the campaign once by myself (none of my friends had it at the time) and enjoyed every minute of it as well, and I had a blast.

Then my friend got it and we played it probably like 2 or 3 times through + playing through all the dlc.

Very fun game, definitely one of my most played games this gen and probably my favorite game of this gen (can't decide between Bioshock or Borderlands).

rabidpancakeburglar4739d ago

I pointed out yesterday that this reminded me of borderlands but on a grander scale, the agrees and disagrees were about the same. If you look at the plot then you can't help but be reminded of fallout and to an extent borderlands.

I thought that it was like borderlands because it has a certain look which just reminds me of it and the fact that it's a shooter/rpg, plus the vehicular travel and the ninja star like thing reminds me of the bloodwing in borderlands.

Overall though it looks like it will come up trumps over both fallout and borderlands judging from the gameplay videos so far.

soundslike4739d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the main draw of Borderlands for MANY people was playing a Diablo style loot hording game in FPS with co-op?
Everything after that seems to be icing on the cake.

So Borderlands and Rage really don't seem comparable in any way besides the setting and the inclusion of vehicles. For me, though, it's not that big of a similarity.

rabidpancakeburglar4739d ago

You have your opinion and I have mine, lets leave it at that

thrasherv34739d ago

"RAGE is the successor of Borderlands?"
No.

What makes Borderlands "Borderlands" is the humor and loot. This game has neither from what I can tell. It also doesn't have the RPG elements that Borderlands has(skill-tree's and character progression.) Rage still might be a great game(or better, who knows) but has no business being compared to Borderlands and vice versa.

(Hell, does this game even have co-op!? Or PvP?)

mtm59254739d ago

Borderlands is basically Diablo in FPS form.

Rage, from what I've read, is more like Bioshock in gameplay wise. Limited number of weapons, ammo types, crafting, mini games, and swallow RPG elements. And there's no loot or classes.

Im glad he leaving. Bethesda has been terrible under his leadership. Redfall, Starfield, Fallout76 and the list goes on an on. His leadership style is outdated. Hopefully, MS bring someone in that knows what they are doing.

RhinoGamer88193d ago

I will give you Fallout 76, but Redfall and Starfield's blame needs to fall somewhat on the terrible Xbox publishing team. With all their resources and supposed smarts...they fungled it.

VenomUK193d ago

@Mika He’s the communications guy - you can’t blame him for the quality of the product.

jznrpg193d ago

Maybe they can go to their earlier purchases for replacements . Like Rare devs , Gear devs or 343, one of the very few studios they built up and man they are great.

Crows90193d ago

That could work ...if MS knew what they were doing themselves ...

But let's be real. Xbox was in charge of redfall and Starfield. They just don't know what a good game looks like.

RhinoGamer88193d ago

I interviewed at Bethesda once, and while there were some very smart mid level team members, the upper ranks (EP/VP/Studio Head) were a total boys' club. The Madmen series ego in that lunch was stiffling.

Pete Hines was against locking out the majority of their console playerbase (ps gamers). Probably disgusted at the hypocrisy of white knight Phil assuring PS gamers that they can still play COD. Acquisition goes through, Hines goes out.

Goodbye Pete.

gold_drake193d ago

i wonder if he was asked to leave.

im pretty sure not everyone was on board with the acquisition.

Profchaos193d ago

Pretty much everyone outside of Todd has made snide comments against the acquisition but money talks
