New Challenger: Sony President Calls You A Kid

Default Prime: "The most worrying thing here is the underlying attitude Jack’s statement has betrayed. I don’t know if he realises there’s an overlap in the people who buy Nintendo and Sony gaming products. I’m no expert myself, but I’ll hazard a guess that it’s not just me who’s part of that overlap. And for a PR stunt this hasn’t done Sony’s reputation any favours in my book. So what if you think your little piece of gaming plastic is more ‘grown-up’ in its conception than market competitors’. I guarantee that just as many youths as adults are interested. In fact I’ve never seen a self-respecting adult playing a PSP. Perhaps that’s because just by looking at a PSP you can feel the aura of condescension and smugness radiating from it. Or perhaps it’s because, as a company, Nintendo is much more mature in the technology it produces and the way it markets."

Ps3bestever is a female or something else...with a crush. What's wrong with that?

rockleex4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

Nintendo is going the route of "its all fun and games" while Sony is sticking with the "we give you the best bang for your buck and make your home theater system shine".

I don't know why the author has such a problem with this when its CLEAR what each system offers and markets.

The PS3 and 360 share mostly the same types of gamer demographics, while the Wii has a demographic ranging from little kids to even grandmas and grandpas playing games.

I don't see what's so wrong about this.

"Ps3bestever is a female or SOMETHING ELSE"

ComboBreaker4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

If you don't want Sony calling you a kid, then you need to stop playing with kid's toys and kid's games and start playing real hardcore games, games like Demon Soul, available exclusively on the only hardcore console system left, the PS3.

I don't know why the author is getting mad. The DS is for kids.

Blacktric4764d ago

And Twilight is for... Well, you probably know...

Anarki4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

With a name like WarPRINCESS...... you know..
This site isn't just for guys you know ¬.¬

Stewie2k84764d ago

how is it for kids? i personally hate the DS, but i dont see how its just for kids ;/ i saw a lot of grannies and adults playing it too.

trounbyfire4764d ago

it is mostly for kids and to say other wise is ignorant

elmaton984764d ago

It is for kids. But for your information, we all have a child feeling inside even if we're old and if not then why do you think old people enjoy video games or enjoy playing a specific sport for that matter.

meetajhu4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

I completely disagree its for babies & infants

-Alpha4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

So was Spyro, LittleBigPlanet, etc. The PlayStation brand was built off of some great "Children" games.

Jack sounds like a jack when he tries to imply that playing a PSP makes you a man. The only people who have to confirm their manliness through playing "manly" games must be the insecure type with something to prove.

Reminds me of the 12 year olds on COD who think their mature gamers for playing M rated games.

BiggCMan4764d ago

Tretton is a good man, and a great host for E3. So he makes a stupid statement, its no big deal, he is only doing it to promote his company like any other president and CEO would do. I think people just need to stop taking things so seriously.

UP4764d ago

I agree BiggCMan everyone makes a stupid statement once in a while.

blumatt4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

While it is true that the PlayStation brand has its fair share of quote "kiddy" franchises (the aforementioned Spyro, LittleBigPlanet, etc.), the PS brand is also known for offering a wide variety of titles ranging from the hardest of hardcore down to the kiddy-friendliest games. That being said, Jack Tretton does have a point, when calling out the DS for being a kiddy platform, when its hard hitters are Mario, Kirby, and Pokemon. I'd say Zelda is really its hardest core game that I can think of.

Again, though, Jack Tretton really shouldn't have "stirred the pot" here, because it's only going to bring about negativity towards Sony's brand. It won't be very proactive for him to keep making comments like this.

The main thing Sony needs to concentrate on right now is making sure the PSP2 comes out with a $300 (or cheaper) Wifi price point (and $350 3G pricepoint), a slew of awesome launch titles, day-one full connectivity to PSN, and loads of new unique features for the PSP2. Comments like this don't sell consoles (or prevent consoles from being sold. lol). Games and features sell consoles, and that's what Tretton needs to concentrate on. I'm psyched for the PSP2 myself.

BTW, guys, I just saw a 3DS for the first time and I was quite impressed with the 3D technology. It was, however, a bit "wonky". lol You have to hold it dead center and it takes a second for your eyes to adjust to the 3D effect. Like others have said, the 3D effect is more of a DEPTH effect than a POPPING OUT effect. It seems to work, though. One thing I noticed was how small the device was. It looked bigger in pictures. The screens are a tad small for my taste, as well.

Anyway, in the words of Kevin Butler, "We all serve one master, and his name is GAMING! Forever may he reign!" LOL

dirtrider4764d ago

well said alpha.

biggcman- i wonder if you will have that same opinion/post when aaron greenburg says something stupid......i bet you won't

with the bad press sony received in 2006 and being thought of as "arrogant" you'd think they would become a little more humble, learn their lesson in a way, guess not.

i hate when anyone from a company makes air headed statements, makes me think less of them and their products.

"Slap the thing out of his children’s’ hands at the age of seven and force them to start playing games..."

what's this article guy getting at? Tretton said the DS is a babysitting tool. what a contradictory jerk.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO4764d ago

Half true, but not entire true. DS is focus to younger audiences.

RedDead4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

It's marketed to Adults quite alot too though. Like the Wii, it has Brain training and al that lark, it also has a few hardcore games, like the Wii. Most the DS and Wii are just for casuals. It's targeted at casuals not kids, they have a few hardcore titles, but only a few make it overseas :(

Edit---look saying the DS is for kids is just generalizing it, it's like someone saying video games are for kids. It's simply not

soren4764d ago

a few hard core games? since when do casul gamers play rpg games and castlevainia? and dragon quest hmmmm

mamotte4764d ago

Well, then. Sell the PSP and PS3 just to 21+ years old persons. That make sense right now.

Sell your product is a thing. But, offense other products to sell your product is a baby's attitude. Is unprofessional, too.

Raven_Nomad4764d ago

I am adult and I play a DS, There are rated M games on it. I bought one for my mother who is certainly not a kid, she loves it!

I really dislike Jack, I know all businessmen are somewhat liars, but this guy takes the cake.

"He is too old for Lollipops" Yet Sony makes their own.

Trashed Nintendo for doing motion controls as well, then after Nintendo gets successful with it, they copy it, what a great guy huh?

Now saying only kids play a DS? This guy just doesn't know when to shut up. I remember hating the PS3 and Sony so much at the start of this generation and he was a huge reason, then recently I was starting to come around and was enjoying it a bit more, now with this idiot running his mouth, it's really pissing me off again.

blumatt4764d ago

"Trashed Nintendo for doing motion controls as well, then after Nintendo gets successful with it, they copy it, what a great guy huh?"

Well, in all fairness, even though they shouldn't have made brash comments about Nintendo's console, they didn't exactly "copy" their tech. They had been working on motion control gaming for quite awhile before the Wii even came out. It all started on the PS2. A guy name Richard Marks developed the early tech behind the Move using the PS2 (in 2004, at that). Here's a link, if you don't believe me.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

tunaks14764d ago

u do realize that the wiimote was originally made for the gamecube...
Its odd isnt it that sony would wait till after Nintendo's success with the Wii to bring out Move.

NiKK_4194764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

Well if the Wii controller took that long to develop, who's to say the move couldn't have taken a little longer

Besides, the Wii controller is very simple, it doesn't have anything that smartphones haven't had for years, it's only an accelerometer and infrared

I do, however believe that Sony wasn't all that sure about how people would take the move until they saw how good Nintendo did with the wii

soren4764d ago

its more likes he a Hippocrat then a copy cat which is worst if u ask me and very contradicting kinda like sony fanboys are the same aswaell

Obama4764d ago

If you dislike Jack, then you must hate Aron Greenburg as he has made numerous stupid comments.

v1c1ous4764d ago

yes let's forget sony's arrogance by pointing out others.

Max_Dissatisfaction4764d ago

I do not recall Aaron calling Ninty or Sony console owners kids or non-self respecting

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno4d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers13d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken13d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

z2g13d ago

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing13d ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H913d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola13d ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66913d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle13d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg14d ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos14d ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola14d ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
