Danish chart for the week ending 13th October, 2007. Motorstorm knocks out Halo 3

Motorstorm has moved up to no 3 on last week's Danish chart. This also gives the readers an idea about ps3 hardware sales in Denmark since it is bundled with ps3 alongside Resistance. Halo 3 and Forza 2 were also bundled with x360 premium to counter ps3 onslaught in EUROPE.
Resistance has also moved up 20 places to no 8. Unfortunately unlike UK PGR4 flopped in Denmark. "Fifa 08" topped the chart followed by "The Sims".

This is the chart for last week :-

UK is the only region in EU where ps3 trailed wii before the price cut.

I knew that ps3 would be in a killing spree with a price cut and the 40gig ps3.

Initial GFK reports indicate 400% boost in hardware sales for ps3 in EU with the margin exceeding 1000% in GERMANY and SPAIN

goodganja6048d ago

Looks like Sony is steadily Xrossing out the competition in Europe. Other countries will soon follow. Along with what nasim said PS3 looks to have a 64% increase in sales with the price cut and with Play TV coming another 21% so look for PS3 to have 85% increase by the end of 2008.

But then again, when your sales numbers are small, any increase in sales will equate to big percentages.

I do hope the PS3 does better in the coming year, that may help decide the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD race already.

Owned lol halo had the spot for 1-2 weeks thats about it

ARBitrator6048d ago (Edited 6048d ago )

Halo has been out less than a month and has outsold any other title on the PS3 since launch. See how easy that is.

Edit: Another thing that skews this data is that Motostorm is being packaged with the PS3. Where would Motorstorm rank as a stand alone purchase. Also imagine the numbers halo would have racked up had it been bundled with all 360 skus.

Just a thought, so show how easy it is to tell a story if you align the data the right way.

Halo is also bundled in Europe what's your point? Also, install base skews numbers as well.

fenderputty6048d ago

That's the point. This is a reflection of tha amount of new harware being sold due to the new price point. The motorstorm bundle and raise in software sales is indicitive of how the hardware is doing.

ARBitrator6048d ago

3.2 You had a good point until you said install base skews the numbers, are you serious install base is what generates the numbers. No install base no sales or what's your point. In that particular case you have no point because your point is irrelavent. But my original arguement still holds true even if you remove the bundled halos.

3.3 I agree.

andy0016047d ago

The install base does bear relevance to the numbers of games sold and how successful a game is.

For example, if you agree that the 360 has 12 million users and that Halo 3 sold 3.5 million then that is a 30% (approx) penetration. Then if you agree that the PS3 has say 6 million users and Resistance sold 2 million then that is a 33% penetration.

Which is the most successful game?

We can of course, find 'facts' and figures to pretty much prove whatever we want, but in the end, its all bollox

ARBitrator6047d ago

Don't let the percentages fool you, same goes with console sale increases and decreases. The most sucessful game is the game that sold the most individual copies. Plain and simple. Regardless of what percentage of the install bases bought it. Although the two are somewhat proportionate to one another.

andy0016047d ago (Edited 6047d ago )

I would argue that the most successful game is the one which made the most profit. Unfortunately we will probably never know that answer. The marketing budget for Halo3 is huge, but I reckon they will make money from merchandising which will contribute to the bottom line. Resistance is a new franchise and doesn't have the momentum that Halo has, but will have lower development costs and 'incentives' from Sony. Halo's development budget would be far higher too, but again, the sales will offset that, and future downloadable content will add to profits (as there is no chance in hell it will be free)

But hey, if you think sales is the key figure, then thats fine with me. My definition is how much enjoyment I get out of the game, and Resistance is more successful so far, but maybe thats because it is a new story, as it is a run of the mill fps, allbeit very well done. I felt that Halo3 was all a bit of a rehash of Halo, the last mission is nearly a carbon copy of the original. There are many moments where I felt I had been there before.

I wouldn't have put money on that one. Good for Sony.

You may report players in Helldivers 2 now but fans want a commendation button

Helldivers 2 players can be reported but a group would rather share the love with a commendation button, rewarding players with samples and medals.

Sony is to blame for Helldivers 2 getting brutally review bombed, so why is Arrowhead still catching strays?

i feel like a majority has been blaming Sony and not Arrowhead.
just what ive seen.

isarai14h ago

Same, not sure where they were looking

Tacoboto3h ago

Arrowhead's CEO is awesome and so transparent; they're demonstrating they're a gamer-first studio and will stand by our side even with a publishing partner as big as Sony.

I haven't seen anyone blaming Arrowhead except the dumb "but you knew!" takes... Which are useless, it's still the publisher that listed it for sale in unsupported countries.

northpaws1h ago

but when they review bombs, it hurts arrowhead, not Sony

KwietStorm_BLM3h ago

I think we've already moved past it but hey gotta remind everyone what direction to throw shade where they were already throwing it.

DarXyde2h ago

Is anyone blaming Arrowhead?

That would be news to me.

TheColbertinator2h ago

I do. Sony is a pox on the gaming industry.
