man, can't wait for this

BakedGoods4757d ago (Edited 4757d ago )

...no pun intended.

See what developers can do when they actually *try* and develop for the PS3? Sharper textures, better AA, a definite PS3 win.

MmaFan-Qc4757d ago

Valve clearly did their homeworks to handle the ps3, now the 360 version look like shit...lmao.

but honestly, who would REALLY buy the 360 version other than the peoples who ONLY own a 360 or hardcore fangirls?

nveenio4757d ago

I guess no one will be able to say that PS3 got the PC version free because the PS3 version was crappy. It's nice to see the PS3 getting some overdue love from a third-party developer.

CommonSense4757d ago

there is no contest here. but i have to say...the 360 version looks like it was almost intentionally made to look worse..like it's not being displayed in the proper resolution or something. it looks worse than the first portal on 360. something doesn't seem quite right here.

either way, ps3 is far and away the clear winner here. i opted for the ps3 version solely for the PC key, but i guess it worked out anyway.

MaxXAttaxX4757d ago (Edited 4757d ago )

Although, the PS3 version does indeed look great and has the graphical advantage. Portal 2 looks good on any console :)

@CommonSense:
I highly doubt the game was made to look bad intentionally, since it's still an improvement. Portal 2 on 360 looks better than the first Portal game did.

NoobSessions4757d ago

None are really pushing any graphical limits, but the PS3 does seem to have the edge. I wouldn't call the 360 shit though

starchild4757d ago (Edited 4757d ago )

Cool, I'm getting the PS3 version. I mean, it was a no-brainer for me since the PC version is the main version I care about and I get the PC version free with the PS3 version. The PS3 version is just a nice bonus that I can play to get the trophies and maybe play some co-op with console-only friends.

In any case I don't see much difference here. Both versions look extremely similar, with the PS3 having maybe a bit sharper image quality and perhaps better anti-aliasing. (I can't see all the screenshots because that site isn't loading correctly for me). The PC version will have the more noticeable advantages.

Ravage274757d ago

This would be the standard outcome had all developers devoted equal resources to both consoles.

I'm not surprised by the lack of AA in the 360 version though, since L4D2 looked exactly like that.

Oh well, this is a clear victory for the PS3. Superior AA, more realistic lighting and higher resolution assets.

Vorgier4757d ago

@MmaFan-Qc. Way to be completely bias and show that you are indeed a "hardcore fangirl" yourself.

Idiot.

raztad4757d ago

Glad to see the PS3 SKU looking good (screens dont tell the whole picture tho, info about performance is still needed)

Also glad the game is getting incredible reviews, all across the board, as I got it pre-ordered on Amazon (off pure faith Valve would pull a good PS3 version + all the exciting steam integration). PS3 owners should support this game.

jeseth4756d ago

When will the graphics thing end?

Its obvious PS3 when used properly is capable of more, but in the end .. . who cares?

Its easy to separate the people who actually just want to play games and the people trying to count pixels to make some kind of point for their personal agenda.

When you look at it without your fanboy blinders, PS3 has more graphically impressive games. . . .but plenty of awesome looking games look just as good on both (Assassin's Creed, Batman AA, COD, Battlefield, Dead Space, etc. etc.).

malamdra4756d ago

well, that's a huge difference, the PS3 is clearly head and shoulders above

frostyhat1234756d ago

Im tired of these comparisons! The difference is so small that neither side should feel cheated! If you do feel cheated then your just nitpicking.

darthv724756d ago (Edited 4756d ago )

you dont know who to trust anymore with these comparison sites. To think one site could favor one platform over another, wouldnt go to the length of tweaking with the output to change the results. That is very possible.

The end result is to judge for yourself. Be it on graphics, controls or friends to play with/against. This game looks to cover all the bases no matter what you choose.

somerandomdude4756d ago

how credible is this source?

If it's credible than Valve did a bad job on the 360 version, I know the 360 can handle better graphics than this game is showing.I'd have to say Valve is having a bad track record for multi-plat games.

I never buy a game based on graphics but I will be buying portal 2 for ps3 purely based on cross platform gaming and a free pc copy.

BubbleSniper4756d ago

this a no-brainer!

ps3+PC ver = win

i own all console but P2 for PS3 have so much win i will soon die and some of you will be happy can thank Portal 2 n Valve

jaidek4757d ago

Wow, Valve wasn't kidding. The PS3 version of Portal 2 looks great! While the lighting looks softer on the Xbox 360 my "Sub-HD" senses are tingling on the Xbox 360 version. Well, glad to see I'll be getting the superior version tomorrow...PS3/PC FTW!

jack_burt0n4757d ago

360 is rockin some 640x480 lmao

Beefstew4u4756d ago

I doubt the 360 version is running in solid SD ;).

evilmonkey5014756d ago (Edited 4756d ago )

A lot of games on the box are upscaled like this, same for the ps3 with activision games...black ops/cod isn't even close to being in native low-end (720p) high definition. If its not even native 720p its not high definition.

junk3d4757d ago

Wow...sub hd resolution much on the 360?

liquidxtension4757d ago

Better lighting though on the 360 though but I agree. The PS3 is the definitive version I think.

fr0sty4757d ago

the lighting isn't better, it's the same really, it's just that the gamma levels are higher on ps3 making the image appear brighter.

MaxXAttaxX4757d ago (Edited 4757d ago )

It's contrast. But I understand that many people can confuse it with "better lighting".

Look at the image of the room. You'll notice that the 360 is both bright and overly dark.
Look under the table and chair. Completely black. Shadows are crushed. Losing detail.
While the PS3 version holds a more balanced picture (more cinematic-ish) and maintains visible detail in dark areas.

MmaFan-Qc4757d ago

dont know if its subhd....but its clearly blurry as f...

Vherostar4756d ago

Nothing new most if not all AAA exclusives on 360 are sub HD too. The 360 just has a problem handling HD gaming. You remember when MS used to bang on about HD gaming near the launch of 360? Now they never say a word. Though they do a really good job in upscaling and that usually does the job.

darkecho4757d ago

Wow, I can't wait! The 360 version looks like crap though.

Bay4757d ago

I'm shocked. Its almost like the 360 is running on either 720p or sub-HD while the PS3 is running on 1080p, even though both are 720. This is incredibly weird and fascinating.

PS3 wins out in this round, for sure.

OpenGL4757d ago

Nah, my guess is that the 360 version is at a lower resolution, or 720p without AA while some form of AA is present in the PS3 version.

Bay4757d ago (Edited 4757d ago )

Thats possible, it won't be the first time a game was supposedly running at a certain resolution, but was in fact not the resolution they said it'd be (like RDR).

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica38d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31338d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Friendlygamer38d ago

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer37d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name45d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno45d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno45d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure44d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

valve suck so much at making games now, opting just to smaug on top of an enormous pile of money,
that fans got so desperate that they have to make their own games.
this industry is fucking over.
