Valve Rips Off Kevin Butler, but in a Good Way

Valve has seemingly copied Sony's approach to marketing, bringing a Kevin Butler-like character to Portal 2.

I actually prefer the Cave Johnson stuff, he is even more over the top than KB lol.

>=o anime dose not suck it's better then american cartoons .. if you think anime sucks 1 you haven't given it a chance ,2 you have no taste 3 you haven't found one you like yet ... i use to hate anime and think it was stupid but then i gave it a chance and i was addicted i like subs but dubz own imo cuse i can speak english XD and not have to read...

on topic KB OWNS .. what you talkin bout willis.

Jazz41084760d ago

I agree and god forbid us if they were ms adds as n4g would hate kb then

thedisagreefairy4760d ago

u need to know something... south park, futurama, and king of the hill beats the hell outta anime

evrfighter4760d ago

not seeing the Kevin butler similarity. Closest I could see was troy mclure and even that's a stretch.

DarkSpawnClone4760d ago (Edited 4760d ago )

@thedisagreefairy
" u need to know something... south park, futurama, and king of the hill beats the hell outta anime"

those are some of my favorite shows infact but they don't beat a good anime i suggest you check out "Cowboy bebop" or some anime movies like "Ninja scroll" or "Princess Mononoke" don't be fooled by it's name its a awesome movie, there available in english as well, check them out for starters tho im not sure what you're into you should give it a chance man, some people hate anime with out having a real reason too but man anime is great

thedisagreefairy4760d ago

i hate the dialogue for most of them. its just so corny to listen to most of the time. ironically i love the metal gear solid series though

shadow27974760d ago

Slightly off topic, but does this mean there's no longer fall damage?

Actually, was there fall damage in Portal 1? I can't remember anymore.

ChrisGTR14760d ago

KB is really just a ripoff of steven colbert anyways

peowpeow4760d ago

No there was no fall damage. Remember missing the portal as you jump down during the momentum puzzles :P

Shuklar4760d ago

King of the Hill is good programming? LMAO!!! Freaking hillbillies...

pixelsword4760d ago (Edited 4760d ago )

At any rate, given the candor and comedy style of Cave, I can kinda see the connection... kinda; but if he's the voice you'll hear throughout the game, it may become old fast.

thedisagreefairy4760d ago

king of the hill is a satire over "rednecks"

Speakindatruth4759d ago

If anime had a sustaining framerate of more than what feels like an average 5 fps, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Too many stand still moments, without action--just boring. Dialogue isn't there, ever, and you'd have to be pretty anti-social to be able to enjoy it. If they did get as much frames as Family Guy, people, I guarantee you, we would watch them. But most don't have the patience for paint dripping down walls, nor do they have the patience to wait for several painted action sequences with weird sound effects.
IMHO, Americans do anime better. Teen Titans, was the best when I was a kid. And everyone can hate me for this one, Avatar was just a bundle of fun. Naruto is shit.

Firstly i disagree i have no clue what anime show you where watching but yeah i don't find these problems you like do and secondly i agree with you on how " Naruto is shit" i hate that amine with passion it is probably the most stupid and worst amine i have ever seen i couldn't stand watching 5 mins of it and if you are going to judge amine based on naruto i can see why you feel the way you do about anime but there are a lot of different types of anime so much I'm sure even some one who hates it could find one they liked, there's more to anime then just pokemon, naruto ect a lot more and a lot better.

"i hate the dialogue for most of them. its just so corny to listen to most of the time. ironically i love the metal gear solid series though"

i don't think its all that bad really but it depends on what you are watching you got to remember some of these shows are old,go watch a episode of the old original transformers and that will be even cheesier, hell some times our video games have bad dialogue and we still play it,besides some times the dialogue is funny lmao

I know I have a Naruto avatar, there are some things I like about it(mainly...powers, chakra system etc, Sasuke story before he targeted the wrong people and sided with the one who should be his biggest enemy, character design) but even I know you should not base the quality of Anime on Naruto, it sucks compared to alot of others(and I currently think the plot has gone to shit and is nonredeemable , worst 'war' ever). Really, anime is like watching movies, they vary so much.

You can get good ones and crap mainstream ones that are watchable and addicting(only wanting to know what happens, which is the only reason I watch Naruto now, I want to see the end) but fall short of anything I would consider great. Like Cowboy Bebop, the first 26 episodes of Death note(I don't like the rest, I feel it should have ended there and then with a certain death) Ilike Code Geass, mainly because the ending has to be the best i've ever seen in maybe...anything. I also like Monster. Thriller, detective story, Human experiment story, good but drags on at some points...I am forgetting some right now.

Basically though Naruto is like Cod. Sticking to basic crap, it's alright but not something you should compare to Avatar(because it is a higher level of quality) and good versus evil(I thought this was changing but it's gone back to straight forward GvE) and if you think it's shit I can see why. Also i watch subbed anime, I can't stand english dialogue in alot of them, especially Naruto, which takes out cursing, and just has annoying voices in general..also 'BELIEVE IT!' whoever decided to translate "dattebayo" to "believe it" should be hanged, drawn and quartered.

This is well off topic though right haha

How the heck was that like Kevin Butler?

it wasn't but they had to throw in something to create.....FLAMEBAIT!

SonyPS3604760d ago

I know. It was actually funny.

sobekflakmonkey4760d ago

I know....that was just so pointless...STUPID ARTICLE.

Christopher4760d ago

Yeah, don't get the KB reference at all.

Lawliet4760d ago

Exactly my thought... Kevin Butler doesn't hide behind the scene!

Eamon4760d ago

Completely agree with HolyOrangeCows

This article is meaningless. There is hardly any similarity and the biggest difference is that KB is acting while Cave Johnson is voicing.

Either the author is a bit dumb or he created it with the purpose of flaimbait to gain a billion hits.

In related news, WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PORTAL 2 REVIEWS???

lalalala4761d ago

i hope portal 2 is a decent length, at least 6-8 hours would be worth it imo.

fluffydelusions4761d ago

Each campaign is supposed to be that length afaik. BTW anyone know when the reviews will start coming in?

Tdmd4760d ago

8 hours or above that. Less then this is not worth a buy imo.

sobekflakmonkey4760d ago

really? you must not have too many fps games then...cause pretty much every fps that has come out can be beaten in like 4-6 hours. thats all the recent CoD's, the new Medal of Honor, Killzone 2/3, they iz short in general, but that doesnt mean the experience is bad.

Tdmd4760d ago

@sobekflakmonkey

You're right. In fact, I have none.

Eamon4760d ago

Portal isn't a first person shooter.

It's a first person puzzle game.

GodofwarGoty4761d ago

i find it funny how it is the same as Kevin Bulter Commericial

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica38d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31338d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Friendlygamer38d ago

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer37d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name45d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno45d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno45d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure45d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

valve suck so much at making games now, opting just to smaug on top of an enormous pile of money,
that fans got so desperate that they have to make their own games.
this industry is fucking over.
