3DS Launch Games: Nintendo's Second Best Portable Lineup (Modojo)

The 3DS launch was harshly criticized by fans disappointed with the absence of big franchise stars like Mario, Link and Kirby.

This anger was a bit unwarranted for two reasons. First, the fact that Nintendo didn't have a new Mario game is no surprise, since the famous plumber failed to appear at both the GameCube and Wii launches in 2001 and 2006, respectively. Like it or not, there's a strategy involved.

I have to agree. I really don't understand all the hate for the 3DS launch lineup.
Not only is this the first time I've bought a system at launch, the buy 1, get one 1/2 off many retailers had during launch week allowed me to pick up all the launch titles worth having.

maybe a lot of people barking because it's nintendo..? Launch line up isn't too bad for 3DS.. decent games: Super monkey ball, street fighter, pro evolution, rayman, splinter cell (maybe controls aren't too good, but still), Ridge racer, pilotwings)..

..I could include Rabbids 3D (because it came in begining of april) .. & Steel diver..

people is it bad line-up? nope .. :) now let's wait for May, so if everything will be good, we will get..

DOA:dimensions
Pacman & galaga dimensions (personally can't wait for this)
Dream Trigger 3D

I could be wrong about some release dates..

ur forgetting one of the best of the launch ghost recon check game rankings its ranked 2nd under street fighter

Venoxn4g4766d ago

sorry, I really did forget that.. :)

Rhezin4767d ago

I personally hate the line-up. The only one I got was street fighter IV, and I'm not even into street fighter. But I did get the 3DS for the upcoming games. As for launch titles? Some of the worst line-up I've seen for a launch. But exercising patience will be worth it in the end.

Kid Icarus
Zelda
Starfox 64
NEW Super Mario Bros.
Resident Evil Mercenaries/Revelations

Can't wait!

Line up isn't too bad overall, the games are pretty good. But it lacks that big titles that absolutely EVERYONE must have... although Street Fighter and Pilotwings seem to be the favourites.

If they ever did I hope they would add onto it, there's so much you could do with Princess Peach's castle alone

roadkillers79d ago

Or just make the Mario 128... the cancelled sequel that sounded amazing (or was it just an amazing tale).

fr0sty79d ago

Funny that after all these years, we still use 64 bit CPUs, so it wouldn't make sense to call it that.

fr0sty79d ago

Yeah, a straight remake doesn't sound good to me. Same formula, but different game.

Number1TailzFan80d ago

Each level is pretty small today in the original game, I don't like huge levels but I think they could be at least 2x bigger, or close to it and more of them, with more things to do.

They could do a mix of having open levels and more linear ones like in 3D World or Land, I doubt they will do that but it would make a change.

Neonridr79d ago

I mean Odyssey's levels weren't massive, but requiring you to do different things in each world is what made the levels feel bigger than they were.

ZeekQuattro80d ago

I'd prefer a Oydessey 2 or Galaxy 3. Besides the DS
game was a Mario 64 remake complete with more playable characters, stages, bosses and muti player content.

Cacabunga79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

I did not like Odyssey i found the idea of ot lame.. i find it boring to just look for moons instead of exploring and enjoying the levels. Let’s not talk about the extremely repetitive and ridiculously easy bosses. Level design is so meh most of the time. Galaxy 2 is a far better game so Galaxy 3 anytime!!!

TiredGamer79d ago

Agreed. I enjoyed Odyssey for a while, but it quickly became very formulaic where each level felt like a checklist of things to do with WAY too many moons to find. The Galaxy series were the best, as they took some of what made 64 great and juiced it up perfectly.

Yes! Let's release an almost 30 year old game to kick off the next generation for Nintendo...
I'm over re-releases...FEED ME NEW MARIO!
