Good vs. Evil: You Choose

TIG: "Lend a helping hand to a fallen comrade? Murder an innocent civilian in order to save your squad? Leave an injured pal behind? Games often grasp their players by forcing them to make difficult decisions. It is a proven tactic developers use to engage gamers and get them involved in the story. Games that have famously employed this strategy would include: Bioshock, Fable, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, even the likes of World of Warcraft and The Sims creates situations in which the player must make moral, in-game decisions."...

I choose the side of good.

skorp4799d ago

Same here... it's hard not to most of the time.

Unless it's GTA then everybody has to die and everything needs to explode.

But usually, good's good.

yah i go with good too

i mean just because we are used to that mentality
that im a hero and i should save the world

but in video games its all fun
now one thing is you make sure that it stays only in game and dont let it effect your morality in real life

awesomeperson4799d ago

Yeah I usually do but sometimes evil can be easier, like you don't have to worry about accidently killing innocents.

At first I thought this article would be about choosing between good and evil in infamous then I realised it wasn't even mentioned o.O

It's normally good, however in some games I strive to be bad, ME2 Renegade is way funner than good. And Kotor as well, except Kotor had stupid choices to make you evil, it involves being an asshole instead of actually being Evil. This game atleast made me want to be evil, after you learn a certain fact ;)

depends how i feel. sometimes i will help that lady and kill the wolves trying to eat her, sometimes i'll shoot her in the face loot her body. then kill the wolves and sell their hides.

Finger-Eater4799d ago

Always Good on my first run through then Evil on the second.

Sadly I don't think the games that do have that option aren't all that balanced.

Most of the time picking the evil side will cost you in the long run, losing mission options for instance when you cut off dialog or kill someone who has some minor role later. Many times people just wont talk to you, so I sorta feel like I miss out when being totally evil.

So I end up going good on my first play though almost every time, then go evil on 2nd play though. Then I know who has what to offer, and what I would miss by acting out on someone.

ES3 set things off, it's a shame they got greedy and decided to cut corners so the executives could get huge pay days.
