While it may look and smell like Mojang's hit PC building game MineCraft, ProjectorGames' FortressCraft, now available via Xbox Live Indie Games, is a slightly different animal. Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?
If you love the building aspect of MineCraft but aren't too keen on the actual harvesting of materials, then you might be in for a treat with FortressCraft: Chapter 1. The game, as much as you can call it a game in its current state, gives players access to all the materials they need to customize their tiny slice of Xbox Live heaven, without having to worry about farming for resources, at least for now.
Digital DNA Games has revealed that their uber-popular CastleMiner Z has now become the second most downloaded Xbox Live Indie Game of all time.
"XBOX Indie Game sensation FortressCraft has had their latest patch drop. Content Patch 9 brings a new, flesh-hungry element to the game – zombies. Of course, with zombies comes the tools one needs to fight off the horde – which can be as large as 512 zeds. Sawblades and turrets have been added to defeat the brain-hungry masses; however, those who purchase ProjectorGames’ other title, Steam Heroes, will also have the Harrison Axe with which to slug the monstrosities. Zombies are fully customizable and, upon entering a new world, you’ll never know what variation of these walking dead you’ll be going up against."
Both heavily inspired by Minecraft, Total Miner: Forge and FortressCraft locked horns but it was the former that come out on top, having now pushed out more units than the latter on the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace.
TM: Forge was a horrific Minecraft clone. Not only did the controls not work well, but the gameplay got so boring.
This is only in the US ( http://marketplace.xbox.com... & http://marketplace.xbox.com... ) and FortressCraft has not sold 1 million units as stated in the article.
LOL @ inspired, it's a complete ripoff.
I actually played it. Its like Minecraft minus all the things that make it great. You can't craft, there is no reason to explore or mine, there is no combat, no NPCs. Building something in Minecraft is more rewarding because it serves a purpose and requires resource gathering. FortressCraft is placing blocks solely to place them. No modding because its on 360 only.

Are you guys illiterate or something, THIS IS CHAPTER 1, other minecraft like features will be added at a later date just like Notch has done all along with minecraft.
Minecraft was not a 100% original idea, Notch said himself he played a lot of Infiniminer and that inspired him to create Minecraft.
Minecraft Classic, Infiniminer and FortressCraft are all based on the same concept "Create".
The new Minecraft (as in Minecraft Beta) does actually what the name claims. You mine for resources and use them resources to craft objects and item to help protect you from mobs or to create wonders.
