i had 26,000 youtube subscribers until a rival channel decided to file 3 false dmca claims against me resulting in the automatic termination of my account and the 350 videos i had made.

youtube don't even review the claims they just take action and tell me i can take legal action if i want my account back. which i can't afford to do.

I had five other videos of the same game that I downloaded from the same site and none of them seemed to be a problem.

But seriously, good read. I doubt, however, that the games industry is the only culprit of this. We're certainly the most obvious about it, though.

I also doubt it is exclusive to the gaming industry, but man it is night and day from what I have experienced over the previous 10 years.

As a fellow games journalist, I sympathise with your situation, however in the past when this same thing happened to me
I simply stopped posting their videos online, I look at it this way, if I don't post their videos, it's them that suffers, not me.

I should also point out that in some cases they watermark a trailer with a specific sites logo (exclusive trailers), and in others there may be embargo's in place on the trailer - even if you don't watch the entire thing it's still a good idea to flip through every video before uploading, and checking the source you obtained the video for any embargo's.

I appreciate the feedback. I am aware of embargos. I usually get to posting anything I do very late in the day when it has been publicly posted. I don't want to be first, I don't claim to be the best, I just want to have fun. I may have to start a separate account for anything other than video I record myself, because I probably have at least a 2-3 TB of video I recorded myself that I no longer have.

It's the one thing I always worry about on YouTube, you have to be so careful on the content you upload and make sure it's not a site exclusive or already been claimed by another channel.

3 strikes and your account is deleted, that goes for Partners as well which I am so it can be so worrying when this happens.

The good thing is, if it's done by mistake you can get in touch with the copyright holder and explain. This happened to me with F1 2010 last year, usually they will be good hearted and remove the strike from your account.

Another thing which worries myself and a few others is that we are Partners and usually we get an income from this. So 3 strikes basically = Your fired.

Good feedback. I've never done any of this to make money. Some magazines have offered to pay me for my work, and some have asked what I would charge for the use of a photo I took and my answer is always "a copy of the magazine." I just really enjoy playing video games and spreading my love for them. It's unfortunate that it has to be this way.

what is your channel? my old channel was RSPproductionz but that was terminated as a result of youtubes faulty dmca system. my new channel has 1,400 subs but i have already 2 strikes from the same guy who filed the false dmca's on my old channel.

and when i try to make the counter claim youtube keeps telling me that it could not be processed but no reason why.

I don't have a ton of subscribers, but it's not all about that. I just enjoy doing it, and I have almost 700 videos, at least 450+ of which are gameplay videos that are in 720p that would be gone forever if my channel were deleted. It's just a bogus process, as others are saying.

Just reached 13,000 subscribers, and heading to 20 million views in total. I try to keep all my videos in the best quality I can and do other things other channels don't, but lately YouTube is just being over ran by kids who are doing content for Machinima.

I don't think this is in any way exclusive to the gaming industry. It's relevant to all who have a youtube channel, really.

It's really a shame, and a problem with youtube just as much as it is a problem with human decency.
