Sony Expects 100m Free Realms Players

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) president John Smedley is confident that Free Realms, its free-to-play child-friendly MMOG that launched on PS3 download service PlayStation Network last week, will reach 100 million users.

First launched for PC in 2009, with a Mac release the following year, Free Realms recently hit 17 million users, but Smedley expects that number to grow dramatically over time.

Maybe if they release the damn thing in Europe they might have a hope. Stop leaving us behind!

Myst4780d ago

I have to agree with this. Most of the time it seems Europe gets the shaft in games just like Australia at times.

RedDragan4780d ago

It's ironic how Europe is always shafted despite being their cash cow.

VladimirK4780d ago

You could use a US PSN account to download it then play it on your EU account.

Raendom4780d ago

WTF?! 100... Million?! There aren't even 100M PS3s lol! 17M on PC/Mac is pretty amazing, WoW doesn't have that many! I assume by "users" they're actually meaning downloads or something? :\

"With more than 12 million subscribers as of October 2010,[11] World of Warcraft is currently the world's most-subscribed MMORPG,[9][12][13] and holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular MMORPG by subscribers"

There's no way in hell Free Realms has 17 million players. Sony spinning numbers again.

Sitris4780d ago

If you read what you just said, then you will answer all your questions. Wow has the record for the most subscribed users, free realms doesn't need a subscription to play, thus not beating wow in numbers is possible. Not saying these 17 mill are active, but they are most definitely not just spinning numbers.

Spinning numbers would mean Sony is taking a negative to a positive.

They didn't spin anything! They are just being very optimistic. I think Delbert gets angry too fast when Sony is mentioned (like ChristianGamer).

nix4780d ago

all good hopes but... i feel sorry for those 200+ people who lost their jobs at SOE.

Rainstorm814780d ago

Me too... I really wanted the Agency

LoneWanderer094780d ago

is this game any good everytime i go into the Store i see it, but it just does not catch my full attention

newn4gguy4780d ago

I definitely recommend playing it.

Don't expect Warcraft though. It's more of a social/minigames MMO.

LoneWanderer094779d ago

alright thanks am going to download next time i go into the store

bozebo4780d ago

It's a bloody horrible game, why would anybody want to play it? There isn't any actual content.

thekiddfran4780d ago
