OXCGN’s Mass Effect 2: Arrival DLC Review: Arriving Short of Expectations

OXCGN:

"Mass Effect 2 was OXCGN’s very own game of the year in 2010.

"It is quite possibly one of the greatest “light” RPGs of this generation, enveloping both role-playing and action fans alike.

"A semi-consistent stream of DLC has been released, eventually culminating in the final piece that will link Mass Effect 2 to Mass Effect 3: Arrival.

"Disappointingly, it feels very insignificant."

This may very well be the worst of the DLCs, amplified by the simple fact that it was supposed to be the epitome of awesome.

gaminoz4783d ago

I guess they are too busy thinking about the third game? This might be the problem with releasing a sequel so soon?

Proeliator4783d ago

Well, it was just over two years from 1 to 2, which is typical these days.

I would have liked Bioware to impress us with this last DLC before the third game but it is apparent that they did not which is very disappointing.

Bioware are putting out some amazing games, not just Mass Effect 3 and the DLC for Mass Effect 2. So for ANY development house, certain things need to take a backseat in order for them to focus more on AAA items in their lineup.

That's not to say they do not care about their previous games or frnachises, but the main teams are focused on upcoming titles, NOT DLC.

That's leftto a differentteam/division.

It's how ALL development houses do their work. It's often why there's slight differences in quality of art, etc in their DLC or updates, compared to the main teams final game quality.

One needs to cut great development houses some slack in these regards, because without them doing what they do best, you'll end up with mediocure games at best, and fare less of them, then gamers will be complaining about something 'else' - which 90% of gamers seem to do these day - complain, not praise.

Shame on you gamers, shame!

If you were in their shoes, the teams, then you'd be singing a very different tune, that's for sure.

If I was in their shoes I wouldn't bother with the DLC and just worry about ME3, lol. DLC is to make extra money, so they should probably put some decent effort in...

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
