TIG: Dynasty Warriors 9000...err 7?

Just when you thought you had mindlessly slain your last Asian warrior, everyone’s favorite KOEI franchise redeems itself in its latest iteration - Dynasty Warriors 7. For all those worried and concerned, both Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will be able to travel back in time yet again to save the world from the treacherous likes of Lu Bu and Cao Cao. It would be a challenge for me to say that KOEI has taken a lot of risks in their 7th edition. One would only hope that by remaking a game 7 different times it would be completely and totally perfected by now; bringing even the most veteran of gamers to their knees in the sheer beauty of its gameplay. However, Dynasty Warriors 7 is still the same old hack-n-slash, button-mashing, mindless slaughter that it always has been.
More after the break...

If it's ain't broke don't fix it. It's the same thing as Madden, CoD and even all the other sports games. The formula works and people like it the way it is. They add and change new stuff in each entry. I usually don't buy every game in the main series but I'll usually pick up every other release and some of the spin offs. It's good fun, so why hate on it being the same thing when followers of the series are already expecting it to me. When reviewing these games please focus on what's new with the series instead of complaining about how it's the same gameplay when we all know this already.

Dynasty Warriors is in the same situation as any other series out there. Either improve on what you do right, and appease the fans, or change everything completely and try to get new fans.

If DW changed dramatically now, it's hardcore fanbase would be outraged, yet reviewers would probably come out and say 'DW is finally doing something different, well done Koei'.

I know these aren't great comparisons to DW in terms of gameplay, but can you imagine if a well known western series like Mass Effect or Uncharted completely changed things up? I doubt people would be too happy about that. DW is exactly the same with its fans.

I agree with what you say. I though I outgrew my gaming OCD but this game just opened up new wounds. Ehehe.

I just want to collect everything and experience it all.

I didn't figure out the combo system until 3/4 of the way through my first story missions (wu). The xxxxy, xxxy, xxxxxy, etc.

Now I'm glad I did because this game rules. I seem to get something new out of it each time I play. It's redundant but fresh at the same time.

Thanks Koei and Omega Force for this entertaining series.

Cool. Looking forward to DW9.

DasTier3232d ago

Such a shame the series is so much worse now than it was back in its 4/5th iterations.
