David Cage: L.A Noire tech is 'interesting dead end', Quantic's new approach is the future

Heavy Rain creator David Cage has predicted that photo-realistic graphics will be possible within the next six years - and revealed that he is unconvinced by the long-term potential of new facial capture techniques used to make Rockstar's L.A Noire.

they both look, but close up IMO heavy rain looks better especially in motion

crimsonfox4777d ago (Edited 4777d ago )

I dont think so man... Heavy Rain is one of my favortie games on the PS3 but L.A. Noire looks better in both motion and screen shots...Especially when you take into consideration that L.A. Noire isnt comprised of interactive cut sceens and a sandbox game.

Although heavy rain was good looking i think LA is going to take the proverbial "cake"

gaffyh4777d ago

I agree, LA Noire looks incredibly on the faces at least, better than Heavy Rain. The rest of it probably doesn't look as good as Heavy Rain, but it shouldn't matter that much. If the game is about detecting emotion on people's faces, LA Noire is much better at it, and it should be for a game that's been in production for over 6 years (I believe it was announced at E3 2005?).

Flashwave_UK4777d ago

yeah but have we played it yet no so dont make such Massive claims

Active Reload4777d ago

David Cage...umm...I just don't think Sony is going to throw that kind of money your way. Rockstar's money is too long, they'll always come up with something better to stand out from the bunch. With that said, I'm intrigued as to what Quantic will try to pull off, but Rockstar is rather consistent in their projects.

Commander_TK4777d ago

HR is excellent, but L.A. Noire will be much better.

nveenio4777d ago

Heavy Rain with LA Noire's facial animation would have been freak'n awesome. The facial animations were really the worst part of HR's graphics.

The facial mo-cap in LA Noire is unrivaled. I usually hate it when people deal in absolutes but you would be a fool to think otherwise.

socomnick4777d ago

David cage should not talk.

Heavy rain is an embarrassment. So was indigo prophecy,

MysticStrummer4777d ago (Edited 4777d ago )

I guess one man's embarrassment is another man's award winning, critically acclaimed, multi-million selling game. I don't really agree with Cage here though, unless he's saying that the new tech is meaningless without a good story and character development. LA Noire looks amazing, but when you get right down to it, the facial detail and motion capture in Heavy Rain, GTA4, RDR, Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, and other games is more than good enough to do what LA Noire is going to use it for, which is interrogations. That said... I can't wait for LA Noire.

NiKK_4194777d ago

damn, i just saw you in the other thread, did yu just get back from your "vacation?"

DavidMacDougall4777d ago

Yeah i agree i love Heavy Rain but LA looks better, theres a more human element to it.

RememberThe3574777d ago (Edited 4777d ago )

I have to disagree. The man obviously knows what he's talking about. He's not even saying that Heavy Rain looks better but that his new techniques are more reasonable:

"Their technique is incredibly expensive and they will never be able to shoot body and face at the same time... We see a huge difference between shooting the face and body separately and shooting everything at the same time."

If you watch LA Noire you can see what he's talking about. It looks great for this gen but when your talking about the future you need something that doesn't have that odd separation. You can tell that the body and face are captured separately and to me it looks a bit off.

Even Naughty Dog has their animators do the face work because recording facial animations after the action looks weird. This isn't a new criticism by any means.

Read the article before you comment on something like this.

LA Noire is yet to be released so we cannot judge.

CernaML4777d ago

Although the facial capture in L.A. Noire is absolutely out of this world, I'm going to have to agree with Cage. They need to film the face and body separately. It makes them seem detached.

However, saying that they have better tech are fightin' words. :P
Let's hope he delivers because Heavy Rain really needed work in that department.

realistic graphics= go outside

either artsyle will take over or games will be finished

Fishy Fingers4777d ago (Edited 4777d ago )

Of course it doesnt, photo real will give you the closest way to try out/be involved in situations/experiences you cant have 'outside'.

Example, photo real FPS... Why bother, might as well go outside and shoot people right? Wrong. Or racing games, might as well just go drive my 458 round town at 160mph.

Raendom4777d ago

Well said bubble. Hope you get your seventh. :)

Electroshocked4777d ago (Edited 4777d ago )

Well said bubble from me to...

orion4564777d ago

HAHA.
I'll have to remember that.

I think there's a place for both photo realistic and artistic visuals in games. I mean you can't have a racing sim that doesn't look realistic.

Fishy Fingers4777d ago (Edited 4777d ago )

Bandi/RS will appreciate you jumping to their defense I'm sure...

Yeah got made dollaz from it.

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

Skuletor22d ago

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

Psychonaut8522d ago

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

Demetrius22d ago

Mfs are too sensitive nowadays and would cry instead of being concerned bout real world problems

Demetrius22d ago

Whenever gta 6 launch we won't be getting another rockstar title for another 10 years lol but on the positive side they bou to come back n show how open world supposed to be done 🔥

Skuletor22d ago

I won't expect any singleplayer DLC like IV's The Lost & Damned or The Ballad of Gay Tony after it launches either

12 Years Later, L.A. Noire is Still an Excellent Experience

There was a lot to love about Rockstar and Team Bondi's 2011 open world title.

One I never finished. I've been looking at the ps4 version off Amazon the last few months just never bit

Knightofelemia127d ago

It's worth playing LA Noire is one of my favorite Rockstar games. But I would also check out pawnshops or thrift stores if you want the game dirt cheap. Someone may have been dumb enough to dump the game.

andy85127d ago

Baffles me when people have these opinions about acclaimed games 😂

RhinoGamer88128d ago

100% agree... not perfect, but an engaging/refreshing experience.

sagapo127d ago

Agree, at time of release those facial expressions were amazing! They still hold strong even today imo.
The game on its own was good. Something fresh, but sidequests were a bit meh after a while.

Nacho_Z128d ago

I picked it up on sale recently, going to play it next summer. I'll get more out of it this time, first time around I treated the open world like it was GTA and goofed about, whereas now I'll play it with more respect. RDR2 has trained me well.

I also hadn't read Raymond Chandler at the time so presumably that'll add another layer of enjoyment too.

1nsomniac128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

Absolutely stunning game. So underrated. Played through it again last year and it still stands up so well. Like many of rockstars games it’s actually a far better experience on PC. I didn’t enjoy it as much on console. Completed it at least 3 times on pc.

The rumours of a sequel are awesome news despite the fact I think Rockstar are now the shell of the company they once were.

SyntheticForm127d ago

Team Bondi made a hell of a game.

Six Best Historically Accurate Games

GF365: "Out of the many historically accurate games out there, these are our picks for the six best games that are historically accurate. While these games aren't completely accurate, they depict the times and situations of history well. Plus, they're all a lot of fun to play, too."

Historically accurate from the past is tough to truly know and judge especially the farther you go back because history is written from the people in power and doesn’t mean it’s the truth just the narrative they wanted to tell.

I don’t care about historically accurate in most games because they are games not biographies or history books . Just make the game fun , good gameplay and such .

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t historically accurate in many things but I loved the game . Many examples like it .
