Angry Birds Developer Hits Out at Xbox Live, Microsoft

Angry Birds’ developer, Rovio, has hit out at and criticized Xbox Live and Microsoft.

The lack of frequent or free updates is the biggest problem with XBL. Don't get me wrong, its a great service, but MS' rules pushed away Valve and many other developers, and now the biggest casual game atm.

Imagine Angry Birds Kinect - would have been huge if done right, but the guys at Rovio want to release constant updates, which they simply can't do.

Microsoft are idiots, there way of thinking is antiquated. They've already pushed Valve and Steam on to PS3, Machinarium devs say they don't give a crap about MS anymore and now these guys saying similar things.

MS, you need developers on your side, stop doing idiotic sh*t.

What kind of updates are they referring to? That is up to the game creators not the content delivery service. I get updates on games through live automatically if there is one.

If they are referring to updates as new dlc then that too is the responsibility of the developer. The content delivery service gets a cut but they generally dont mandate the pricing. After all it IS about $$ and these guys are no different when it comes to making $$.

It would probably be like be $5. If you think buying angry birds through live arcade is a good idea then you are not doing your HW as a MS hater. You should hope it comes to the Arcade so you can complain and condemn MS because it would he Hella overpriced.

I dl the demo on psmini and it is stupid with a game pad anyways. Its meant for touchscreen. But why does this game need updates every month???? Games on Xbox have updates all the time, but they dont usually need them so often as this guy wants. Please explain why Angry birds need to have updates every month?? They are upset because its not easy to update the game every month through LIVE, but why does angry birds need so many updates. They could easily sell 50Cent or 1$ expansion packs every few months through live or hold off on the free updates untill they actually have a substantial one ready and release it all at once. If I was MS I wouldnt want to have to have a $1 game updating every month either.

I care little for their opinion. They don't deserve the praise on iTunes, I've had their game for my iPhone 4 and thought it was a temporary fix for boredom but eventually becomes the cause of it. There are so many more brilliant iPhone games more deserving of purchasing.

As much as I think Live is WAY overly restrictive on devs, this Vesterbacka guy has a really warped view of mobile vs. console gaming. He seems to think the former is a legitimate threat, and also sets expectations, for the latter. The two aren't even in the same league.

I think this guy is kind of off base. I don't think they can compare their "app" way of thinking to actual games that cost $60. A $60 game should not require constant updates, you should get $60 worth of stuff that's not broken and buggy, on the disk. There are a few exceptions, like Bethesda games, but they do update their games, without charging, and it's fine, and you get hundreds of hours of playtime from both Fallout & Elder Scrolls.

A $1 app, if they expect to be played in the long run, does require constant updating, because otherwise people would just get another free app and move on.

Truthfully, I am not heartbroken that shitty cell phone games aren't coming to XBL. I'm Team M$ on this one.
