Destructoid Review: Dynasty Warriors 7

You all know the story by now. A new Dynasty Warriors game is released, it sells gangbusters in Japan, but gets trashed by Western reviewers who question why these games still get made, and who on Earth would play them.

Except on Destructoid, of course, where we actually review the games. Feel free to read on, as we review Dynasty Warriors 7.

Comes out tomorrow, but all best buy's computers seemed to of been able to sell it today so it was out on the floor when I went to check.

Dinasty Warriors is the same thing since 5. Not excited.

Spell it right first. The core formula of Dynasty Warriors hasn't changed since its birth, but that is because it works so well and is quite popular. What changed in every game is the amount of content. Whether new features, characters, weapons, modes, whatever. Obviously they wouldn't change the gameplay a whole lot since that is what made the series so popular. Why come here and comment if you don't have any interest in it? It doesn't make sense.

I'll be picking it up on my way to work tomorrow. Sucks though because I probably won't get to play it until Wednesday due to not getting off work until pretty late. Damn responsibilities.

7 looks pretty good to me. Conquest mode seems really fun.

I am a bit sad there's no CAW, though.

And I'm also sad there's no Samurai Warriors for my PS3/60, either. I need some Nobunaga.

The only thing that really irritates me is that .. they separate the games.
Why can't they just combine Dynasty Warriors 7 with Dynasty Warriors 7 : Empires?
The Empires part is the most fun to me, but it's always nice to have the stories, as well.

The couple gripes I have with these games are:
As they said in the review, I wish they'd make the characters even more unique..
You're an officer, there should be a way to control 'your' troops. Tell em what to do.
A personal opinion, I wish they would allow for some character decisions.
As for character decisions, I mean, things like who to go help, when two allies are in danger.
You help one, the other may die. You may choose to help the other, they both die.
Some choices like that, or hell, add in some dialogue choices. To feel like I matter, lol.

Mostly those are just some of the things, I personally would want in the games.

Seeing as Koei and Tecmo merged it would be nice to see some kind off Dynasty Warriors spin off including Dead or Alive characters. I wouldn't be surprised if Tecmo have some kind of clause that excludes the likes of Ryu, Ayane and Kasumi from appearing in anything outside of Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden.

As it stands Hokuto Musou was a nice change of pace, better for fans but otherwise at least it was something really different and it only took them about 7 years to do something other than Dynasty Warriors. :D

Ryu had a cameo in DW: Strikeforce.
