Is Enslaved This Generation's Beyond Good & Evil?

Every generation has one game, one game that is critically acclaimed, innovative, and an all around solid gaming experience that for some reason just doesn’t resonate with the audience. Last generation no game exemplified this better than Beyond Good and Evil. This generation? It's Enslaved.

No Beyond Good and Evil was a good game.

ASTAROTH4779d ago

You are right... Beyond Good and Evil was just awesome. Enslaved is just a good game... BTW are they trying to hype this game more so maybe they can reach the milion mark selling the copies left on stores for 20 bucks?

gorebago4779d ago (Edited 4779d ago )

It's worth $20 bucks just to own and perhaps play every couple of years. I tried to replay it upon beating it and couldn't do it. Not because I didn't like it - quite the contrary, it was awesome but because I had no motivation.

I would like to see a sequel though. It has a closed but open ending.

It was kind of like one giant animated film and I find it hard to rewatch movies right away. I am glad that I just rented it.

Chaos694779d ago

I remeber playing Byond good and Evil at the time and it was trash. Now everyone thinks it's the best game ever.

Same thing will happan for Enslaved; in 10 years time people will be calling it the "game that defined this generation"

PS3Freak4779d ago

This game is worth $20. I enjoyed it, not much replayability, but it was fun while it lasted.

captain-obvious4779d ago (Edited 4779d ago )

crappy game (Enslaved) =/= good game (Beyond Good & Evil)

end of story

AAACE54779d ago

Not a chance for a sequel! The bad thing is that nearly all of Ninja Theory's games went overlooked!

Kung fu chaos (Xbox) was ignored. Heavenly Sword (Ps3) gained little attention, but was ultimately ignored. And now probably the studios final attempt is failing as well.

It's always sad when such a talented developer doesn't know how to interact with the gaming public.

Shane Kim4779d ago

I must be the only one who disliked beyond good and evil.

ASTAROTH4779d ago (Edited 4779d ago )

@CHAOS69

The thing is that Beyond good and Evil was an innovative 90% plus masterpiece.

Enslaved. . . even if it is worth the 20 I payed for on the PS3... is not in the same league. Its just a good game with elements of Prince of Persia and UC2. Not bad but not in the classic status of BGand E.

Ohh and a cult classic is different. It coould be a game with average reviews and sales, but a loved one. Example: FOLKLORE... one of the best game of the generation that almost no one played but the people that do play it love it.

HolyOrangeCows4779d ago

It was a crappy game. The platforming was just short of being automatic and the combat was absolutely nothing special or interesting.

That game was just lucky it had high production values and a pre-written story to poorly rip off, or else not even these persons would write all of these "ZOMG hidden gemz!!!" articles.

Orange4779d ago

I really liked Enslaved. The story is based on a classic tale, and the acting and motion cap was fantastic. But haters gonna hate.

TheDivine4779d ago (Edited 4779d ago )

Yea great facial animation, graphics, story, art design, and most of all it flowed and played so well. Loved the platforming and the ending was great imo. Way better than heavenly sword. The most underappreciated game of this gen behind alan wake if you ask me. I cant believe how people cant hate on this game its one of the best ive ever played.

I_Guts_I4779d ago

Heavenly sword puts this game to shame.

NeoBasch4779d ago

You know, even though it wasn't that great and left a lot to be desired, I still appreciated the effort. It was a worthwhile purchase. I'd love to see what they'd do with a sequel.

Balt 4779d ago

No, but it is beyond bad. Not in a good way neither.

WayneKerr4779d ago

The game was fantastic, Shame about the ps3 fanboy hate campaign.

Lou-Cipher4779d ago

People dont dislike this game because they are PS3 fanboys, they dislike this game because it was a boring game that took a big step back from what they accomplished with Heavenly Sword.

There is no PS3 fanboy conspiracy going on against this game. It sucked no matter what platform/s you might be loyal to.

The game wasn't fun, and Im suprised I even finished it.

Orange4779d ago

"it was a boring game that took a big step back from what they accomplished with Heavenly Sword"

Seriously? Did we play the same games? Tell us what was accomplished with Heavenly Sword that was not accomplished in Enslaved? Other than a 2 hour shorter running time.

Dislike Enslaved all you want, it's a matter of taste, but your comparison to Heavenly Sword is nonsense.

Redempteur4779d ago

@orange

remember the long list of combos when you hit pause with heavenly sword ?

wHere is it in enslaved again ?

boring battles + boring platforming = ?????

wwm0nkey4779d ago

Oh yes Wayne its not because the gameplay was god awful. The story was simi interesting but other than that it was all bad.

Fishy Fingers4779d ago

360s equally shocking sales were due to the PS3 fanboys too?

user8586214779d ago (Edited 4779d ago )

they still upset dante wont be running about with white hair and topless.......

BoNeSaW234779d ago

Shame you think this game was fantastic.

Reibooi4779d ago

There was no PS3 Fanboy hate campaign. It was as simple as the fact that PS3 fans saw Ninja Theory at the top of their game with Heavenly Sword and in most ways Enslaved was a massive disappointment compared to Heavenly Sword(which still had a few issues of it's own but was overall a much better game)

The fact that the game sold so low on BOTH consoles and the fact that it only had average reviews shows that the game didn't turn out as good as it should have. It's a shame because it's most likely a look at what will happen to the DMC reboot which is already off to a terrible start thanks to the new Dante's look which is just laughable.

callahan094779d ago

Good comment, Reibooi. I love my PS3, and I bought Enslaved precisely *because* I was a big fan of Heavenly Sword and thought it was a criminally underrated game, so I wanted to support Ninja Theory and I had faith it would be a good game. I don't know if it's fair to blame PS3 gamers for its relative un-success.

afterMoth4779d ago (Edited 4779d ago )

Everybody is entitle to opinions even if it is horrible tastes in video gaming such like WayneKerr has. People like you give lackluster developers enough hope to put out more games to make a buck.

Enslaved was an interesting idea that was poorly executed in the most important aspect, gameplay! If your core gameplay sucks (which it does in this case), well then I'm not going to want to spend 5 hours or longer playing it.

To be fair, I didn't play more than the demo. but lets be real, it is the developers fault if putting out a crappy demo kills their sells figures. I read the final game didn't fixed the gameplay at all though so I'm not worried about missing anything. The graphics certainly don't improve from the demo.

Orange4779d ago

"To be fair, I didn't play more than the demo."

To be fair, this line says it all.

Soldierone4779d ago

The game was held back. There are plenty of "PS3 Fanboy Hate" things, there are plenty for 360...yet those games still do fine. Cant blame it on that.

PsycheMax4779d ago

Agreed. Enslaved is a good game like Beyond Good and Evil was. Only one thing to add, BG&E was not that masterwork.

Aussiegamer4779d ago

Why is their so many articles about enslaved? I played it finished it, and trust me it wasn't anything special. Lucky I got the game for $20 or I wouldn't have bought it either.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming16d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long16d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming16d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10116d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor16d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6916d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming16d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno16d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming16d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro50d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7250d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_50d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga50d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2350d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200050d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin50d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole50d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix50d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198950d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Michiel198950d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2
