Sales wise, RE5 took a fat dump on Dead Space which shows the power of name recognition over quality (cough.. HALO...cough).

That said RE5 was not a shit game, it just wasn't a very good Resident evil game. The game itself was still fun as hell and probably has the best co-op experience in an action game to date, it just wasn't scary.

Resident Evil 5 was a decent game, but I would love to see an HD remake of Code Veronica, along with others.

Resident Evil 6 should return the series to its roots.

Amnesia is a true survival horror game. Dead Space is like Resident Evil. You are armed to the teeth, and you feel like a badass, instead of feeling weak(which you should feel in a true survival horror game).

But Dead Space isn't as bad as RE5, because the atmosphere in DS is awesome.

Dead Space 1 & 2 are better than any RE game ever made, including RE4 Wii, which I regarded as the pinnacle of survival horror on consoles, until DS.

I don't think copying DS is the right thing to do though. In a sense they already tried that RE5 and RE4 (I wouldn't call Dead Space a copy of RE4, because its more of a copy of System Shock and BioShock).

They need to return to their RE1/2/3 roots instead. I don't personally think RE1/2/3 are as fun as RE4, but LOTs of people will disagree, and there's a neglected audience there, waiting for some good survival horror that isn't as action-oriented as Dead Space and its ilk. They can't one-up Dead Space and BioShock -- they should aim for a different crowd. One that appreciates RE for what it was.

Honestly, even I would consider buying RE again, if it differentiated itself from Dead Space and BioShock. As is (RE5), its just a meek clone of its western brethren.

Capcom just needs to stop trying and move on. The genre they basically made a household staple -- yes there were others before it; Alone in the Dark and Grim Grimoire to name a few -- but none had the appeal of Resident Evil when it first dropped. I don't think that magic will ever be back.

They should be looking to the first Bioshock game, not some space survival horror that will have been inspired by Alien which itself was part of the inspiration for Resident Evil!

They need a good old fashioned gothic mansion in 3D (but with some clever camera angles), the ability to blast your way through it and some more puzzles than Bioshock had.

It's not resident evil the way I remember it :| usually if you go and say this game will give you a lot of ammo and big guns and your goal is to shoot everything (Citizens, US Special Ops, Zombies). I don't think it qualifies as Survival Horror.

They need to back off of those stupid RE mechanics. Can't turn fast enough when shooting, can't move while shooting, enemies are defeated then suddenly regenerate and are twice as hard, etc.

Loved RE4, but then I beat it. Then I never played through it again.
