Looks like someone got their hands on a early copy of Mortal Kombat. Finally we get a screen of the official roster character select screen!

Pretty sure they said Kratos was only available in the non-story modes. It's safe to assume we're looking at the select screen from Story here.

Kratos is in the DLC slot (bottom left and right corners). There is no select screen for story mode, you're taken through chapters of the story with various characters (similar to MK vs DC). Ladder mode is like the traditional MK games where you fight 10 enemies and then see an ending.

The bottom right and left boxes can rotate. That is why there are two cyber subs and arrows.

Also who the heck would approve an article with SPOILERS in the article's pic? Some people don't want to know the hidden characters before they find them themselves.

Edit: Some people here are really blind. How could this be the "story mode select" screen when at the bottom it has the EXACT same options as the VS match select screen?

Finally no one seems to notice the fact that there are two cyber subs and two giant arrows next to each of them.

All of this stuff has been confirmed already through other sources. The leaked achievements confirmed Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan Chi; Australia's AGCB Decision Report confirmed Quan Chi, among other things. Also, NetherRealm's own website has a photo on one of its pages that blatantly shows Smoke's character model on an employee's monitor, which matches the portrait in this leaked screen. Do your research before insulting others and crying fowl.

That's the Extras/DLC slot, which is why there are arrows on both sides of them. And since CSZ is the only extra character at this point, both slots show him.

Im getting this game! But....MK animation is weird.
When MK first came out it was due to using actual stills from video of live actors.
I can't decide if MK would've been better if they just made it with more frames...smoother animation.

I was just thinking the same. It was the realness that separated MK from other games but once they started using digital characters it lost its uniqueness. While this game looks ok I just have that curiosity of what it could have looked like if they still used live actors. Mk 3 is still my favorite. Also the combo system felt better.

The character on the left is Cyber Sub-Zero, not Smoke.

Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan Chi have to be unlocked. There are achievements/trophies for both.

There are an additional 4 hidden characters hidden somewhere in the game. It's unlikely they will be playable. There are achievements/trophies for these as well.

The story mode will take an estimated 15 hours to complete (all characters combined).

The Challenge Tower will take an estimated 8 hours to complete all 300 challenges.

2 DLC characters have been announced already: "Lady in Red" and Kenshi. "Lady in Red" is not a final name, but it's rumored to be Scarlet, a rumored red-clad female ninja in MK2. Kintaro was also rumored to be included in the May issue of GamePro, but this is false information and speculation on GP's part. The 2 DLC characters are NOT on disc, and it's likely that they were announced early in order to expand the bottom row.

Being that many people are confused about this, the two Cyber Sub-Zero portraits are actually the DLC slots, but the way it's presumed to work is the bottom row will actually scroll left/right, hence the arrows on either side. The reason Cyber Sub-Zero is repeated twice is because there's only 3 characters on the bottom row. More than likely, this will be where Kratos appears.

Guys... Can someone tell me when SubZero became the robot form? I love the stories but i'm a bit behind. I thought he was the only survivor of the Lin Kuei that remained human. I know Smoke was caught. It would be great if he's the original SubZero brought back somehow.

You're right, but think of this as a Back To The Future approach to the story. Raiden sends a mental message back to his younger self, warning of the things to come in hopes to change the outcome. Not everything that happened before will happen exactly the same way. In Sub-Zero and Smoke's case, it seems their fate is altered due to this. Maybe it's Smoke's turn to save Sub-Zero?

... i really hate the cover art for this game though. i really wish they went with the original artwork from mortal kombat 1... the dragon symbol. it is classic.

the current box art looks so cheap. there is/was a steelbook edition of this game with the classic art, i think it looks amazing and compliments the game.

i am really looking forward to this game, it is basically the reason i bought my ps3 after being so impressed with the videos of it at the games exhibitions/shows. I wish publishers would put the effort in when it comes to the presentation, as it makes a more complete package.

ms should either put in a killer instict fighter or they should have had ed and the team make a whole new badd ass fighter. ms could have took that idea and turned it into what the fans would want him to look like, what kinda fatalities etc. show him off like a day or so before launch and that imo would have been major hype for the 360 to compete an exclusive as bad ass as kratos. this may be the only game i get for both consoles, assuming ms has got something big as well...

Rain isn't even in this.
Scorpion looks like a Scuba Diver now.
