"I'd like to see even more Steam features that are linked within the PS3/PSN interface itself."

yes please, make this happen, more steam features on PS3 the better!

""But again, some of this stuff is up to the platform holders and what they'll let us do. "

Hopefully sony will give Valve some leg room with steam, who knows we might get to see player maps etc on PS3 steam games, hopefully if they release L4D on PS3 at some point we will be able to download maps made by PC gamers.

Emilio_Estevez4792d ago

I see no reason why they wouldn't, I think it will slowly be integrated, 1 component at a time.

dangert124792d ago

Steam could take potential money away from sony and give it to vavle really what steam is is playstation network i doubt nintendo would allow sony to put there features on a nintendo console that would benifit sony more i think because what has come to the ps3 is minor atm sony don't mind but people will just find out about steam and get a gaming pc and leave the ps3 if vavle got there way with psn or they'd atleast have to pay sony to have features on the ps3

Emilio_Estevez4792d ago

@dang
If it were to involve money, there would def be some revenue sharing.

BattleAxe4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

You have to look at the fact that Valve has over 30 Million users, so its also helping to open up new opportunities for Sony aswell. Imagine if at some point Sony were to start releasing older PS3 game "exclusively" on Steam. In this scenario Sony would have the ability to sell their games to the 30+ Million Steam users, plus the PS3's 49 Million users. The benefits could potentially also go the same way with Steam.

We have no idea what these companies are thinking behind the scenes. I don't think that Microsoft will integrate Steam at all though, mainly because Steam is a massive threat to GFWL, which Microsoft is gearing up to be able to compete better with Steam. Microsoft has the benefit of having a marketplace both on Consoles and on the PC whereas Sony doesn't have a marketplace on PC, so Steam could be the best chance for Sony to take a piece of the PC pie in terms of exclusive game sales.

MaxXAttaxX4792d ago

Steamworks sounds good to me.

evrfighter4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

It all depends on how greedy Sony wants to be with it.

But this is Valve. This is why they stand at the top among developers. It's an age old recipe for businesses that only they seem to follow nowadays.

Put the customer first. But their hands are tied as it's Sony that makes the final call. I'd like to see Sony prove me wrong and allow Valve to do what they want.

Until they do they are no better than M$ imo.

Washington-Capitals4792d ago

Sony needs to make the XMB smoother, it lags wayy too much when im trying to access it ingame. Id rather have something that doesn't look soo good if it performs well.

elmaton984792d ago

Yo daft try to put some commas in your comments from now on so we dont get confuse ( BTW well comment.)

Sony should allow Valve to do a complete overhaul of the PSN

smoothdude4792d ago

I see this being a PSN+ feature, don't you? :(

Mmmkay4792d ago

so what? you should have + by now anyway...

smoothdude4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

@MmmKay

I am a PSN+ member. I was from month one, but I believe this should be something for everyone, not just the ones who have PSN+. I don't believe that we should have to pay to play online.

dead_eye4792d ago

I don't think it will have anything to do with psn+. Maybe discounts if games become available. I really hope Valve rework TF2 with all the stuff pc get that would be awesome.

Vherostar4792d ago

I doubt we will ever see steam on 360 MS likes to corner the market on there console and dont like anybody else having any power whatsoever. It's why they are making a ton of money from the 360.

Stealth20k4792d ago

seems like online game stores are out of the question

Raven_Nomad4792d ago

I actually hope Microsoft doesn't allow this to happen. I think going against P.C. players who use a Mouse and Keyboard is a bit of a disadvantage for the regular controller gamer.

I can see why Ps3 people would be happy to chat with other members though or what have you, hopefully the Valve codecs offer better voice chat quality then the current PS3 voice chat setup allows.

anonym4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

Giving devs the option of using Steamworks doesn't mean every multiplayer game will be required to support cross-platform play. For those who do, it's likely the focus will be on coop anyway in the near future.

Of course, even if devs do allow for cross-platform competitive multiplayer, putting pressure on console manufacturers and developers to include better--or any, for that matter--KB/M support for console games isn't a bad thing. As someone who fairly recently moved to PC gaming, I can tell you that if you ever get used to a keyboard and mouse, you won't miss your controller. Plus it opens up more gameplay possibilities on consoles (more complex RTSs and RPGs, for example).

Raven_Nomad4792d ago

I actually HATE P.C. gaming, it's just not my thing, as I suspect with many other people. I use my computer for work, porn and downloading things, I keep my gaming to consoles and a trusty controller, failing that the Wii or Kinect.

But to each their own, I could see server issues and unfair advantages and that was just my two cents.

Persistantthug4792d ago

I can't say KB/M is better than a controller for everybody.

I can't even say that KB/M is better for MOST for all genre's.

For example, FIGHTING GAMES and games with platform elements, sports and driving.

That said, I'm definitely down with giving everyone the option to use K/M. As is, the PS3 has K/M option and even has games with the option as well.

nickjkl4792d ago

implying

me using my controller couldnt decimate anyone using a mouse and keyboard who is not on my level of gaming

and that me using a mouse and keyboard couldn't destroy anyone using a controller

i hate when people sayy that keyboard and mouse is the end all be all of aiming its like their saying a pc player will rarely miss any shots just because their playing on pc and thats bull shit

Raven_Nomad4792d ago

You could never aim fast enough with a controller against someone who uses a Keyboard and mouse...you just cant.

I remember back a couple of years ago I used to play a Xbox 360 game called Shadow Run, this game also put you up against P.C. players, well you definitely could tell who used the P.C. version because you didn't have time to do anything, it was headshot after headshot, which is why that game died out so quickly and people complained.

XxPURExX4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

on crysis 2 i use my 360 controller on the pc and i go better then when i play it on the 360. So the whole keyboard/mouse will destroy ppl with controllers is bs

Darkfocus4792d ago

@XxPURExX

crysis 2 has autoaim when you have a controller hooked up....people were complaining about it because even if you still use the M/K if you have a controller plugged in you still get autoaim...

nickjkl4792d ago

raven that sounds more like an aim bot

if they were getting head shot after headshot

Ducky4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

A controller simply doesn't give you the precision that a high-dpi mouse does.
That, and the guy with the PC will probably be running that game at a higher resolution, possibly higher fov and at a faster frame rate.

It doesn't mean that someone with a controller has no hope of winning, all it means is that they have a disadvantage as far as FPS games go.

It also depends on the type of game. A controller doesn't stand much of a chance in faster-paced games like Quake or TF2, but can work pretty well in 'tactical' games like BC2 or KZ2.
Maybe console players can return the ass-kicking favour by owning the PC players in a racing game. =)

Buy a better mic. Voice chat sounds perfect for me and my friends. The problem is the people with the shitty mics

Raven_Nomad4792d ago

No, it's not. Check the PS3 official codecs, they are using less then 64k on their voice chat codecs. They are pretty much using PS2 versions for their voice chat.

The background noise, audio levels just aren't there. It's been a huge issue for me since I bought a PS3 years ago and Sony has never done a thing to remedy the issue. I've used all kinds of headsets from USB to $120 Blu tooth, it's just bad thinking and planning on their part.

NukaCola4792d ago

Raven has no clue what his talking about. I use the EYE, my on cellphone headset, and even the new offical sony one, and they all work very well.

dead_eye4792d ago

I used a cheap arse bluetooth headset for years without a problem.

Vherostar4792d ago

PS3 voice is very adequate and better than say teamspeak etc.. It just depends on the game.. Like Saints Row 2 for example the sound quality is appalling but Dead Rising or a modern game its clear as a whistle. The quality of sound is based on game devs online servers NOT sonys codecs.

no please, keep that steam sh*t on PC

plb4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

Are you serious? Steam is a better service than both Live and PSN.

cliffbo4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

it is NOT better it is DIFFERENT!

and @ below live is a service you pay for.
psn is a store you make purchases from that is in typical Sony fashion free to access.

incidentally both steam and psn could live side by side happily.

smoothdude4792d ago

I agree that it is different, however, I also think that it is better. I guess it is just a matter of opinion.

I think the most promising feature for Steam on PS3 is that you can buy a version for the PC and get one for the PS3 for free. I think everyone will benefit from that.

Raendom4792d ago

Steam : Free games without subscription by VALVE, sales every week, huge sales every holiday, free weekend multiplayer events, free DLC, Screenshots, amazing friend list features, server checking without even going in-game, cross game chat (obviously), game invites, in-game web browser, social community page, achievements, co-operation with indie devs (humble bundle available to download for free)...

That's off the top of my head, surely I've forgot something.

Xbox Live and PSN as good as they can be, are no match for Steam. Steam on PS3 is something you'd love to PAY for, but in typical Valve fashion it's free!

Lamarthedancer4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

Imagine TF3 with Steamworks.

We could get the same updates as PC gamers get

Even for L4D3, all the Maps made by them :)

...Hopefully when L4D3 gets announced it will have Zoe, Francis and Louis in......they could even put Bill in if they said the DLC was no cannon....although that's highly unlikely. Still could have a new character though.

I'd be pissed if they had the same dull characters from L4D2 because it meant they could of had the L4D characters in L4D2 in the first place

il-mouzer4792d ago

do you really care about sequels so much?

Lamarthedancer4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

Considering Valve fucked up the L4D franchise with L4D2 when they could of just supported L4D like they were supposed to then yeah....yeah I do.

Heres a question for you

Do you really care that much about other peoples opinions or are you just being a twat

Ducky4792d ago (Edited 4792d ago )

"Considering Valve fucked up the L4D franchise with L4D2 when they could of just supported L4D."

So now you want them to release another sequel instead of supporting the current L4D games? O.o

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica49d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31349d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Friendlygamer49d ago

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer48d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies

Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG

Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name56d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno56d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno56d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure56d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
