VGW: Despite being inaccurately labeled as a failure from everyone to gaming websites to industry analysts to, presumably, THQ’s own stockholders, Homefront just sold through 1 million copies across North America, Europe, and Asia in just over one week.

Funny, that doesn’t sound like failure to us.

The word 'failure' is subjective in this case. If you like the game, play it. If not, then don't.

But one million sold and over 2 million shipped does say something. I personally believe the reviewers were a little too hard on this game.

So many of them wrote the game off because of 'bugs' and it is admittedly buggy, but it just shows the industries occasional bias. Fallout: New Vegas (one of the glitchiest games I've ever played) won GOTY awards and did NOTHING new that previous games hadn't done before.

Homefront has the battlepoint system and battle commander modes, both of which I've never seen done in a game, and people still fault it for 'lack of innovation'.

Haha this was how much KZ3 was suppose to sell on launch day. To bad Guerilla Games dumbed down KZ3 for CoD noobs. So all that enjoyed KZ2 didn't buy it. Maybe they'll learn their lesson for KZ4.

Any game could sell 1 million copies given that kind of marketing push. You spend as much money as THQ did advertising Homefront, you shouldn't act surprised when it breaks a million sold.

So true! The reviewer inconstancy with what add/detracts points is getting ridiculous. It's like they already have their opinion based on how much they like the dev and their anticipation (hype) before playing the full game and then nitpick or ignore the exact same flaws based on how much they wanted to love the game and on developers previous record.

Some games surprise them but most are strongly affected by preconceived notions of what they want to be good before actually fully playing the game.

Ha! good one. Everyone is jumping to defend Homefront despite it's low scores but as soon as games like KZ3 and MS:A get a score lower then an 8 it's a 'faliure' and a crappy game.Even when games like UC2 make 4 million it is still a 'failure' because it didn't sell 8 million and up.

I don't know why anyone even bothers to give scores for games anymore. People defend what ever they want to defend. UC2 got perfect scores all around and more then one hundred awards and GOTY and people still think it undeserving. Give Homefront is getting a 5s and 4s and suddenly it is not fair and it deserves better.

That doesn't make it a failure, A dictionary might help you in this case but ill go ahead and try to explain it myself anyways. If a game earns its developer a profit, then it is not a failure by any accurate use of the word. A crap game, possibly, but not a failure.

Twisted Metal will have better multiplayer than any other game in 2011. It might be my new favorite game of all time. Best multiplayer ever. Mark my words.

It's just another FPS. It's not that innovative, just has prettier graphics than BF:BC2. Twisted Metal puts gameplay before graphics and us gamers should want that.

Twisted Metal looks like the most innovative game of 2011 to me.BF3 has fighter jets Twisted Metal has attack helicopters. Twisted Metal is car combat at it's finest. Twisted Metal is the longest running Playstation franchize. The first of 9 TM games and Jaffe says the new Twisted Metal will be the best game in the franchize. I'm dying to play it.

The original Twisted Metal on PS1 was my first game. Me and my friends grew up playing all the Twisted Metal games. Twisted Metal games have great stories, super fun gameplay, impressive visuals and art style, great single player and multiplayer. Twisted Metal 2 was the best split screen multiplayer game on the PS1 imo. All 9 Twisted Metal games so far have all been great games. You can't imagine how happy I am that David Jaffe, Scott Cambell and their team are making a Twisted Metal remake for the PlayStation 3.

The WHOLE BF series has helicopter, jet, tank, car, truck, infantry, naval AND hovercraft combat AT ITS FINEST.

Normally? It is shady and is meant to maximize first day sales. Food for thought though - and I don't mean for this to come off as fanboyish - but Sony typically has embargos in place WEEKS before their games release (LBP2, Killzone 3, etc). As a reviewer, it's also pleasant working with Sony because they always seem to have full confidence in their product.

I don't have an issue with an embargo on reviews...because I have free will to buy a game day one or wait a few days. Free Will is an amazing thing for a consumer.

FPS games are big right now. I knew all the promotion by Microsoft and THQ would pay off. It's a solid game, it has some bugs, but nothing compared to some other games I've played recently.

People complaining about the short campaign should feel grateful they get one at all, I mean look at Warhawk, Socom Confrontation and MAG, three full priced game that lacked ANY CAMPAIGN WHATSOEVER.

The real gem of Homefront is the online anyway, which as of right now is pretty solid.

Excellent point Raven! Would all have been happier with out the Single Player? I highly doubt it..since Kaos got railed for Frontlines not having a Single Player campaign element.

I am very glad to see this game doing well. It means we will get a Homefront 2... :)

I bought this game the first night and haven't touched it since. The marketing and advertising and videos before release really got me sold on it. Although I don't think its a horrible game, I just don't feel compelled to play it. So I pretty much bought the game, just so articles like this can be written, and i think they got a million sold under false pretense.

False pretense? Thats a bit harsh. What was false about what they sold to you? Did it not have a Single Player element? Did your copy not include the online multiplayer?

Now if you are here to say you didnt' care for the game, it wasn't to your liking, or you weren't willing to deal with some of the bugs for online (mind you EVERY game that has MP these days has bugs and glitches galore when they come out)... then sure that is your right. But that is hardly being sold something on false pretense.

The game is not that bad its just the market is flooded by other FPS games the campaign could have been longer and it could have used a free for all mode. I appluad THQ for trying something new if they create another FPS I would buy it. But I would not call the game a failure by far. Lost Oddesy Journey to West was a great game and it sold like crap and I don't call that a failure. A failure is a game you get and when you unwrap package and find out the game is utter crap like Lost Planet 2 or Haze those are what a person would call a failure for games.

I dunno... outside of the occasional problems like "system freezing" which I have experienced since day 2... and outside of the stats not updating..

I love the game... it feels exactly like your issued rifle after you get off the zero range... but you never had to zero the rifle because it was spot on.

Homefront is a good game...its not epic or great...its just good overall. And more importantly, its online is indeed great even with the older looking graphics. Just goes to show you what a game with a great online mp component can overcome.
