StrengthGamer's Anthony Accinelli writes, "Mortal Kombat will always hold a soft spot in my heart. I’ll never forget those rebellious gaming moments when I would have to sneak away from my parents in the local shopping mall to play. Being that I was only a small child, the intense violence and gore was clearly not permitted by the ‘ol parentals."
Trevor Walker said: Fighting games have always been able to simultaneously experiment and innovate while staying true to their roots in the best of ways. Mechanics change, crossovers take place, and evolution occurs. One of the best examples of all three can be seen in the coveted guest character.
The fighting genre is full of mini-games, from Street Fighter's car destruction to Tekken Ball. Here's the best Mortal Kombat mini games.
Cultured Vultures: We've gone to the trouble of ranking the Mortal Kombat games across the series' history. Special Forces is clearly number one.
My favorite is always going to be Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I know some people didn't like the addition of the run button. But, man that game is burned into my memory from childhood, lol.
MK2 will always be the best in the series. Been playing a lot of MK1 lately though. Definitely enjoying it more than any other NRS era MK game.
I will always have a special place in my memory for MK 1 and 2. You had to be there during that era at the arcades. Martial arts tournament fighting movies were still popular, and MK 1 was exciting. Real life motion captured characters done well (unlike Pit Fighter). A cast of characters we all liked like Bruce Lee(Lui Kang), Van Damme(Johnny Cage), the Lightning god(Raiden) from Big Trouble in Little China, and Ninjas, gotta have Ninjas. Goro was menacing as hell. The MK arcade had some of the best speakers similar to Killer Instinct as you could hear the loud crisp and bassy sound that was distinctly different than other arcades. MK 2 improved greatly on the controls and fighting mechanics
Yeah, the fatalities I've seen in the demo are cool...but the only one I've seen that made me cringe was Kano's. The game is INCREDIBLE IMO...but I agree they could have pushed the fatalities even further.
EDIT: Also, Scorpion's X-ray attack gets old quick.
My only complaint is the demo was too easy.
Taken from the wiki. I want more then just fatalities personally. I miss the animality and brutality the most.
Finishing moves
Main article: Fatality (Mortal Kombat)
Mortal Kombat introduced Fatalities, finishing moves that allow players to end a fight by killing their opponent in a gruesome manner.[16] It was developed in order to give gamers a free hit at the end of the fight.[17] Finishing moves in later games included:
* Friendship, in Mortal Kombat II, "[which] include[s] giving opponents a present or a bouquet of flowers, instead of killing them",[18]
* Animality, in Mortal Kombat 3: turning into an animal to violently finish off the opponent,[19]
* Mercy, where the victor gives a little health to the opponent,[19]
* Brutality, in Mortal Kombat Trilogy: bashing an opponent into pieces with a long combination of hits or combo
* Babality "[where] your opponent turns into a baby."[18]
* Deception added the Hara-Kiri (as described by GameSpot, "[...] the hara-kiri, or self-fatality. Basically, players who have lost a match have the ability to punch in a command to perform a self-fatality"), to allow the losers to engage in a suicide-based finishing move, creating a race between both players to see if the winning player can finish off the losing player before the losing player can kill himself.[17][20]
The Babality and Friendship moves were created as a satirical non-violent finishing move, a sarcastic swipe at the U.S. congressional Investigation for Violence in Videogames who came down harshly on the Mortal Kombat games.
I thought the demo was pretty sweet but I expected more on the graphics side.
"A finishing move along the lines of Scorpion impregnating Sonya, ripping the baby out of the womb, using said fetus to bash Sonya's head off, then devouring the child should do the trick."
okay this dude (the author) is really messed up...
