Homefront 2 will be longer, but no longer than ten hours

Kaos Studios’ David Votypka has dropped more information about Homefront 2, the sequel to the developer’s only-just-released blockbuster shooter. It’ll be longer than the first game, he said – but don’t expect an epic single-player campaign.

10 hrs. is long for this day and age. Gone are the days of the Halo: Combat Evolved and Half Life 2 lengthy single player campaigns. Production costs and multiplayer did them in.

It's not uncommon for a sequel to be in the design phase while the first game releases.

Not only that but the price of the game just dropped to almost $40! Not very promising for a new IP, I think this whole thing turned into another MOH situation where the hype backfired on them. Developers need to learn that they can’t hype mediocrity and expect people not to notice when they play the game <_< if you’re going to hype something it better be damn amazing...

its a good game. I'm usually not one to defend a game, but all the negativity surrounding homefront is really annoying me for some reason. I know everyone has the right to their opinions but basing your opinion on something you have spent no time with is no basis for an opinion at all.

The single player is ok and on the short side, but the multiplayer is very fun.

I definitely agree with you, and personally I am glad they will be releasing a second because I hope in doing so they will be able to get the true scores they deserve so that more people will actually play the game rather than shrug it off without even trying it.

It's a new IP. It's going to have issues. Now that the game is out the developers can listen to feedback from fans to make the second game better.

If it really is a 10 hours campaign, I can't see the problem. Most shooters to day have less than a 10 hours campaign anyway.

Well, what some FPS games do is drag on a scenario to extend game-play time... such as having long continuous corridors with endlessly spawning enemies.

With Homefront, although I am disappointed that the campaign is too short, I'm still grateful they didn't go for the cheap tricks and went with 4~5 hours of packed quality instead of diluting it over 10 hours.

... and I hope they keep the tradition with a sequel.

I know I'm not.
This generation of video games has been a real let down in my opinion.
We ended the last generation of consoles with large amounts of variety, single player experiences that warranted the purchase and decent length material.

Now however we have an abundance of shooters which are all becoming non distinct from one another.
Well known developers changing their desired product in order to appeal to the CoD market.

My 2 favourite experiences on PS2 were: Max Payne 1 and Resident Evil 4.

Both were corridor shooters but it did not in the slightest deter from the experience. Not in any way did it feel as though they were just throwing stuff in there for the sake of lengthening, but that it needed to be there.

Developers are becoming sloppy (Alot, not all) with single player length. There's no excuse other than a lacking story.

Im and SP guy and payed full price for singularity, so for this this game ill wait until gets cheaper for pc
