THQ's Dipping Stock Blamed on So-So Homefront Reviews

When you tell people you need to sell 2 million copies of your big-budget FPS to break even, you had better deliver. But it's hard to do that when people are giving your game middling "C" scores.

And people think reviewers aren't bias and hold power to a degree. More over, you don't think these foolish buffoons are payable in return for favorable.

This business sucks monkey **** when you think about it. It's not the best product that wins, it's the best marketed.

my thing is though what so-so reviews are they talking about im seeing mostly 8s-8.5s to 9s, with the occasional 7s. overall i think the games is getting good reviews.

AhnnQuirajj4829d ago

I think I saw a story on here about one of the devs saying they need to get better scores, that "Good" has become the new "Bad", which I can believe.

I think the game looks decent IMO but will try it when I get the chance... make sure its a rental for me.

guigsy4829d ago

I think it will still sell pretty well. Medal of Honor got similar reviews and it sold well. I think they've marketed it well enough.

I do agree with you, but THQ shouldn't have put all their eggs in one basket. Look at Square-Enix, they're trying to take on the American market by spreading across of number of solid-looking games like Just Cause 2, Deus Ex, Dungeon Siege, etc.

Plus, the shooter genre is hard as hell to bust into if you don't have the graphics or ground-breaking multiplayer.

Just Cause 2, Deus Ex, and maybe even Dungeon Siege 3 were all products of Eidos that Square Enix picked up. The main reason they bought Eidos was as a result of breaking into the mainstream western market, something they couldn't do alone without help.

palaeomerus4829d ago

Those games are being published by Square Enix because Square Enix bought Eidos.

Just compare Homefront reviews to Blops'. Reviewers are either slobbering fanboys or gutless shills if Homefront is not comparable, nevermind quite a bit better, than Treyarch's disaster.

BakedGoods4829d ago

I wouldn't say BLOPS is a disaster, but you raise a good point.

I'm sure Homefront's single player is on part if not better than BLOPS--yet it gets burned for it.

Lamarthedancer4829d ago

Isn't the whole point of reviews is to be honest and tell people what the game is like.

If it's getting "middling "C" scores" then theres nothing you can do about that.

It still got some decent reviews

if you love fps - B
If you like fps - C ----this is me.
if you hate fps= F

An intro to Biomutant

Alex & Mike talk Biomutant, a game from Experiment 101/THQ Nordiq you likely have not heard of. While the AAA side of the industry tends to homogenization and imitative, cinematic presentation, “AA” games remain creative and innovative in 2021. Drawing on inspirations as varied as Dark Souls, third person shooters & kung fu cinema, Biomutant is Ratchet & Clank on acid, developed by a team of 20 people.

THQ's Golden Wii, Meant for the Queen of England, has been Found

Remember THQ? They published such games as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Darksiders I & II, the Destroy All Humans series, Homefront, the Red Faction series, and Saint's Row 1-3. Almost as famous as their games were the THQ marketing stunts, including a Golden Wii.
