PAX East 2011: Hands on With Star Wars: The Old Republic

There is always at least one game at conventions that people will line up for hours to play. Star Wars: The Old Republic had dedicated fans waiting anywhere from two to eight hours to play. Hundreds of disappointed gamers were turned away from the long lines and didn’t get the chance to play, but guess what? I’m a lucky bastard and I got to play it.

It's a great looking game and I can't wait to play it when it comes out! I want a wookie sidekick!

Better be good for a $400 million price tag. Fingers crossed.

So far it looks great. It's the end game that makes or breaks this one. It's all well and good to have a great story while leveling, and make that fun, but once you hit the end you need good PvP and fresh content to keep coming out.

It will take them longer to make additional content with all the voice acting and cutscenes that they'll need to do, so hopefully they have enough ready to go at launch so we all don't get bored after a month.

May have to get a new computer for this one....

Doubt it's a graphics hog. Part of WoW's success is the fact you don't need much of a PC to run it on. Going by videos this seems the same way.

8800gt will probably max it out!

It will run smoothly on a medium rig, but don't be fooled: This game can look amazing on high settings and you'll need more than an 8800gt to max out the graphics. If you have a DX11 card, you'll see some great visual effects. It's actually really good looking.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Still Receiving Updates 11 Years Into Release

I loved this game and have played since launch but don't let this article fool you, this game is a step above life support. While they are still technically updating the game, the updates are few and far between and there is a significant lack of quality control, so many little bugs that have been present for years.

The updates felt flimsy to me also. Stopped playing in 2021.

This game got a huge update last year didn't it with more content?

PapaBop407d ago

They promoted it as an expansion yet offered like 3-4 hours of content. The game is amazing and easily one of the best Star Wars games ever made but content drops are so few and far between.
