CVG: Homefront Review

CVG: We'd go so far to say that this is the classiest, best value multiplayer shooter on the market, comfortably bettering both recent CoD monsters and edging ahead of Bad Company 2. It deserves a wide, fully engaged audience.

Agreed BC2 is absolutely awesome online, take something really special to better it for me personally. I'll definitely give Homefront a chance though. You never know CVG might be right, it might be one of the best mp experiences out there.

Anytime someone use words like classiest mean review is a joke. How is a multiplayer game classy?

Does it use high vocabulary? Are there nice chandeliers and silverware present in it? Do you have to wear a suit jacket to play it? Seriously. I want reveiws not some stupid play on words.

Wow CVG gave Call of Duty Black Ops a 9.3 and they gave HF a 8.6 even though they said that its a more classier game than COD.

I dont get it.

CoD might have an edge in SP (perhaps?) or maybe extra value due to Zombies/DeadOps.

I was wondering the exact same thing. In all honestly and this is obviously my own opinion...unless it has destructible environments, it can't top BC2.

Not that ive seen. Almost every video i have seen is environment destruction absent. The vehicles go boom quite nicely though......lol

Don't believe it does, but I'll second the nice boom. I was watching some actual multiplayer gameplay on Youtube and it looks amazingly fun. A lot of nice booms :)

I am still wondering if there is anything unique about the multiplayer. MoH had some solid gameplay but not managed to hold one's attention for more than five minutes due to a grave lack of originality

look up video on youtube, you can see that destructible enviornment is not part of Homefront multiplayer. Its more like COD in that department.

Ignoring the COD comparisons (the less this game is like COD, the better); a good score for a new IP. Too many games these days have way too much hand holding with the squad/team approach. I miss the days of the lone soldier, the feeling of isolation with the Odds stacked against you. But maybe I'm old school.

Is there environmental destruction?

Only low-level, mostly superficial destruction – why you ask? Our Creative Director, Dave Votypka has this to say about environmental destruction:

"In pre-production we experimented with dynamic destruction, but found that this actually detracted from the experience. We use what we call ‘environmental narrative’ throughout our level design to tell the story of occupied USA, and allowing this environment to be destroyed takes away a lot of what we achieve with this. In multiplayer, because of our focus on lots of vehicles with heavy firepower on the map at all times, destruction would remove a lot of the structures we placed there to support the infantry game and help balance that infantry versus vehicle mechanic. For example, in our map ‘Farm’ there’s a wooden church with a belfry that’s perfect for sniping. If we allowed this to be destroyed early in the game, it would remove that tactical option from the map for the rest of the match."

The campaign was really bad, one of the worst in FPS for a long time...however the multiplayer is good and alot of fun.

I'll rent the game and wait until it's £12 or so in 6 months time. Money saved for Crysis 2.

im sick of games creating a single player thats onyl a few hours long and getting a free pass cause of multiplayer. I want a amazing story that has some length and isnt over in an afternoon. they may as well have just made this a multiplayer only game given the campaigns lenght.

the big maps are putting me off, i hate the larger maps in cod & battlefield, too much ground to make up after u respawn.
