Dragon Age II sales: Xbox 57%, PS3 22%

More copies of Dragon Age II were sold on Xbox 360 across UK shops than any other platform - by far.

Chart-Track told Eurogamer this morning that Xbox 360 commanded 57 per cent of the total, whereas PS3 managed only 22 per cent.

The remaining 21 per cent was attributed to PC. Chart-Track doesn't count digital sales, such as those made on Steam.

sounds like ps3 gamers listened to all the pc gamers complaining. i wasn't a fan of the pc demo but the game is surprisingly good. some things are worse than the first game but a lot of things are better.

NukaCola4794d ago (Edited 4794d ago )

Dragon Age II has gotten a lot of mediocre reviews on top of it. The demo was weak as hell and most people I have talked to have told me they are not impressed with it. Still number one tho.

@Cloudberry

Motorstorm should do pretty good. The reviews are positive and racing games do very well in europe.

kerrak4794d ago

Spot the differences:

dcuo has meh sales
kz3 has meh sales
lbp2 has meh sales
mlb11 has meh sales
ds2 has meh sales
da2 has meh sales
mvc3 has meh sales
MSA, socom4, y4, inf2, crysis2, LANoire, portal2 approaching in the next few weeks/months

vs

ds2 has good sales
da2 has good sales
mvc3 has good sales
crysis2, LANoire, portal2 approaching in the next few weeks/months

LORD-PHOENIX4794d ago

in two months ps3 owners are still going through dcuo,me2,lbp2 and kz3

hay4794d ago

Well, demo wasn't very appealing. While I play demos few times I couldn't finish DAII demo even once, it was appaling.

Ranshak4794d ago

PC gamers have a game like witcher 2 coming up, why buy this when Witcher 2 is cheaper, looks better, isnt linear and looks like an overall better game.

Personally i will be buying DA2 on steam when its dirt cheap and includes all the DLCs. No way i am paying for day 1 dlcs.

Mystogan4794d ago

And they Say 360 owners only do Shooters.

BrutallyBlunt4794d ago

Looks like Playstation 3 owners prefer shooters like Killzone 3.

See how stupid that sounds?

I really dont understand this elitism on N4G where we must act like we are better than them. Some of this may have to do with marketing. Plus we all know the XBOX360 does well in the UK.

The thing is we are all gamers so lets act like it shall we?

jeseth4794d ago

@ Kerrak

You just proved how many awesome games PS3 owners have had to choose from vs. 360 owners.

Thanks for telling us what we already know.

Based on your lists :
The PS3 owner would have had to drop $420 (plus tax) on games so far this year.
The 360 owner . . . just $180 (plus tax).

Not everyone can afford 2-3 games a month (PS3), but most people can afford 1 (360). Not to mention, the only good games on your list are multiplat for 360 while PS3 has several.

Anon19744794d ago (Edited 4794d ago )

Ok, so in the UK, there's something like 6 million 360's and 4 million PS3's. So between the 360 and PS3, the PS3 accounts for about 40% of the UK market. Between the 360 and PS3 DA2 sales, the PS3 version accounts for about 30% of sales between the two consoles.

Shouldn't this 30% be expected given the userbase of both consoles in the UK? I mean, I fully expect more copies of DA2 to be sold on the 360 in the US as well - because there's more 360's there. Seems like kinda a no brainer to me. Of course the bigger market buys more copies of the game.

.
I assume PS3 owners in UK probably prepped their money for Motorstorm: Apocalypse or Yakuza 4.

More / less 3 new console games in a week.

I for one have to choose only Yakuza 4.

Tight money too.

Mr_Bun4794d ago

It was either this or some kinect shovelware....where would you spend your money if you were a 360 only owner?

Inside_out4794d ago (Edited 4794d ago )

.
Dead Space 2
Black Ops map pack
Bulletstorm
Dragon age 2
Homefront ( this week )
Crysis 2 ( next week )

....and it's only March. If you want to spend all your money there is alot of games to buy.

BTW...I have ALL consoles....but, I spent a couple hours playing Crysis 2 beta on 360 last night and that was for FREE...lol...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

BTW...in case you haven't figured it out...I win.

Mr_Bun4794d ago

Hey Cez

That's fantastic that you have all 3 consoles. I'm sure you must be as proud as Charlie Sheen for "winning"...but there are obviously quite a few more choices for PS3 owners.

Why are you mentioning games that aren't out yet....and a demo?

I'm just pointing out the obvious...you seem to have taken offense. As there are more options, would it not make sense that the purchases from a PS3 owner would be spread over a greater area instead of focused?

Cenobia4794d ago

@cez of rage

You can play online with the 360 for free now?!

When did that happen?

"Chart-Track doesn't count digital sales, such as those made on Steam."

And I bet 90% of PC owners bought theirs digitally, too.

Ranshak4794d ago

lol true.

Not count Steam is like, counting the digital sales of a console release and ignoring the reatail numbers.

Amphion4794d ago

This is because PS3 owners have other games to play.

Daver4794d ago

with Mortal Kombat, Portal 2 and Socom 4 just around the corner I mean all on April 19th! I had to pass on Dragon Age 2 and it didn't impress me that much.

And still it was no1 in the PS3 only chart, wow.

THC CELL4794d ago

Working in a game store my sell. I note places like blockbuster will put games at number one in the charts go get them to sell. True

Shazz4794d ago

I've got top spin 4 , yakuza 4 and motorstorm to try get this week so I didn't even consider dragons age atm

SnakeShady4794d ago

I've played the Ps3 version. I'm a big fan of Dragon Age origins...but Dragon Age 2 sucks, and when i say "sucks" i mean "A LOT".

DrHouse4794d ago

I agree, the second game is watered down alot.

HolyOrangeCows4794d ago

They made really unnecessary changes to the combat, gave it more cutscenes, and didn't make it as long. Not to mention the surprise SecuROM DRM and silencing of critics.

Frankly, I hope it sells poorly on ALL of the systems. What has been done to Dragon Age is NOT acceptable.

schlanz4794d ago (Edited 4794d ago )

It only sucks a little. Still a fun game imo, people are blowing things way out of proportion as usual.

EA Made Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC Free On PC By Retiring The BioWare Points System

Immersed Gamer writes: "In order to replace the oppressive BioWare Points system, EA is making a large portion of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC catalogs free for PC users.

For those of you blissfully unaware, EA and BioWare employed a payment system called BioWare Points on PC to pay for DLCs for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While PC gamers have been struggling with BioWare point’s unfair conversion rates and extremely scarce and cost-detrimental sales.

Console players have been allowed to purchase content in pieces through the appropriate Sony and Microsoft shops. For real money, and not BioWare monopoly bucks. In turn, console players missed out on some DLC content, such as Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonuses that have been repackaged into a DLC pack."

Great response to Ubisoft and their disgusting behavior. Ubisoft decide to take away DLC from people who paid for it, while EA give it for free to everyone when they realize their system sucks. Who would have thought that EA of all companies would be showing Ubisoft how it should be done (even if this is EA fixing their own mistakes as well).

Mobis-New-Nest652d ago

What goes around comes around and I promise you, Ubisoft will see their actions blow back on them when their diminishing sales numbers and stock taking a hit downward. That's the only way a company learns when they decide to be reactive instead of proactive.

All BioWare Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "There was a time that BioWare games were the biggest deal in gaming. The Canadian developer’s legacy of all-time classics is well known. Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, and Baldur’s Gate are some of the biggest names in gaming.

While BioWare’s quality has fallen off lately, there’s no denying the quality of titles in their portfolio. That’s why we’re going to dive in and rank every BioWare game from worst to best. By every, I do mean every BioWare game, even the ones you completely forgot about!"

Ranked from worse to even more worse more like, they been on free fall for a fair few years now and I personally don't think any of there earlier games have aged well

autobotdan811d ago

Wow to think at one point in their history they made a Sonic the Hedgehog game..crazy

chicken_in_the_corn811d ago

Anthem is crazy underrated. I really enjoyed it. ME1 is Bioware's best imo

Michiel1989811d ago

I actually put quite a bit of hours into Anthem but i dont think its underrated. It was a huge mess, server issues, gameplay issues, crashes, no endgame loop, too few different enemies, uninteresting gear. too few dungeons.

It for sure had potential and if they could have managed to keep the same gameplay of the classes but without the rest of the issues, this game could have been huge, but in the state in which it launched it was such a letdown. They partly fixed some of the issues, but it took too long. A grinding game like this needs to hook players from day 1.

'Dragon Age' and Why It Sucks to Play Cult Favorite Games

Delving into a well-loved game or series years after its release, when it already has an enthusiastic and devoted fanbase, can be incredibly difficult. People can be casually mean on the internet without intending to, and that happens a lot when you say you don’t like something they do. Fans of the franchise take their love of the game very seriously. They’re fervent and devoted, which has its charms, but it can also feel like you’re disappointing them when you decide their thing is not your thing.

Snakeeater25934d ago

All dragon age games are terribly boring

Kerppamaister934d ago

Why'd you play DA2 if you thought 1 was boring?

Snakeeater25934d ago

Because of the reviews, I thought they could do better specially gameplay wise and the third one was even worst

spss11934d ago

I've never been able to complete a Dragon Age game. They always felt too rigid in design. I eventually think "why am I playing this over Witcher 3?" or pretty much any other rpg.

arkard934d ago

The same reason you read a different book, or watch different movies. Different world, characters, lore and story.

jeromeface934d ago

Idk, because maybe you completed the witcher 3? Not all of us like repeating a game over and over just because its the best in genre.

spss11934d ago (Edited 934d ago )

@arkard
Never found the story or lore of DA interesting. Inquisition was just generic evil dude with demon army wants to conquer world and you're the chosen one.

@jeromeface
I've played through Witcher 3 once, at the same time I was playing DA Inquisition. Hence the example. I never finished Inquisition and went on to complete Witcher 3.

Yui_Suzumiya934d ago (Edited 934d ago )

Well the first bored me but I loved 2 and 3. I could never get into The Witcher or Elder Scrolls but I enjoyed those as far as medieval themed RPG's go.

SegaSaturn669934d ago

I played inquisition and thought the story was pretty well done. Voice acting as well.

Lost interest when i found an ultimate weapon that could only be wieldable postgame. Like wtf would they let me even obtain it for?

phoenixwing934d ago

Is it really a cult following if it's in the millions?

IanTH934d ago (Edited 934d ago )

lol Definitely a fair point. When a game is made and published by one of the largest video game companies on Earth, has at least 12 million sales between DA:O/DA2/DA:I, DA:I noted as being BioWare's most successful launch, and made EA enough money to greenlight a 3rd game? I'm thinking it's tough to argue that's niche :-p

If you take cult following on the face of it - a group of people who are highly dedicated & passionate about something - the author wouldn't be wrong. But they have to know that term is most widely associated with the group being small/the object being obscure, so it can't really apply here.

melons934d ago

Yeah, in what universe is a series with three games, a fourth on the way that's sold millions and is published by EA a "cult favorite"? Next you'll be telling me The Witcher 3 is a plucky and underrated indie.

IanTH933d ago

I've heard about this hidden gem called GTA V...

jznrpg934d ago (Edited 934d ago )

Cult favorite? It’s well known and sold fairly well and they are making a fourth game . I don’t see it anywhere near cult favorite status . I really enjoyed the first game and the third was pretty good (with failed mmo faults you could notice) but the second game was lazily made garbage .

Yui_Suzumiya934d ago

Second was the best game which is the biggest hot take I've ever had, lol

ElvisHuxley934d ago (Edited 934d ago )

Loved the first one, second was pretty good. Couldn't even get through the third one. Don't have high hopes for 4, but hey, nowhere to go but up hopefully.

moomoo319934d ago (Edited 934d ago )

DA: Origins was cool, but I got Mass Effect 2 at the same time and goddayum there was no comparison imo.
