TGN: Homefront Review

If you are a fan of the first person genre than Homefront should be in your collection. It is a breath of fresh air in a genre that tends to recycle the same old thing. In Homefront, home is indeed where the war is. Will you join the resistance?

Homefront is a recycle of the old ideas, mechanics and so on

Most things created in media are a recycle of old ideas and mechanics, it's not the devolopers fault that it's almost impossible to create something that's completely original.

ColecoVision4796d ago

Your pretty lucky to have gotten a copy of Homefront already, but your review was rather short. Can you give us a much longer review of why you don't like the game?

NanoSoldier4796d ago

I already have the game and I'm on mission 4 on my PS3. It's a very good game. It looks like a mix of Metro, Mag, CoD and Stalker and plays very fine. The campaign is good so far and I think it could be the new blast online, feels and looks very realistic at least on PS3 what I've seen. Good textures, lightning etc. I can really recommend this game on PS3. Other Versions I did not see and can't tell.

gorebago4796d ago

You grave so was Darksiders and i LOVED that game - it was the best of everything it borrowed

ASTAROTH4795d ago

Funny thing is that people complained and criticized other FPS, (specially PS3 exclusives ones) for just trying to be COD clones, this in at least in the MP department a COD clone and everybody is praising it because it is multiplatform and have a 360 exclusive map... LOL!!! The media . . . they dont sease to impress me.

Ohh BTW graphics arent the most important thing on a FPS, but when MAG arrived everyone complained about the graphics... you know what? This game looks similar to MAG... specially the characters models. Where are the people complaining?

Come on !!!! Its not a bad game by any means but people here on these site are pathetic. Maybe its real that the PS3 has higher standards....

How are all these unknown sites putting up reviews but none of the bigger ones?

Drjft4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

Because no doubt they have downloaded the Xbox 360 .iso that was leaked days ago and are playing that.

EDIT: There's also a PS3 iso leaked, too.

Izanagi-no-Okami4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

And a PC version (Steamworks) that can't be cracked until release.

shooterexpert4796d ago

yea ps3 version is leaked too, friend has the ps3 version downloaded but I don't want to spoil by watching him play.

360 version will get bought on tuesday.

bozebo4795d ago

Funny how the ps3 and 360 versions are already cracked and playable and it is harder to pirate it on pc (before release)... Funny how publishers use the stock argument of "there is too much piracy on PC for us to make the game decent on PC"...

Ve3tro4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

Just because they are unknown to you doesn't mean they don't have traffic or a community or a relationship with game publishers.

And they probably received review copies last week as people did in the UK at the Homefront multiplayer event in London.

Drjft4796d ago

Alexa tells me all I need to know.

killajd4796d ago

it seems to me just by searching that this game is downloadable and playable thru a crack thats been released!

lucifon4795d ago

Indeed the embargo is not till next week. I know a few buddies who've managed to get copies in the UK from knowing people who work in retailers so they're certainly out there to obtain in a legit way.

DaTruth4795d ago (Edited 4795d ago )

That's not technically legit... At least not for the retailers!

DEADEND4796d ago

I can't wait to try out the MP and if I like it I'll buy it next month.

mightyboot4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

Just seen the first 10 mins of a playthrough uploaded on youtube and man...its really ***** up...its probably almost as controversial than MW2´s No Russian.

mushroomwig4796d ago

I wouldn't go that far, that mission in MW2 was player controlled and could be avoided, the scene from the bus in Homefront is powerful, but not really controversial since you're not in control.

mightyboot4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

I dunno because the definition of controversy is a matter of opinion so its hard to say if it is or not.

MidnytRain4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

Maybe not as controversial, but in my opinion, it is miles ahead as far as power and feeling. In the first ten minutes

*SPOILERS* (not really)

when that little boy had to watch as his parents were executed by being shot to death against a wall after trying to comfort him was a bit disturbing, yet excellently done all the same. You could hear his cries as the bus just rolls on by...

*/SPOILERS*

That's some intense stuff.

bozebo4795d ago (Edited 4795d ago )

Apart from the fact that nothing in a game/film/book/etc should be controversial at all because it is FICTION.

It's too difficult to feel any emotion towards what is in a game, the only game that I think has done that is MGS4.

Drjft4796d ago

Solid realism isn't or shouldn't be controversial.

The stuff that Homefront depicts is how war/invasions really are. It's not all by the books and legal - it's rough, gritty and inhumane, but that's life.

The scene with the child watching his mother get executed was sad, yes, controversial, no. Go look on Wikipedia, you can see photos of Japanese soldiers beheading Australian Commandos (I'm Australian).

Whilst those pictures aren't in an invasion it's still relative to my point which is the fact that stuff like that is real, but as soon as it's depicted in accurate manners in video-games people weird out - which is stupid.

despair4796d ago

whether its based in realism or not, and whatever you believe war is like is irrelevant. Its all about entertainment, and that's all that matters, if you cannot hold your audience attention then you are doing something wrong, and if it takes shock and awe then that's what it takes.

Oh and fighting and war won't be like you see in any movie, and pictures and videos only tell you so much. I have never been in any situation like that and I hope I never am, but trying to equate real life with something made in a game or film is delusional,.

Remember one is for effect and/or entertainment, the other just is what it is, no editing, no script just is and unless you are there yourself, which is not something to hope for, you cannot tell people what war and invasions are like and neither can I.

mightyboot4796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

"Solid realism isn't or shouldn't be controversial. "

So you mean that a WW2 based videogame with concentration camps with jews dying all over the place shouldn´t be controversial because that´s solid realism and everyone must accept it?

well of course not! that´s why communism and facism are the enemies in videogames/movies instead of being the "good" guys.

But in this case i really dont know if this is really controversial or not since its a mature themed game.

Im predicting a article based around this in the next few hours/days. xD

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4796d ago

Not sure if I should get this or wait til Crysis 2 or brink...

Izanagi-no-Okami4796d ago

I'll be getting this and Crysis 2 after. I don't have any interest on Brink.

HellzAssassin4796d ago

Seriously?!?! No interest on Brink? Have you looked into it? Watched the developer diaries? Honestly, Brink looks like an incredible FPS! Eh, to each their own.

Izanagi-no-Okami4796d ago

Yeah, i won't be getting Brink. It looks like a good game, but i don't feel like i'm going to like it.

antz11044795d ago

No way man, Brink FTW!!

Shackdaddy8364796d ago (Edited 4796d ago )

Imma gonna get all of 'em.

Kos-Mos4796d ago

Story or graphics. Your choice.

CherryLu-Chan4795d ago

Currently I'm zooming towards Crysis. I've become really smitten with the trailers, love the concept and am purely waiting to see if it's any good and which version to get it for.

Homefront I've gone back and forth over. Love the concept, was put off by the alleged '5 hour single player campaign', but am really *really* tempted by. Such a strong story is a huge sway for me.
