Confusion still surrounds UT III release date

CVG reports: In the latest round of release date confusion surrounding Epic's Unreal Tournament III, Midway has said the PS3 version has now slipped to early 2008 - but the developer's informing a Christmas 2007 release could still happen.

Midway has announced a Q1 2008 release for UT III on PS3 in a financial report, but in response Epic's Mark Rein stated that as a public company the publisher felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay.

"Our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007", Rein said in a post on Epic forums, but added, "However, we will only ship it once it's ready and is the best game we can deliver."
Rein went on to explain that UT III on PS3 will now feature the same map set as the PC version. Previously, the console version was to have fewer levels.

Speaking further, he said that PC UT III is "still on track for November", and that there'll be a demo released before the full game ships.

An Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III is expected some time in 2008.

Most disappointing news so far. If it doesn't come out this year that would be a major FTL.

My PC would die at the mention of UT3.

Look on the bright side. they said that if it does indeed come out later then all the PC maps will be included in the PS3 version. Now I don't know about you but I would say that the extra wait might be worth the extra content. It's nice to see them doing their best to get us a great game.

i smell BS from epic. before they said that big maps can't run on PS3 tha includes 64 online, cause of performance issues ans stuff. NOW, he says it will include same maps as PC. I am now confused!!!!!!!!!!
I am not buying UT3 scr3w it. I will getting SOCOM confrontation though.

Nuclearwinter6084d ago

I bet the "resources" they said they didn't have to put those maps in was time.

Kleptic6084d ago

It would be pointless for 64 player maps if the PS3 version doesn't support 64 players...

what is the max players online? 24?...or is that Haze?...I can't remember, but I don't think it was 64...

still a first day purchase for me...but I will be pretty bummed about it if I don't get to play any of it over holiday break...already had several parties planned around it (the Thanksgiving one is already axed, have to play Haze or COD4 instead i guess)

lol Gears 2 FTW. Oh yah I forgot this game is coming out on 360 too. Nice "timed" exclusive sony.

Edwin19896084d ago

I bet it's being released in 2008...

Tech Focus - Motion Blur: Is It Good For Gaming Graphics?

Opinion is divided on this one for sure! Is motion blur good for gaming? Why do developers include it?

TheOptimist2165d ago

I hate any game that has motion blur and the first thing I do is switch off the motion blur in games. It just makes me nauseous.

XentaJones2165d ago

motion blur makes me sick... so its off.

OpenGL2165d ago

I agree with Alex here, many implementations are terrible but when it is done right it improves the experience.

I always turn it off. Along with depth of field.

Those plus vignetting, chromatic aberration, and film grain.

Let’s be Honest, DOOM Looks like the Best First Person Shooter We’ve Seen in Ages

Alex from GamersFTW writes:

“In all seriousness though, I feel like DOOM’s success will be measured by how much the game has to offer. Graphically it’s looking spectacular, and I’m sure the latest multiplayer trailer caught all of our attention. Personally, the game is beginning to remind me of those late nights playing Unreal Tournament 3, which is totally a good thing. This, in addition to the promise of user-generated content, is making DOOM look like the best first-person shooter I’ve seen in ages.”

The campaign looks brilliant, like a true nostalgia trip to the original DOOM titles of old! The multiplayer equally looks like a trip down memory lane to fast-paced and frantic arena games a-la Quake, and honestly the MP REALLY makes me want to the get game at launch to capitalise on the hype. Problem is I'm not overly fussed with multiplayer typically in games, they can get weary after a while, and buying a game solely for its MP is risky - especially on console - as it's heavily dependant on the community!

Rock to my left, hard place to my right..

EDIT: On the MP note, does anyone know if it'll have bots available, similar to Unreal Tournament 3? I still give that a quick play time to time with bots (and all the mad mutators).

I’m exactly the same, usually multiplayer games are of no interest to me. But DOOM has sparked my curiosity, especially as someone who used to enjoy multiplayer first person shooters like Quake/Unreal. Totally understand your concerns about it being heavily dependant on the community, too. Which is just another reason they should include bots, in case the numbers need to be made up. I’m hoping the community will be good, considering the creative freedoms they’re handing over with the SnapMap thing.
