Call of Duty Could See $200 Per User

Activision recently killed off Guitar Hero and more while doubling down on its major successes - Call of Duty and Blizzard titles. This is somewhat alarming since it certainly narrows the company's portfolio, but one analyst sees the big bet on Call of Duty paying off, to the point where revenue per user may double.

Wouldn't surprise me given how crazy the money gets with CoD

JeffGUNZ4803d ago

I doubt a subscription will be put into place. The series is dying for a lot of people. I couldn't wait for black ops and even though I enjoyed it, I got very bored of it quickly. I never thought I would say that, but I have gotten extremely bored and stale with the game. This series has only 1-2 more installments until you see the sales plumit.

itsralf4803d ago (Edited 4803d ago )

MW3 will be the last CoD game to succeed. Then I expect Battlefield 3 or *possibly* Counter-Strike 2 to be the next king of the FPS genre.

Convas4803d ago (Edited 4803d ago )

"This series has only 1-2 more installments until you see the sales plumit."

1-2 more? LOL, I think the sales'll plummet THIS year, depending on how and if Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward/Raven can get Modern Warfare 3 or whatever the hell they are trying to throw together and/or work on, done.

This year is just jam-packed with quality titles, and I think developer's are getting bolder. 2009 and 2010's Dev retreat in the face of an oncoming COD may not happen this year.

Pixelated_Army4803d ago

"could double from the current $100 to $200"

$100... who the hell is spending that much on COD?

jetlian4802d ago

forget the 150 ce version and treyarch does like 3 map packs per game.

Vherostar4802d ago

you doubt a sub will be put in place?? you mean you hope.. This is activision and they said they are thinking about it already. There will no doubt be a sub system on one of the games in the future and people will stupidly pay it I mean if people are stupid enough to pay £40 a year for Xbox live just to play online then they will do for COD too.

sikbeta4802d ago

This is getting ridiculous, I don't get why people love so much teh CODz, but to spend $200 for that, it's like too damn Much!!!

KillerBBs4801d ago

65 for the game + 15$ for subsequent map packs = at least 80$....add another map pack and youre at 100$

fr0sty4802d ago

COD is going to crash... every king of the hill falls. Even halo is failing, which is why Bungie (smartly) gave it up. All popular franchises fall eventually. Even Final Fantasy.

hiredhelp4802d ago

Has anyone told them that more more people are saying no to cod now being tempted by newer games like bf3.

and does there hate letters they get not ring a bell.

well lets hope if the ditching of guitar hero that money will be spent on a new engine for all of you cod freaks. added extra £% o $5 last 2 years. dont make me laugh

A good laid out subscription service, probably would work with the COD community.

If Activision will try it, and it works, probably others will consider the possibility too.

ddurand14803d ago

if they do it right, it could be a bargain to gamers who buy the game new.

any type of fee would be to increase profits and get their money from the used game buyer anyway.

make the game worth buying new and people will.

xVeZx4802d ago

its not going to work....too many casuals play call of duty they will see the subscription, be like wtf and walk away

AntiHeroComplex4803d ago

They can easily do good if they stop screwing around and start putting in effort again. I got blops and traded it in b/c it sucked... But id give it another chance eventually...
But id get BF3 before another call of duty thats for sure.

strawberry94803d ago

call of duty has always sucked ass. Battlefield has always been better, and finally battlefield 3 is starting to get the attention it deserves.

christheredhead4803d ago

isnt activision opening a studio dedicated to only making dlc map packs? i thought i read something like that, could be wrong. yah but i mean first day buyers of the game and dlc pay 100 now, so double or triple the amount of map packs for sale and thats a fair guarantee of securing close to 200 dollars per game.

helrazor3434803d ago

Well it makes sense to them to make dlc as they're just in it for the money, but I don't get much dlc (but I understand I'm in the minority on this one). So, if I perceive that the game isn't good enough out of the box, and provides an experience that can stand on its own, then it's a pass for me.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

melons22d ago

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac22d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-2320d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher36d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris36d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera35d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii35d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts35d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX35d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

Profchaos36d ago

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Cheech just looks so wrong in the picture.

Profchaos36d ago

Why just why. cod up in smoke

anast36d ago

They charge too much for a game that is kitsch.

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
