TheAppera - Side Scrolling shooters are nothing new to the App Store, but how many times have you wished you could control a flying hamster instead of the hi-tech spaceship? Well, with The Game Atelier’s latest game, Flying Hamster, now you can.
indiePub has published its weekly update of new and notable indie games on the Playstation Store Indie Games Channel.
Best bets this week include: Cloudberry Kingdom, a 2D platformer with a random level generator; Draw Slasher, where you use your fingers to save a ninja’s family; Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery, a creative 3D puzzler, PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD, a tower defense game; and Puzzle by Nikoli V Slitherlink, which features 50 Slitherlink puzzles to play.
GameZebo - Parodying a game genre is nothing new. However, there are an awful lot of bad parodies out there – particularly those that try too hard. One of the best examples of a good parody was Parodius, a parody of a seminal space shooter called Gradius (parody + Gradius = Parodius). And while Flying Hamster isn’t built directly on the backs of other games, it does beautifully parody Japanese shoot-em-ups. It also happens to be a blast to play.
STP - Flying Hamster has a lot going for it, but the lack of a level select function and the high price keep it just short of Must Have status.
