Slightly Mad: Shift 2 is "Real Racing"

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Slightly Mad's Andy Tudor shared his thoughts about the upcoming Shift 2 and the whole racing sim genre.

No one else is hyping up the game other than the developers them selves.

Trevonn4826d ago

simple as that peepz this game cant hold a candle to gt5

Ranshak4826d ago

Looks just like Shift 1 to me lol.

Knushwood Butt4826d ago

Too true.

They clearly don't know how to hype it either. One minute they say it isn't a boring sim like GT5, the next they say it is real racing. The two contradict one another.

Also, if it is real racing, why does the screen turn black and white whenever you hit anything? Is that real racing??

They should just shut up and let the game do its thing. It looks good visually. The driving? Who knows. I may pick it up when the budget release comes out.

TROLOLOLOL4826d ago

sometimes that can be good. otherwise you get hype like halo and killzone then get let down abit. some of the best games that come out lately are the ones i thought were gonna be shit but actually pretty dam good

velocitygamer4826d ago

Yes, but FANS hype the game up. The developers of this game seem a little too confident. I don't expect this to be shit or anything, the camera work is amazing. It's just that the developers are trash talking on games like GT5 and Forza 3.

Miths4826d ago

Yep, they do come off as rather arrogant and full of themselves in many interviews and articles.
I just hope the game can live up to all the self praise, because I'm actually looking forward to it.
Shift 1 was an uneven and flawed game, but hotlapping in a McLaren F1 or a Zonda F with a Logitech G25 wheel was a blast.

mightyboot4826d ago (Edited 4826d ago )

Im pretty sure that many people will skip this one and wait for Hot Pursuit 2 instead.

but me i just gave up on the series.

Miths4826d ago

Aside from featuring fast cars, Shift and Hot Pursuit are barely comparable.
The recent Hot Pursuit was a full on arcade racer (but a fun one at that), while Shift falls roughly within the same group of "semi-sims" as Gran Turismo and Forza. At least if you play it with a force feedback wheel rather than a gamepad.

jammydude4826d ago

Gran turismo is in a different category of racing game in comparison to Shift and Hot Pursuit. Forza less so due to the permanent driving aids but still worlds away from the full on arcade nature of shift and forza

Croash4826d ago (Edited 4826d ago )

Keep in mind that Criterion Games might be developing a new Burnout game right now, a sequel to NFS Hot Pursuit could still come later though.

If Shift 2 gets great review scores, people would probably be more interested in it.
I know that Shift wasn't acclaimed universally, but it had a great potential and still was a good game.

However Slightly Mad Studios must prove that Shift 2 : Unleashed is worthy of being called a "sequel", meaning it has to show improvements when compared to the original, and of course they must show they have acknowledged the players' feedback.

And right now, it looks good. I guess they'll release a demo soon enough, just like they did for Shift.

Edit: As Miths said, you can't compare Shift and Hot Pursuit. Hell, Shift wasn't comparable to any of the older Need for Speed games. So while it belongs to the series (well, slightly less since it has abandoned the name "Need for Speed"), it isn't "the same thing over and over again".
You mustn't think of Need for Speed as one particular gaming experience, almost every new iteration was different from the previous game.

There are no "thoughtful" ads in video games, EA

There are no thoughtful ads in Video Games, EA. Leave them be.

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai5d ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga5d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

MrBaskerville3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole2d ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville2d ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens525d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_5d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville2d ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM5d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka4d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_5d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.

Well, anything to make those shareholders happy, I guess. They're all that matters in this industry nowadays.

EA stocks haven't been profitable in over 5yrs. They better hope Take-two don't get the FIFA license lol.
