Killzone 2 outsold Killzone 3 at launch

Killzone 3's first week sales in the UK failed to better those of Killzone 2, GfK ChartTrack reports.

While Killzone 3 is the 14th fastest selling Sony title in terms of week one sales, Killzone 2 (released two years ago), is the company's 5th fastest selling title and remains the series' number one in terms of week 1 sell-through.

In EU, all games come out on FRIDAYS, that's how it's been since FOREVER, meaning KZ2 didn't have a full week either.

sorry bud. i got killzone 3 day one and i can really say killzone 2 was a better game. yes the controls were better in 3 but the game sucked a lot. guerrilla's on rail shooting sequences in killzone 3 were really bad. nothing else to say, but i hope socom 4 beta is a lot better.

Well....I have played K3 and I have K2. I'm not getting K3 because...I feel it is too much like Cod. I find myself running around killing whoever while going in the general direction of the objective. No strategy or teamwork. That's how I feel anyway. Due to less life probably.

So far I've love what I've played, I just got up to the later demo part of frozen shores. The jungle section was awesome and I loved how it looked.

I have to say I think it was the demo that put me off, It was all too industrial all over again and being stuck on rails for the first few mins really didnt help. The jungle would have tempted me more for the demo.

That said though in the time I spent on the demo it looked to me as if the textures had been upped a bit but animations not really changed at all. Im an animations person really and KZ2 just felt better to me

All I can say is that I'm still playing KZ2 and am in no rush to buy KZ3. KZ3 has so far failed to pull me away from my MP shooter of choice -- Warhawk. So what about those who favour MW2, BC2,Halo Reach, or whatever other game they are playing mostly?

Prediction: KZ3 won't sell as many as KZ2.

The Killzone world needs a total makeover and reworking by new developers. You've done a good job GG, but there are others that will be able to do better.

You're really kidding yourself if you don't think Naughty Dog(Jax/Uncharted) or Santa Monica Studios(God of War/Warhawk) or Incognito(Twisted Metal/Warhawk) or Sucker Punch(Sly Cooper/Infamous) could have done a better job with the Killzone franchise than GG.

KZ1 would have been a totally different and better game than what GG produced had Santa Monica Studios made it...as they were proven developers who knew how to use the Ps2 to its fullest potential and were masters with SP.

Killzone 2 was a long long wait, KZ3 came out pretty quickly in comparison and if you're a big PS3 gamer you have TOO many choices.

I myself have to ask myself if I need Socom IV or even Motorstorm. They look incredible, but AS incredible as Uncharted 3 and inFamous 2? I dunno.

Insecure console owners cannot handle the fact that PS3 is a powerhouse. Yes, I respect the capabilities of 360, Wii but come on, nitpicking is so lame when it's clear to see K3 is an amazing piece of software.

I implore every PS3 owner to jump on the K3 multiplayer and make it a success. The alternatives are COD and B2. Although B2 is amazing. Support Sony exclusives, you complained there were no games at launch and suring the early years, now there are too many amazing games people complain...Tssk!

Ouch. I understand that 3 days is still needed to make a fair judgment but we're also talking about a bigger ps3 install base compared to when KZ2 came out. Looks like the killzone franchise failed to gather a huge fanbase. I said it many times before and I'll say it again.... Killzone is a small franchise and not a heavy hitter. It sits comfortably with the already packed genre of rated 8 shooters.

GG made another solid ass shooter thats selling well enough for them to recoup easily. I live in Los Angeles and went into a Gamestop to buy the Sharp Shooter and the clerk informed me that that ALONE was sold out at all the LA Gamestops and surrounding areas.

This by no means indicate that KZ3 is outpacing KZ2 sales wise but it does mean the game is in high enough demand that retailers arent able to keep up with a peripheral thats made to broaden the KZ3 experience.

Fanboyism and garbage game journalism are what have driven me away from this site. Developers put a great deal of their lives into these games and publishers dump loads of financial resources into studios in hopes of making games we love.

These days it seems like most people love hating on games more than they love gaming. The Gaming media seems hellbent on destroying and nit-picking on ip's to the point that I'm starting to think they hate games, their jobs but love revenue from countless hits from the blind herd of Sheep who believe "MY CONSOLE IS THE BEST!"

There is no fucking best console. There is a console thats best FOR YOU, and what you love, someone else hates. Its all subjective. BELIEVE. I got tired of being a PS3 fanboy and just decided to be a GameFan. Its so much easier. I play all my shit(PSWii60) when time permits.

And your right about the information that sales data provides but here's what, It isn't a gaming journalist place to play the role of a sales and marketing person or a financial director for a company that they don't work. Any person with half a brain would know that it's not the initial sales numbers that would dictate the possibility of a sequel but the FINAL figures that are a deciding factor. Yeah you're absolutely right, i'm very insecure about owning a PS3 because

- PS3 has no exclusives, and has to rely on 3rd party support to stay in the game.

- PS3 users are being pushed into the motion control games because Sony see that as the PS3's future and care little for hardcore players.

- PS3 needs a bigger storage medium because developers can't fit games on on disc.

- PS3 has had the worst failure rate in a console in the history of consoles

- PS3 owners only have 2 exclusive games that anyone actually cares about (Halo,Gears).
